Chery Tiggo 7 Pro

In a media briefing today, Chery Malaysia revealed preliminary specifications of the upcoming locally assembled (CKD) Chery Tiggo 7 Pro. Chery Malaysia has also confirmed that the Tiggo 7 Pro will be launched within the first half of 2024.

Prior to the Tiggo 7 Pro, Chery has already launched the Tiggo 8 Pro and the Omoda 5. Chery also plans to launch the all-electric Chery Omoda E5 soon.

Seemingly coming in a single variant only, here is the preliminary technical information of the Tiggo 7 Pro that has been shared so far:

Engine: 1.6 TGDI
Transmission: 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT)
Maximum Power: 197 hp
Maximum Torque: 290 Nm
0-100 km/h acceleration: 8.3 seconds

Interestingly, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro for Malaysia will be getting the more powerful 1.6-litre TGDI engine and a 7-speed DCT. Back when it was previewed in July 2023, the Tiggo 7 Pro was shown with a 1.5-litre turbocharged mill that made 156 hp and 230 Nm. The engine was also paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

If you’re wondering who it is aiming for, it has its eyes set on C-segment SUVs like the Proton X70 and the Honda CR-V. Like existing Chery models, it will be assembled in Kulim, Kedah.

The Tiggo 7 Pro is built on the same T1X Comfort Chassis as the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. According to Chery, the T1X platform has better headroom for front and rear seats, and higher ground clearance. The approach and departure angles also ensure better off-road performance.

KUANTAN - Nama Kuantan yang trending di media sosial beberapa hari lalu selepas disebut dalam sebuah anime Jepun terkenal, Jujutsu Kaisen dibangkitkan pada sidang Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Pahang pada Rabu.

Exco Perpaduan, Pelancongan dan Kebudayaan Pahang, Leong Yu Man berkata, kerajaan Pahang sedang menghubungi pihak Jepun bagi berhubung dengan penulis siri anime tersebut.

Menurutnya, usaha itu dilakukan bagi mengambil kesempatan mempromosikan Kuantan, khususnya pantai di daerah berkenaan.

"Ada peminat anime ini telah menanda dalam peta Google sebagai tugu peringatan kepada watak Kento Nanami.

Restaurant Credits Deliciousness of Pork Skewers to Sauce Jar That Hasn’t Been Cleaned in 60 Years

A popular restaurant in Tokyo, Japan, sparked controversy for claiming to dip its delicious pork skewers in a sauce jar that has not been cleaned in over half a century.

Abe-chan, a famous pork skewer eatery in Tokyo’s Azabu Juban shopping district, was recently featured on a popular Japanese television show where it was revealed that one of the secrets to its success was a rather dubious-looking jar covered in a gelatinous mass. Apparently, this was the same sauce jar that pork skewers have been dipped in for the last sixty years, and the dark brown mass around the jar is the sauce that spilled over and hardened over the decades. According to the third-generation owner of Abe-chan, the jar has never been cleaned in the last six decades, which apparently contributes to the rich taste of the sauce.

Instead of cleaning the sauce jar every day, after closing, the staff at Abe-chan simply pours more sauce over the leftovers of the day, which only amplifies its aroma. The congealed mass around the earthen pot of sauce isn’t the most appetizing sight when ordering street food, but for the owners of Abe-chan it is a valuable treasure put on display right next to the charcoal grill.

Abe-chan was reportedly founded in 1933 by the grandfather of the current owner, and the sauce jar has been around since those early days. The tradition of adding to the sauce without actually cleaning the container has been respected by all three generations, and the current owner is convinced that it contributed to the success of the family business.

During the television show, experts were asked about the potential hygiene hazards of simply adding new sauce in a container that hasn’t been cleaned in several decades and one of them said that if the sauce is heat-treated long enough, there shouldn’t be any danger of bacterial contamination. Also, an experiment where clean water was added to a container full of black water 365 times showed that most of the original contents didn’t even exist by the end. So it’s not like the sauce jar actually contains sauce from 60 years ago.

At the time of this writing, it’s unclear how Abe-chan is handling the criticism of its decades-old tradition. Some sources claim that the owner decided to go on with business as usual despite the controversy, while others say that he cleaned the jar for the first time in 60 years.

Interestingly, Abe-chan isn’t alone in its controversial practice. A few years ago, we featured another Japanese restaurant that had been using the same broth for 65 years, and earlier than that we had featured the noodle soup at Wattana Panich, in Thailand, which had been cooked in the same uncleaned pot for 45 years.

Cikgu sent sexually explicit text msg to student

A secondary school teacher who got to know one of his male students in 2020 started sending the boy sexually explicit text messages two years later.

Feeling sexually exploited, the 15-year-old victim alerted the police in February 2023.

The 64-year-old man, who cannot be named owing to a gag order to protect the victim’s identity, was sentenced to three weeks’ jail on Oct 12 after he pleaded guilty to one count of having sexual communication with a minor below 16 years old.

He got to know the boy in 2020 when the latter was a Secondary 1 student, and they shared a teacher-student relationship.

The man started texting the boy in late 2022 and in November that year, sent the teenager a message about a sex toy and how it could be used.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Da Zhuan told the court: “The victim was alarmed by the accused’s messages and felt sexually exploited.”

Shortly after midnight on Jan 28, 2023, the man sent another sexually explicit text message to the boy, who alerted the police 10 days later.

On Thursday, DPP Lee asked for the man to be sentenced to at least a month in jail, adding: “Instead of caring for the victim as a student, the accused made use of his position as a teacher to procure sexual conversations with the student.

“The accused acted exactly the opposite of his responsibility towards the victim as his teacher by taking advantage of the victim, sexually texting the victim on multiple occasions.”

A woman in China filmed cooking rice on a high-speed train has stirred both shock and amusement on mainland social media.

In a video taken by a passenger, the woman is shown sitting with her husband on a train with a rice cooker on a tray table in front of them. While talking with her husband, the woman uses a spoon to fill plastic bowls with cooked rice.

Passengers nearby look on in surprise and confusion as the couple, who seem unaware they are attracting attention, continue talking and eating.

The couple used an outlet commonly used to charge devices like mobile phones and laptops as a power source.

China Railway said using high-powered electrical appliances or potentially hazardous items such as rice cookers, hot-water bottles and kettles is banned on trains.

The story has gone viral on Douyin, with 24,000 comments left on the video.
