For the past few years I have been hearing my friends dont go back to hometown for reunion but rather, tour some other countries like Japan China etc

Hey guys, if I need to rent a car in Thailand (cheaper than using grab daily), do they accept JPJ Digital License or go get a physical copy?

PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has overturned the High Court’s award of RM1.1 million in damages to a woman who sued a private hospital and its orthopaedic surgeon over a hand surgery meant to correct carpal tunnel syndrome eight years ago.
Justice Choo Kah Sing said the trial judge had failed to properly evaluate the factual events and expert testimony, and ought to have concluded that the surgeon was not negligent in the circumstances of the case.

“Given its findings in respect of the surgeon, we also set aside the judgment entered against Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd,” Choo said when announcing the court’s unanimous decision.

The three-member panel was chaired by Justice Supang Lian, and also comprised Justice Alwi Abdul Wahab.

The court also ordered the plaintiff, Nurul Iman Abu Mansor, to pay RM100,000 in costs to the surgeon and RM50,000 to the hospital.

The hospital’s appeal against the High Court’s dismissal of its indemnity claim against the surgeon was consequently dismissed, with costs of RM30,000 awarded to the surgeon.

In setting aside the High Court’s findings, the Court of Appeal said the trial judge’s treatment of the evidence was inadequate, leading to errors in the judgment.

Lawyers Manmohan Singh Dhillon, Desmond Mun and Lee Xin Yu appeared for Nurul Iman.

Counsel Fazleeza Azli represented Gleneagles Hospital while Raja Eileen Soraya Raja Aman, Sathiesh K Purushothaman, Jeevan Raj and Amanda Sena acted for the surgeon.

Two years ago, the High Court ruled that Nurul Iman, aged 17 at the time of the operation, had proven on a balance of probabilities that the surgeon was negligent in performing the operation.

The High Court found that following the 2018 procedure, Nurul Iman struggled with tasks requiring the use of her right hand and bimanual functions, and required assistance in her daily living activities.

In its judgment, the High Court also held that the hospital owed Nurul Iman a non‑delegable duty of care, since she was admitted as a patient.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — The government has allocated a 40 per cent increase in doctors’ and dentists’ on-call allowance (ETAP) in Budget 2026, estimated to cost an additional RM120 million a year.

During his Budget speech, Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the prime minister, told Parliament that the ETAP increase for medical and dental officers already took effect last October 1, even though Parliament has yet to pass the federal budget.

“Doctors can claim from last October 1. This rarely happens when we table budgets, but we want to give space to doctors who are working hard,” said Anwar when tabling Budget 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat, noting that ETAP hasn’t been revised since 2011.

Medical officers get RM220 per shift for weekend active calls. A 40 per cent raise is equivalent to RM88, translating to a new ETAP rate of RM308.

This means that medical officers’ on-call allowance rate of RM9.16 per hour has been raised to RM12.83 per hour for a 24-hour shift, falling short of doctors’ groups demand of an RM25 hourly rate.

Specialist doctors’ on-call allowance will be raised by RM100 (40 per cent) from RM250 to RM350 per shift for weekend active calls.

Even though the consultation fees of doctors in the private sector have nothing to do with government budgets, Anwar took the opportunity to announce a new RM80 ceiling fee for general practitioners (GPs), but maintained the floor GP consultation fee at RM10.

For more than three decades, GPs’ consultation fees had stagnated at RM10 to RM35.

Doctors’ groups previously suggested raising GPs’ consultation fees to RM50 to RM80.

The stall is run by Mohamad Ikhmal Nur Hakim Mohamad Yusof, 30, and his wife, Nurul Al Fatonah Awang, 30. Ikhmal said the idea began when his wife was craving king crab, a delicacy usually found only in upscale restaurants.

"To fulfil her wish, I bought some. Then my wife suggested selling them at an affordable price so more people could enjoy seafood that usually costs hundreds of ringgit," he said.

For Nurul, the key to their success lies in both price and presentation

Unlike raw seafood, their crabs are served pre-cooked with two homemade sauces — chilli and buttermilk — making them ready to enjoy on the spot.

"People prefer ready-to-eat seafood. That's why our crabs, served hot with sauce, are always in such high demand," she said.

Among their loyal customers is Azlina Alawi, 42, who travelled from Ipoh, Perak, just to buy crabs and bring it home to her family in Pengkalan Kubor.

"I've had king crab before, but I wanted my parents to try it too. Yesterday, I couldn't get any because they sold out, so I came again today.

"The price is very reasonable compared to what I usually pay, and it gives more people the chance to enjoy king crab," she said
