This morning when I play my laptop (Alienware MX18) the fan was at full speed. So I shut down again & switch it on again. After like 3 minutes- The Fan is set to full max speed. So I restart again & the fan is at full speed again(Laptop is not even hot)

but after like 6 hrs I start it again(This time I just use battery)- It seems OK?

I just want to know What triggers the fan at full speed even though the laptop is not hot. I was just browsing & do normal things.

However, the officer was not able to comment further on the reasoning behind the policy.

Chua said that during negotiations with MoHA, they were not able give him a reason as well.

He said he also asked them why orchestras were able to get the approval but the MoHA representatives were not able to provide him with a response.

Costing around $20,000 to plan, he said that he only managed to break even with the revenue he received from ticket sales.

On their Facebook page, MagicLee Entertainment said that they will refund everyone who had already purchased the tickets on January 5, 2015, the earliest.

He said he was “disappointed” that the performance was cancelled, having already put a year’s worth of effort into planning for the event.

The Brunei Times

Seriously- I don't know who is this artist but I find it funny of not allowing any foreign artist to perform in Brunei.

The court also ordered his deportation after his jail term.

The culprit was caught red-handed at Duty Free at the airport when he tried to buy expensive watches worth more than QR180,000 through forged cards.

A local bank raised an alert about a suspected credit card transaction. Following the tip-off, police rushed to the site and caught him.

The Malaysian had bought three watches of Rolex company valued at QR182,875 at Duty Free, Al Raya reports.

During his stay in Qatar, the convict made several purchases, including expensive watches and pens and paid his hotel bills through forged cards.

He bought two watches worth QR3,800 and pens worth QR1,000 from the hotel he stayed, and paid hotel bill QR850 for one day.

The convict admitted to using 20 forged cards but only three were accepted.

Justifying his fraud, he said he was a victim of a gang operating in Malaysia.

“I have financial problems and huge bank loans. They promised me to help repay the loans if I went abroad to purchase expensive watches of only Rolex company and they gave me three months,” he said.

He also admitted that before landing in Doha, he had visited for several countries, including Malta and Japan, but their foolproof systems did not accept forged cards.

The Peninsula

Wearing indecent clothing is crime under Syariah

QUOTE

WEARING indecent clothing is a crime under the Syariah Penal Code Order that will soon be enforced in the Sultanate.

Speaking during a briefing on the new law at the BRIDEX Hall, a senior Syariah legal officer of the Islamic Legal Unit at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, yesterday said Muslims and non-Muslims can be punished for donning indecent clothing in public.

Hj Hardifadhillah Hj Mohd Salleh, in response to a question raised by a participant, explained that wearing indecent clothing is an offence under Section 197 of the Syariah Penal Code Order.

The section, titled “Indecent Behaviour”, states that any person who commits an act of indecent behaviour in a public place is guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both.

An act is deemed indecent if it tarnishes the image of Islam, corrupts moral standards, causes negative influence or upsets eyewitnesses.

Anyone who organises, persuades or encourages others to commit any act of indecent behaviour is also guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $8,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both.

There is no specific provision outlined in the new law, but Hj Hardifadhillah reiterated that offenders can be charged with wearing indecent clothing under Section 197.

Taking into account Brunei’s mainstream culture, the senior Syariah legal officer pointed out that it has become commonplace for people to dress in revealing clothing including shorts, commenting that such behaviour is seldom reprimanded.

In order to avoid a public outcry, he explained that the relevant authorities will implement the Syariah Penal Code Order gradually and with wisdom.

“Just imagine, all this while, nobody cared about (wearing indecent clothing). So if we were to introduce these changes drastically, it could backfire,” said Hj Hardifadhillah, adding that their focus is on raising awareness of the new law.

He said that while interpretation of indecent clothing is subjective, enforcement agencies will define what is tolerable and what is not under the “Indecent Behaviour” section.

“If the person is wearing clothing that is too offensive or revealing, then the enforcement agencies should take action or at least advise the offender... But we will implement this provision with wisdom, so people won’t be shocked and angered,” he said.

The Syariah Penal Code Order will come into force in April, six months after the phased introduction was approved in October 2013.

The Brunei Times

http://www.bt.com.bn/frontpage-news-nation...der-syariah-law

They say its ok now they say this?

Click the link and read those comments.

Brunei Karaoke box No More

http://www.brudirect.com/national/national...e-boxes-no-more

QUOTE

Bandar Seri Begawan: Religious authority in the Sultanate has stepped up its effort in mitigating activities that are perceived as prelude to immorality and social ills. The closing down of karaoke boxes (K-boxes) marks another new turn for this country in a bid to fulfill its status as Zikir Nation.

Such was the statement made by Adi Syohreni Abd Hadi, the Head of Legal Enforcement. The closure is an effort to bring the Sultanate closer to its spiritual objective, which is to achieve ‘Baldatun thayyibatun wa rabbun ghafur’ or peaceful and prosperous nation that is blessed by Allah the Almighty.

The directive to close down K-Boxes has been enforced since 2012 and it involves discussion between various ministries and stakeholders. K-Boxes are popular among youth and teenagers alike. As such, many things can occur inside the booths when male and female are together in such a close proximity which sometimes concluded with “cases of abandoned babies” said Adi Syohreni.

Profit loss is expected on those business premises but owners are obliged to abide by the government’s law and order.

The move has received mixed response from many locals, with young people being the most vocal, citing that K-Boxes are one of few places where they can spend time with friends and release daily stresses since the Sultanate is not known to have any other potential attractions. Others applauded the action and agreed with the closure. ©BRUDIRECT.COM

http://bt.com.bn/frontpage-news-national/2...cades-shut-down

QUOTE

THE Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department has ordered the closure of all karaoke boxes (k-boxes) at family arcades in shopping malls.

The department issued the directive earlier this month, but two arcade operators said they have sent an appeal to the authorities.

When The Brunei Times checked the k-boxes at four arcades in commercial areas, operators had placed barriers such as stacked chairs, or a ladder to inform the public the k-boxes at their outlets are closed.

[Related story: Move aimed at curbing social ills, says Municipal Department]

Members of the public were visibly perplexed when they saw all the machines in the booths had been switched off, and were told that the k-boxes were closed.

K-boxes are a row of booths with a karaoke machine and can accommodate one to three persons at one time.

A manager at a family arcade at The Mall said k-boxes were popular among Bruneians who sing to unwind after a hectic day at work with family and friends.

“We have all types of customers coming just to sing in k-boxes. Some came with family members, others with friends and a few customers are husband and wife,” said the manager, who declined to be named.

The manager added that due to their popularity, the management last year decided to upgrade all karaoke machines to updated versions, and improved the interior of the boxes.

One of the important features that they improved was to install larger glass windows to ensure there would be no hanky-panky in each box.

“Because the majority of our customers are youth, our staff do regular checks by monitoring the booths to ensure they are only there to sing, socialise with each other and not doing any immoral acts,” said the manager.

The manager added that they came up with their own initiative last month by not allowing males and females to be in the same box. They also checked that couples who wanted to use k-box were married by asking for their marriage licences.

“Unless they are husband and wife or family members, then they are not allowed to be in one room together. It is our way to be Syariah-compliant but at the same time not stopping people to sing in the k-box,” said the manager.

According to the manager, they were shocked when they received the directive to close all their k-boxes especially when their business (arcade) licence is valid until 2018.

“Apart from the licence, we also need to pay $100 tax for each game and k-box in our arcade. For a 20 k-boxes at one outlet, it means we paid $2,000 annually for the tax for one outlet,” said the manager.

The manager added that if were to dismantle the k-boxes permanently, they have to find other games to fill the space.

“The closure does affect our revenues as they are very popular. We may have to resort to a retrenchment as we are not making enough money,” said the manager.

A manager at another arcade said they were shocked when two officers from the BSB Municipal Department visited their outlet two weeks ago and ordered them to close the k-boxes immediately.

“There were people singing in the boxes and they were told to stop. We were told to reimburse the money paid to the customers to sing in the boxes,” said the manager.

The manager said they were kept in the dark of such a ruling, but complied nonetheless. Now the arcade wants to appeal to the Municipal Department to give them a grace period for at least two weeks, so that they can dismantle the boxes properly.

The karaoke machines are expensive, and they are still unsure what to do with the machines, the manager added.

“For the space, we will have to find other new games that are suitable for this family-oriented arcade,” said the manager.

Last year, all karaoke outlets in Brunei were ordered to close down, following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Religious Affairs, including restaurants offering live band performances.

Another arcade manager questioned why there were no enforcement officers from the Municipal Department to check on their outlets last year and told them to stop operating the k-boxes.

“As such, we thought we can continue to operate the k-boxes because we are located on commercial premises and are offering family-oriented entertainment, plus since last year there was no visit from Municipal Department officers telling us to close our k-boxes,” said the manager.

The Brunei Times

http://www.bt.com.bn/news-national/2013/12...nicipal-dep’t

QUOTE

KARAOKE boxes (k-boxes) were shut down as a “preventive measure to curb social ills”, and allowing it at arcades goes against the country’s aspiration to become a Zikir Nation, a Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department official said.

Head of Legal Enforcement Adi Syohreni Abd Hadi said karaoke boxes at arcades posed a negative impact on society.

“The karaoke boxes are dark, and it promotes indecent behaviour among teenagers in the country,” she told The Brunei Times.

“The implications it brings upon society is quite negative, we do not want to see our teenagers indulging in indecent behaviour (including close proximity) as it does not reflect the country as a Zikir Nation,” she added.

[Related story: Karaoke boxes in arcade shuts down]

In addition, she said a directive was issued on November 20 last year whereby the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) prohibited karaoke services live band performances at business premises.

The Municipal Department was tasked to enforce the ruling as it has the authority that approves the validity of public entertainment licences for business premises.

Under the directive, public entertainment licences were also denied extension upon their expiry.

She said business owners were informed of the prohibition of karaoke services before the enforcement.

“We implemented a proper procedure whereby we sent the owners (of arcades and businesses that offer karaoke services) a notice informing them of the new rule.

“If they do not budge, then of course necessary action will be taken and it might also lead to confiscation of the karaoke machines,” she added.

Adi Syohreni said entertainment business owners, especially arcades, were required to pay $100 for each machine, as stated in the Public Entertainment Act.

“With the issuance of the directive, most legal documents (licences) stated that business owners only paid for video game machines and others, excluding the karaoke facilities on their premises,” she said.

“There is also discretion to this, for private events like weddings, if they want to organise a karaoke session, they should apply for approval from MoHA at least two weeks before the event,” she added.

Even if it was a last-minute event, members of the public should make an attempt to inform the ministry as failure to do so would result in action taken against them, the head of Legal Enforcement said.

“In relation to this, people are usually confused about MoHA’s work and the police; the police is only responsible for public safety, while MoHA is responsible for approving or denying applications on public entertainment,” she said.

She added that the rules were only applicable to the public domain, as families are still able to sing karaoke at their homes.

The Brunei Times

WOW I didn't know these karaoke box even exist in Brunei until this article. It's located in the gaming arcade so I'm guessing its a game type karaoke machine and not like those in Miri where sexy girls can sing along with you But I guess this is consider too much for the municipal board of Brunei because it's too popular among the local teenagers and social ills.

Revealing this, Customs Director-General Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad said more such operations would be conducted to stem the abuse of duty-free vehicles in Labuan.

"Effective January 1, 2013, owners of vehicles leaving the duty-free island for customs areas, under Article 21A of the Duties Exemption Order, need to declare through Customs 1 forms," said Khazali at the department's enforcement complex in Kiansam.

He was here for a seminar to raise the level of integrity and accountability of customs agents, as well as shippers and forwarders.

During the first 10 months this year, the customs enforcement division conducted seven sea and land operations to prevent smuggling activities and to enforce the laws under its jurisdiction.

During the same period, Khazali said, the department collected RM437,642,286.68 in revenue, adding it was on track to achieve the 2012 revenue target of RM592,354,934.64.

To a question on why electronic home appliances here are more expensive than outside the duty-free area, its Labuan Director, Wasimi Daimin, said: "The quantities imported are too small to discharge here."

As these goods are not duty-free in Sabah and brought to Labuan, Wasimi said, adding it was up to the importers and manufacturers to claim reimbursement for the taxes already paid.

--Courtesy of The Daily Express

Wah Orange Lambo?
