What type of Software to use?

Hi all,

I am assigned to manage a database for my company. There is one program written in Paradox few years ago, and there aren't any people know how to use it in my company.
So I figured out it might be faster if I write a new database system instead of study the 'ancient' Paradox.

So my Main question is What kind of software to use for creating a simple database system?

What the system basically need to do is, for example:
Customer order product A, B and C.
After key in the Products & Qty, the system will check the master list. And generate the QTY materials required etc.

From what I researched, Microsoft Access is able to do what I needed. Can some expert please confirm or can you guys introduce any other kind of program to do that?

Thanks in advance.

CD-ROM and Hardisk Not compatible?

I just bought a new set of desktop.

The mobo is
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

The problem is when I plug in my old hardisk (320G, PATA) and my CD-ROM using same cable to mobo(the cable connect mobo to the HDD and CD-ROM).
My CD-ROM is not detected. I can still open the tray, just my desktop did not detect the CD-ROM

When I plug out the cable connect to HDD, left only the cable connect from MOBO to CD-ROM, then only it will detect there is a cd-rom connected.

Any idea what is going on?

Thanks in advance
