DVD player can't play DVD9

Sorry, noob question here.

I'm using Philips DVP 3000k (kinda old already) and I've no problem playing normal DVD discs. My player couldn't detect the DVD9 disc and gave the 'no disc' error.

I'm wondering is this because my player doesn't support DVD9 or the is disc defective?

I couldn't check the disc with my computer now..

Any ideas? Thanks.

Sound Problem

Hello. I've just installed Ubuntu through Wubi. I wanna try it out and get familiar with it. But I've a problem, there's no sound, is it because my hardware is not detected?

I've tried this tutorial in ubuntu's forum. I was following the instructions until alsamixer and after typing sudo alsactl store 0, I am prompted to type in my password, but I can't type in anything. I pressed on the buttons on the keyboard but it won't show.

Is this because my Linux is installed through Wubi? And during installation I did skip something, I was in a hurry and thought that could speed things up. Do I have to reinstall?

Oh, ubuntu also didn't detect my sansa mp3 player. Is it possible for it to detect my player?

Thank you.
