All of these models, the 35, 50, 55 and now 75 are based on the same 60-ohm drivers (also used in the Porta-Pro and KTX-Pro phones). The original model, the 35, is regarded as the standard by which all cheap, portable headphones are compared. The original 35 was a black, clip-on model, built to be very shallow and to fit closely on the ears. It was a fairly nasty-looking, uncomfortable piece, and frequently had problems with its thin foam padding tearing. It was updated to the 50 and 55 models, more "modern" looking silver clip-ons and behind-the-head models. The problem with these was they were significantly heavier, and didn't fit so snugly to the ears. Thus, even though the drivers were the same, the sound suffered a bit because of the loose fit.

The 75 moves a bit closer to the original 35. It is a shallower phone, although still not quite as much so as the 35. It does tend to fit snugly to the ear, which helps make the sound a bit fuller. They are nice and light and are very comfortable. The clip is a different design, it doesn't snap into place like the orignal 35 or hinge like the 50. It simply bends around the ear, leading to two problems with this design. The durability of the thin guage wire could be a problem. Secondly, the headphone cup tends to snap off of the clip when fitting the headphone to the ear. It simply snaps back into place again, but its a nuisance. Once properly placed, which takes a little practice, the sound is typical Koss KSC. The sound is pleasant and full, reasonably detailed and transparent. There is roll-off at both frequency extremes, although this can easily be corrected if your player has an equalizer. Even without equalization, though, the sound is quite good. Despite the 60-ohm rating, the 75's are reasonably easy for low power portables to drive. On an absolute scale or compared to the better $50 phones, such as the Sennheiser HD-497, the Koss KSC-75's don't stand out, but for a price of less than $15, these are outstanding. They easily trump any of the included phones or buds with portable players and are easy to transport, due to their light weight and small size. Another excellent, cheap Koss phone.

Update: With more use, I've become more favorably impressed with this phone. Its sound seems to have opened up with more break in. It now is very transparent with a rich, deailed sound - unbelievable for this price range. After a few uses, one gets the earclips adjusted properly to where they go on almost instantly and stay put and are very comforatble. This should minimize the amount of adjustment needed and prolong the life of the clip. Still, the headphone cups occasionally snap off of the clips even during normal handling.
KroCraft Speaker 2.0 Computer Speaker By Scythe

Review Of KroCraft Speaker
2.0 Computer Speaker By Scythe
This is a review requested by Sanko (forumers here). Initially I decline the request as I told him that : if the product is bad, I will seriously say it all out in forum. But then he told me:"never mind, just go ahead and write anything you want." LOL! So fine, I will do it.

At the first when I saw this KroCraft speaker box, what occurs in my mind was "another multimedia speaker. Aim for computer usage with poor soundcards". Hence I don’t put any high expectation towards the sound quality it might be able to produce.

Drivers
However, during un-box; I had shocked by the driver used in the speaker. First, the tweeters used in this speaker were soft dome tweeters with coating in order improve the respond and sensitivity, this tweeter capable to produce 20khz of upper limits (though no obvious data stated that limits were measured in negative X db). This technique was widely used in most proper “hifi” brand as a fundamental to get good sound. However, the combination of tweeter motor magnet, driver membrane, and the coating material will be the customisation of each factory to tailor their own sound. Other than that, mid-bass driver used in this speaker were Aluminium surface with shape of smooth concave, without the usual popping out dust cap. These drivers immediately remind me of Driver used by Germany HIFI manufacturer ELAC. Which using same Aluminium sandwiched structure with concave structure, providing most rigidity across the membrane and to remain uniform structure integrity across the membrane when the driver is performing air pumping movement, hence reduce bass distortion.

Speaker Box
The Driver itself already provides good impression to me. When I attempt to life the speaker box out, what surprises me more is the weight of the speaker itself. The speaker itself couldn’t be category as “BIG” bookshelve. But it is consider being heavy for the size of it. The front panel edges of the speaker box were shaved to reduce the front panel width in order to enhance depth projection of the sound. While the weight of the speaker itself provides a stable platform for the driver to moves the air without adding extra distortion caused by vibration originate from mid-bass driver. Despite the fact the price of this pair of speaker isn’t expensive. But the design of the box really wins my heart over. It is well built and rigid enough to withstand brutal blasts of the low frequencies

Sounds Performance
No matter how well the KroCraft speakers were built, the sound of the speaker must be heard in order to justify its performance. This speaker were clearly targeting computer user as their consumer range. Hence I will conduct the review with the bundled amplifier, source from Philips PC805 External USB sound card. I found out that KroCraft speaker were sensitive to speaker positioning. The bass will get really thick and heavy if the speaker is too near to the rear wall. While the tweeter as well has slightly higher directional than average speaker I ever heard. Hence I extend the distance of the speaker from the rear wall in order to get balance, deep, and not overwhelming bass. Due to the directional of the tweeter, I will need to toe in about 5-6 degree in order to project a wide staging. At this point, the overall sound is very good. However, there is still some harshness in the vocal on test track, especially noticeable in Celine Dion - [My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection] All by Myself; and Taylor Swift - [Fearless (Platinum Edition)] you Belong With Me. Hence I suspect the harshness were there due to the reason that the whole KroCraft speaker is brand new, the speaker, bundled amp, and cables were not even run in yet. In experiment, I swap my DIYed T-amp with QED Silver Anniversary Speaker cord into KroCraft speaker, and the sound and staging is significantly better, harshness in the mid is very much more reduced. So it is recommended buyer to run the speaker thoroughly, and if with higher budget, upgrade the cables, as well as the amp if you have spirits of DIY. T-amp is able to match perfectly with this speaker.

Despite the fact I spend quite some time on the positioning on the speaker, but the final sound the speaker produce makes it worth all the hassle. KroCraft speaker was able to project a wide, dynamic, and very powerful sound from the small speaker box size. And what is even more impressive is that it able to pump out more bass than my AEGO M speaker. On certain tracks, the STEREO bass produced by this speaker had totally overcome the performance offered by X.1 speaker setup. The resolutions of this speaker were good. But users are advice to spend more time in positioning this speaker, make sure both channel has equivalent distance from listener’s ear. Mid performance is as smooth as Aego M, with slight bump in certain frequencies, though it might be fade away through run in, or matching with other better speaker cable or amp. Watching transformer through this speaker is as fun as AEGO M due to superior of the bass respond.

What is even best, that the bundled amp of this speaker setup, can be insert directly into 5.25" bay of computer, follow the instruction and using accessories supply within the box. it is even possible to take power from computer PSU to power up the amp, or power it with bundled adapter at your choice. When sanko came over to take the speaker back, I was told by him that this speaker will be selling at RM 300+. And current batch were bundled with better amplifier. If you were looking for some entry level bookshelve speaker, and wanna enjoy the real 2.0 sound which able to produce low frequencies of the bass. I will really suggest you should at least hear the demo of this speaker before make and decision.

Unbox~~~

Tupperware water bottle is not included. it is for illustation of the size.. lol

Meh... this speaker COMES WITH AN AMP....
according to the box of this speaker amp
input is RCA only
output :
headphone out (Class AB headphone amplifier 50mW X 2 channel S/n ratio 95db)
Speaker Out (Power IC= Yamaha YDA 138 (D-3), 2 channel Stereo, 10W X 2 channel, Maximum efficiency = 88% 8 ohm at 10w , S/N ratio = 103db , Total harmonic distortion rate 0.02% (1khz at 8 ohm).
ect ect...

taken out from box
have to becareful about the driver when taken it out from the box. else very easy to dent the driver as it has no protection. so better don't grab the hand inside and pull it put, but just pour the speaker out from the box..
bad packing style though.

Comparison of the speaker size to D size battery.

Another view. note that the speaker has a flat bass port, which minimize wind cut distortion when the speaker pushing a lot of air, technique that commonly used in some multimedia woofers. Speaker comes with standard banana plugs. Forumers with strong DIY spirits might as well swap the banana plug to better quality plugs. to see if there's any significant improvement of the sound

Speaker Soft dome tweeter

Mid bass of the speaker, this driver is cold when touched. it is made of aluminium

The back of the bundled Amp using standard adapter head, with standard banana plugs

The side of the amp, unscrew this two screw on both side of this amp, then this amp can fit nicely into 5.25" bay of computer. then tighten it with bundled screw come with the speaker.

Accessories
note the PCI plate that allow speaker cable / adapter cable to go into the casing. it is included within the package.

Spec of this speaker as shown on the box
Dimensions 144X240 X 210mm
Weight 2.9KG
Impedance: 8 ohm
Maximum output: 20W
Tweeter: 25 mm Silk Soft Dome Tweeters
Mid-bass: 100mm Aluminium/Pump composite (Concave)
Frequencies Respond: 58 Hz-20 kHz
Enclosure type: Flow Guided Bass-Reflex Structure

Graphic Card Centrifuge Fan

Not sure if anyone had talk about it before. but more-likely i would like to share my though on this.

my brother had owned a Asus 8800GT for the pass 2@3 year.

and this item is well known for it's SUPER noisy fan and super inefficiency fan as they designed it into SLIM profile that only taken 1 single slot.
however, after sometime my brother using it, he started to complain that the fan is SUPER noisy, even in air-con room which the cool air directly blowing the casing. and the air temperature is set to 16C, it is so cool that even CPU cooler fan oso stop spining (C2D E6550). However, this small fan of graphic card on this particular asus graphic card still spinning at super annoying speed with very high pitch sound.

Eventually my brother had reach a limit of tolerance with the annoying noise and he decided to give me the card. upon i receive the card. i immediately install it to my system for a test drive.. On games like microsoft flight simulator FX, the graphic cards runs at very high speed fan, with temperature ranging around 65-70C.
and it's about 59C ideal. however, i test it with street fighter IV. the graphic card shoots up immediately to 85C within 5 minute and a warning msg pop out.

So we had the stock heatsink replaced with zalman VF-2000 , and now the ideal temperature is 45C, full load gaming of crysis for 3-4 hours will increase it to 52C. MAX 55C. so. a big thumb up for VF2000..

however, i had become curious with the stock cooler..
so i try to take it open to see what's their design in it..

here it comes :

i peel off the sticker of the picture (i though there's screw inside).. and this reveal a big nvidia logo..

lightly pry open the metal casing..

and then what's shocking me was..

Look how thick the dust was..

It's totally blocking the air funnel through the heatsink.. so i assume the fan were merely spinning itself without any effect of cooling the heat sink. all this while the 8800Gt were running at PASSIVE COOLING?

But i had already installed VF2000, and it's working fine. i don't want to install this back to test out either this heatsink is working all right or not.

as recently i had help my brother acquired a Asus GTX 285 Matrix

so one big question comes into my mind that, i had seen a lot of those higher end graphic cards were using centrifuge fan. will it develop problems like the 8800GT i had? dust blocked all the heatsink? and there's no way we can clean it?

how to prevent it? any methods? or just directly use vacuum cleaner suck the air inlet of the graphic card? and use a pcs of paper cards to poke the dust out???
pls enlighten me.. Thanks

choise between two speaker

Recently i come across choice of two speaker i might interested to buy.

1. Sonus Faber Concertino Domus
2. ProAc Studio 110

any people who compared them or used them for a long time, pls do give me some suggestion, i needs answer for consider.
1. which speaker is harder to drive?
2. which speaker is more musical?
i don't want extreme bass respond, or treble. for me, i want vocal to be meaty, thick, warm, and detail.
i personally tested both at different shop, with different setup. and proac did impress me by the bass and treble, however, it's sound pressure level is high. and i just found myself can't relax listening to ProAc.
while sonus faber does give more depth, instrument were played nicely, wide, and relax.

my current amp will be NAD3020A (25 Watt continues). which i might upgrade to single ended tube amp after i got speaker.

what i need currently, is a speaker with wide sound stage, relaxing type of characteristic, thick in vocal, warm, and has detail (and some speed, not fast, but don't be slow either) so that i can listen the music, read books and sleep while the music are well define..
ProAc sounds good to me, but it really sounds like a grado to me. exciting sound. emphasis on dynamic making even most relaxing song also excited.... that's a negative point for me.

pls. i need those who had actual experience on the speaker to discuss. pls don't spam. and pls. no spec talk according to spec sheet provided by manufacturer.
thanks.

Headphone Driver Frequencies Distribution

ok
first at all, i was thinking, for normal driver. which looks like the picture above (SR80 driver) so we don't talk about other special geometry driver or weired shape diaphram driver like AKG K501,601,701, Beyer 880 990.

let say we set this as basic shape.
so Question that keep ringing in my mind is

Where does the Bass were mostly produce
and where does the Treble were mostly produce.

this is driver of KSC75. is that the bass were from middle, and higher frequencies are in outer rim?
reason : the middle parts move with much larger amplitude and "might be" slower speed/ frequencies. while the outer rim is fix on the shell /spider, so the movement at outer rim is faster and with smaller amplitude. with that. the bass is from middle, and the treble is from outer rim.
as the outer rim doesn't have sponge edge or rubber edge that same with speaker. so can we assume that the driver is flexible in certain level.

However, on my own experiment of KSC75. i try to drill more holes on outer rims of the driver's grill, i found out that BASS is gain. while TREBLE is less.
might have two situation here.
1. the bass is produced by the outer rim
2. the extra holes on grill reduce air pressure and let the driver move faster.

however, while i drill a big hole in the center of the grill. TREBLE were increase.
so is that means, the driver should produce sounds like this?

and below is pictures of Sennheiser HD580 and Sennheiser HD600.
from picture we can see that the sound reflection membrane were cut out in the middle. that is to let bass to pass through. or increase the clarity by allowing more treble to pass through?

Any pro who knows the answer, or suggestion, pls comes discuss here. or suggest me some material / homepages to read on.
Thanks a lot.
