TARC, How to get the best out of there

Lets start with some facts, TARC is situated at setapak or i will call it the MCA college. It is quite similiar with Chung Hwa Independent School in which the student populations mostly constitute of chinese. In my three and half years studies there i meet only one Malay students and quite a number of Indian student. There is one fact that is well establish and well known, if you can survive in TARC, you are pretty much a very good worker and student and of course a human.

As a "graduate" with BSc from SAS i am here to give a no nonsense note about TARC college. If you are someone that is smart in study and is determine to study what you indeed to study, you can study A-Level in TARC and then score 4flat (All A) in either the Science or Art/Commerce stream then apply enter NUS. This is the most ideal progression route for capable student and those who had determined what you want to study. Getting AAA in A-Lvl isn't that hard.

However, you can also choose to study Form 6 in TARC which in my opinion isn't not that bad either. Compare to normal Form 6 in government school, you will have the chance to go to class a little bit latter, break away from the traditional high school dress and knew a lot more friends there. If you are someone which had really determine to study SCIENCE in your life, be it Chemistry, Biology or Engineering i would recommend you all either take this two option A-Lvl or Form 6.

Now i will start to talk about the other courses in TARC, focus will be on Accounting, Chemistry and Biology and Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering offered by TARC. All this while TARC is super famous for accounting, notwithstanding i have read that 70% of chartered accountant in Malaysia hail from TARC.The good thing about studying in TARC compared to Sunway UC or others accountant school in Msia is that TARC have cheaper fees, they really teach from ZERO, and when you are out from TARC most likely you will have a girlfriend

According to my friend whom had did an intern at KPMG and studied Actuarial in LSE, TARC accounting student most likely when they grad, directly KPMG will hired them. Here we really can see the market for Accounting student. By the way Accounting course is very very very establish in KTAR and it the very first course accredited by MQA, so don't worry about that paper. So the decision is, if you are SPM leaver and have make up your mind in doing Accountancy course, KTAR might suit you, if you are rich then you have a dual option KTAR or Sunway UC.

Now to Mechanical Course, I will comment only on the Maths standard of Mechanical Course, because that is the only subject that i can do for the entire six semester in diploma If you got very good basic in Maths and excellent standard in Additional Maths, i can assure you there won't be any problem in Mechanical Engineering Maths if anyone out there will want to learn Engineering Maths alone i can recommend a book by K.A.Stroud name Engineering Maths if i am not wrong it is green in colour, also is a book that teach you from the basic till the expert level

If you are from Chung Hwa Inde there is absolutely no worries for you except for matrices and vector, that would be only the problem i think. If you were to progress from Diploma to Advanced Diploma in Mechanical E, upon grad you will get a AdvDip cert, to obtain your degree you NEED to go either LJMU or SHU (UK) to get your honours degree there in three months time. In my opinion, the teaching and learning been done in KTAR will eventually guarantee at least a 2:2 ( Lower second class honours ) for you or CGPA aggregrate 3.0

This is my personal opinion, if you are someone whom wanted to be an ENGINEER, good luck my friend, you will get you professional license longer then me , taking words from another friend of mine whom work in YTL. The youngest employee in his department is 28 also hails from KTAR , the bad news is he works in smaller company before progressing to YTL. But the good news is. the senior engineer in his department also hails from KTAR

So here i would comment, IS not a wrong to grad from KTAR with mechanical E but you will have a longer route to take. As opposed to local U engineering student, when you grad you are REGISTERED under the Malaysia Engineering Board as a "Engineer" , but when you grad from KTAR with AdvDip you are not an Engineer but you also can be consider as an Engineer. The problem here lies on the fact KTAR doesn't offer degree and have to twin with UK uni to confer their student for the Degree Cert, if you didn't go you have a trouble lying ahead of you, but if you go you would had to fork out 35K RM

So my advice here, if you are the macho guys that wanted to be an engineer, more safer route, A-Lvl or STPM then enter local U, or A-Lvl then apply NUS or NTU. If you have the thinking that is hard to get the subject you desired in local U, YES is true but don't block your option NUS or NTU will take your STPM result with the bar your CGPA must be 3.75 or higher. If any how you think you are not that good in study i will personally call you study A-Lvl as it is much easier then STPM.

Now lets venture to the Chemistry and Biology course offer in KTAR. If you are someone whom wanted to be a pharmacist, doctor, or dentistry this is NOT a course to be taken by you. I will personally advice you to take STPM or A-Lvl to target the three medical courses. If you are not rich and have really make the decision to strive for the three courses, good luck you will endure the most momentous life as a medical student, study good and remember to serve people later.

The diploma of Chem and Bio is at the same level as STPM, not i am saying STPM not A-Lvl. In malaysia the tertiary rank is as like this UEC>STPM>A-Lvl. If you can get BBB in UEC i think it is sufficient to apply in NUS pharmacy course correct me if i am wrong, and UEC standard is non human , STPM would not be that bad, the wrong thing about STPM is the chemistry subject. Personally i think it is not that hard, but you take one and a half year to study physical chemistry, three months for organic chemistry and three weeks for inorganic chemistry, you are finding your own hell If you ask me i would say organic is the most hard to study among the three and you use three months to study in STPM, i hail you GOD, is not your mistake for any six former who read this, blame the government curriculum.

In KTAR, getting a 3.5 in Dip Chem and Bio is consider normal and getting a 3.7 above is consider elite. The problem doesn't lies on Dip but it lies on the Adv Dip. SAS who govern this course Chem and Bio is a bit special, upon grad you will be confer with two cert one in which is AdvDip by KTAR and another one is Bsc by Campbell University. Simply means for EVERY SUBJECT you take in one semester, you will have to stay back from 0900 to 1600 to conquer two paper, 09-11 BSc ( i call it white paper) 14-16 ( i call it yellow paper). IF you can make it alive from this, i can assure you there is not problem in your life later.

I have had not access to UTAR Bsc Chem or UM Bsc Chem exam paper, so here i can't make a comparison. Maybe i didn't learn everything but what i learn in 4 semester is HELL a lot

My personal advice, if you are going to be a chemist go study in UM or UTAR, the idea behind is simple, when you grad from KTAR you are not a licensed chemist, only a two years work experience will make you one, whereas in local U upon grad you are registered as a Chemist "correct me if i am wrong". If you are a girl that have interest in Biology, i would recommend you study more professional course rather than Bsc in Biology. Upon grad with BSc from KTAR/Campbell Uni, you will end up occasionally in this three field LECTURER, SALES MEDICAL PRODUCT, RESEARCHER. Compare to Acc or Engineering i see Chem and Bio future is very bleak

If you have make up your mind to study science PLEASE make a decision to study in more professional course such as Dietitian/Nutrition, or the three medical courses. This will ensure you have a better future then a chemist or a biologist researcher. One more thing, if you want to take master after grad from KTAR Chem and Bio, i can assure you, the chance to do it in Msial is low very very low, your only hope is like NUS or NTU accepting you. If your CGPA is high you might get a chance but what if it is low? You are force to work in 21, is again a very very long route. I personally doesn't believe 21 is a time to go out work maybe 23, 21 is too young, brain is not yet mature enough.

So, for those who had enter KTAR already in Chem and Bio, i wish you good luck you will have the most challenging 3.5 years there, if you fail nvm personally i also think it is hard but if you still have a chance to choose and determine to study what you wanted to i personally advice A-Lvl or STPM. My personal advice to KTAR, just keep the Pre-U studies and SBS, others school can be closed down to earth.

Personal advice here, when you are studying do enjoy the moments you are with your friend, flirt with girls or at best find a girlfriend. Tell yourself to leave something memorable in KTAR or any insitute you are studying, because latter in your life you will think back one thing.........When you are younger you should commit yourself to do more things and do more mistake, thats how you will learn and growth. Lecture won't teach you this, i am here to tell you what i learn from my life experience

Finally, i will like to declare something, this is an article written solely by Seanlara and i am not pay by anyone to write this and i hope KTAR won't sue me LOL.

***NOTE: All course is accredited now, but by means of all the graduates this year how many will enter local Uni to study degree or master?
A lecturer of mine told me before UM do accept chem and bio student with one condition your cgpa must be 3.75 or above , to hit that
you must be a genius, sadly not me. Partial result list is out i got three friends got 3.9 in both advance and degree paper.
Lets what future holds for us
