Maxis Hidden Plan RM58

My gf was using Maxis Surfmore 50 (RM50 for 5GB data, calls and sms charged separately) before she decided to port out. Shortly after she replied to Maxis port out sms, Maxis called her to offer RM58 plan (10GB data and unlimited calls & sms) which cannot be found on Maxis website! She rejected and insisted to port out since Maxis network is getting poorer.

Facebook Contact Sync not working anymore?

Guys,

Usually after I sync my Facebook contacts (Settings -> Accounts and sync -> Facebook -> Sync contacts), all the contacts will reflect their latest Facebook photos and status.

but this has stopped working since last week. all the contacts will only show latest Facebook photos but not status.

my girl friend's SGS also has the same problem. is it just me?

Being a fresh grad, I've finally managed to enter into Big 4 audit. this is the dream job for most accounting students.
But now I discovered that my interest is not in audit/ accounting. the hour is long, workload is extremely high. you get headache when you have nasty client. and most importantly, audit is non value added to a company.

Everybody was saying work 3 years in Big 4 audit and get chartered license and you have a bright future. i thought i can be strong and force myself to like my job. but i couldn't.
Now i go to work everyday demotivated. i take mcs and leaves frequently.

During my course of studies, i had deep interest in finance. accounting was my weakest paper. i always thinking to switch to Corporate Finance or Investment Banking.

Should I?

Which Big 4 Audit?

Hey people,

I am a fresh ACCA Affiliate searching for my first job in an established audit firm. I've attended KPMG's interview recently and was told I'm basically hired, pending for HR formalities. If I choose to join, I would be joining Audit M, whose clients are mostly from insurance industry. My availability date is 18/1 but can postpone to 1/2, if I need to.

However, I will be having interview with BDO this week & EY next week. Here come my dilemma:

1. to start in KPMG on 18/1 (before EY interview) or 1/2 (after EY interview)?
2. which to choose if BDO and EY offer me as well?

Perhaps, I could just list down the pros and cons of each choice:

KPMG
Pros:
1. cheap parking at RM1/ entry
2. many lengluis (can confirm?)
3. audit in insurance industry gives more exposure (can confirm?)

Cons:
1. a bit far from my house (Cheras)
2. jam, toll

BDO
Pros:
1. higher pay than big 4 for fresh grad
2. accessible by LRT (15 mins from my house LRT station), hence no jam, parking & toll

Cons:
1. not big 4, hence might not be good for resume in long run

EY
Pros:
1. my preferred choice as I have few friends working in there
2. the culture and learning are better and more established (can confirm?)
3. nearer to my house as compared to KPMG

Cons:
1. SUPER DUPER EXPENSIVE PARKING AT MENARA MILENIUM AT RM3/ HOUR

Can anyone provide me with comparisons between the 3 firms from various aspects? Thanks for your kind assistance!

How much is the price increase for the Sports Package?
There will be an addition of RM12 across any packages that includes sports. This means that if you are currently on the Basic package + 1 Mini Package + Sports at RM54.95 per month, your new price will be RM66.95 per month.

The increase of RM12, which is equal to one cinema ticket, works out to be an additional 40 sen daily for which you and your family get to enjoy non stop premium and live sports programmes on 5 channels.

Why is there a need for a revision in the Sports Package price?
Content cost is rising year on year, more so sports content. Key sports content is expensive. Astro is unable to continue to absorb the sky-rocketing costs of sports contents indefinitely.

The re-price of the Sports Package will help offset some but not all of the high cost of the sports content that has been substantially borne by Astro, making it possible for our customers to continue to enjoy world class, premium, live sports events.

Even with the price revision, Astro Sports package remains the lowest priced sports package in the region, offering 24 hours of premium, live and world class sports events over 5 channels.

When will the new price for Sports Package be effective?
The new price will take effect from your next bill statement that is in the month of August.

Can I cancel my Sports Package and do I have to pay a penalty for the cancellation? How much is the penalty?
Between 23rd July and 15th September 2009, all customers of the Astro Sports Package can change the combination of their Astro packages without incurring any charges for switching fee. The grace period is applicable only to customers with the Sports Package in their package mix.

Changes to your Astro package can be made via our website at www.astro.com.my. You can also send us a fax at 03 - 9543 7333, email us at package@astro.com.my or call us at 1-300 82 3838.

With the increase in Sports Package, what would be the cost of the different packages?

What happens if I have made pre-payment through direct debit?
Customers who are currently on the pre-payment plan with 3, 6 or 12 months billing frequency will only be impacted upon renewal of the pre payment scheme. This means the new Sports Package price will not take effect till your next billing cycle.

Is there going to be a price increase for other packages too?
This price increase only applies to customers who subscribes to the Astro Sports package. While Astro will continue to practise rigorous cost discipline, rising content costs mean that price revisions are unavoidable.

Unstable P2P speed on Xunlei

Hi sifus,

Whenever I download something using Xunlei, at first I could get full speed. But after 5 minutes, the speed will drop tremendously even though the torrent has many resources.

Then I stop the task for a while/ restart my router, I could get back full speed. The after 5 minutes, the speed drops again.

I'm using:
Xunlei 5.8.6.600 No ad version
Linksys WRT54GL (flashed with Tomato 1.25)

I wonder is it the software problem or router problem. This problem has been there for quite some time. Please help!

Recommend me a modem & router or AIO

Hi people,

I've had enough of my current Linksys WAG200G AIO. It's very unstable for heavy P2P and keeps hanging (despite I've upgraded to the latest firmware).

I'm on 4mbps streamyx and I P2P 24/7. I have 1 desktop (LAN) and 1 laptop (WLAN) sharing on the internet. Desktop is for P2P and laptop is for casual surfing. I need a fast and stable device for long hour P2P. Now I am looking into the below options:

1. modem + wireless router

2. modem router AIO

Please recommend me which brand and model to get. Just a G router will do as I'm just staying in a flat. Better if the router can be flashed with DD-WRT or Tomato firmware as I heard they are good for P2P. My budget is RM300. Need to get it urgently.
