Successful set up of CCTV DVR with D-Link DIR615

How I successfully set up CCTV DVR (model H264) with D-Link router DIR 615 for remote viewing under UniFi

Note:

(1) I had the modem TMRND router that came with unifi package replaced with D-Link DIR 615. The TMRND never seems to work. (The TMNet staff who came to fix my bricked IPTV unit replaced the router without any fuss when I casually mentioned to him I had been unable to do port forwarding with the TMRND router).

(2) Since the router and DVR unit are not in the same room, I had to use Aztech HomePlug to create a connection between the router and the DVR unit.

First: Get a hostname by registering with http://www.dyndns.com or similar services since the IP assigned by TMNet is dynamic IP

Second: configure the CCTV unit under “main menu ---> network”. The following details were set:

DHCP is disabled
IP address: 192.168.1.250 (must be outside the value set by main router with DHCP enabled)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS: 202.188.0.133
Secondary DNS: 202.188.1.5
TCP port: 34567 (or any port you desire, preferably higher than 1024)
HTTP port: 8181 (or any port you desire, preferably higher than 1024)

Third:

(i) set the router for port forwarding. Main page ---> advance ---> port forwarding
set the following details:

Main page

(ii) enable the DDNS: Main page ---> maintenance ---> DDNS setting. Enter the appropriate details:

Do not forget to click on DDNS Account Testing.

Fourth: Test the connection. You must be outside the LAN! (Connect to a VPN first, or ask a friend to test the connection)

Open Microsoft Internet Explorer. Type http://registered-hostname-with-dyndns.org:8181

If successful you will be prompted with login details of the DVR. If not you will get “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”

Reference:

http://www.dyndnscommunity.com/questions/6...on-problem.html

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ks8RH8RjwI
