The best part? The Emperor's (aka Darth Sidious) first name is Sheev.

SHEEV.

Like, a weaker, more poorly-spelled version of Steve, basically. The most powerful, evil dude in the universe doesn't even have the dignity of being named "Steve." Can you imagine how non-threatening all instances of the Emperor's name would sound if they said "Sheev" instead of "the Emperor"? Well, you don't have to, 'cuz we did it for ya.

Source:
http://www.dorkly.com/post/69711/the-emper...-his-first-name

^go there for the images

Lun-class ekranoplan

Here's an old Soviet design, which further convinces me of the fact that Soviet engineers were batsh*t crazy.

QUOTE

The Lun was powered with eight Kuznetsov NK-87 turbofans, mounted on forward canards, each producing 127.4 kN (28,600 lbf) of thrust. It had a flying boat hull with a large deflecting plate at the bottom to provide a "step" for takeoff.

Equipped for anti-surface warfare, it carried the P-270 Moskit (Mosquito) guided missile. Six missile launchers were mounted in pairs on the dorsal surface of its fuselage with advanced tracking systems mounted in its nose and tail.
The only model of this class ever built, the MD-160, entered service with the Black Sea Fleet in 1987. It was retired in the late 1990s and is now sitting unused at a naval station in Kaspiysk. The Russian Defense Ministry has no plans to revive the project.[1]

Another version of Lun was planned for use as a mobile field hospital for rapid deployment to any ocean or coastal location. It was named the Spasatel ("Rescuer"). Work was about 90% done, when the military funding ended, and it was never completed.

Source: Wikipedia

Basically, TLDR version: A flying ship that fires missiles with 8 turbofans in front.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

QUOTE

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (formerly The EAA Annual Convention and Fly-In) is an annual gathering of aviation enthusiasts held each summer at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, United States. The airshow is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), an international organization based in Oshkosh, and is the largest of its kind in the U.S. The show lasts a week, usually beginning on the last Monday in July. During the gathering, the airport's control tower is the busiest in the world

Source: Wikipedia

Website

Any other aviation enthusiasts here?
Misinformation about MH370

Hey all, I'm not one to open topics, but there's a bit of misinformation that I'd like to bring forward regarding the tragedy that's unfolding in front of us about MH370. Namely, all the conspiracy theories and all that have popped up on youtube and facebook.

Well, my main issue is with a video posted on youtube, with some guy saying that FlightRadar24 changed the flight path. As a couple of other forummers here have noticed as well, from what I could tell (namely pulautikus), the uploader deliberately switched the aircraft he showed on his video to further his 'theory'.

MH370 involved in the incident is 9M-MRO. That guy posted a recording of 9M-MRQ, which are two different aircraft.

I won't link the video, as I don't want to accidentally perpetuate misinformation. But I'm sure many of you have seen the video around.

Just my rant and two cents. I just don't think the misinformation going around is helpful to anyone at all.

*Edit note: I know that a lot of forummers such as pulautikus have also noticed the discrepancies about the registration ID's, and have been pointing it out as well. On behalf of all the level headed people of the world, I'd like to thank all those who have been doing so.

Well, the reason I started this topic is I want to compile opinions about the notebook skins since there's no topic for them. Anyone has any experiences with skins you want to share, like whether it leaves marks on your notebook when removed, or any recommendations?

As a student, how much performance do we need?

I know I'm extremely tempted to go out and buy the most powerful laptop out there in the market (if I ever get the money, that is), but I had to ask myself, how much performance do we actually need from a laptop? I would definitely do some gaming (HL2, CS, possibly L4D and RA3) on the laptop, but how much of a laptop's performance do we actually need as a student? I plan to do engineering, and was also wondering whether do we need to use the laptop for actually calculating physics stuff, etc, etc, or do we merely need the laptop for completing assignments (any engineering student here?).

I just want to hear anyone's thoughts on the matter.
