New company

I really impressed by the filtering system and freedom of speech in LYN. If my items gone missing during the delivery process, LYN suppose to hold full responsibility for it? I suppose LYN owe me a really good explanation. I received a package this morning and guess what happened to my company name in the recipient address? Picture worth thousands words, check the attached pic.

Dual ISP load balancing via single NIC and VM

Since I'm the only person that uses PC at my home.. I'm not going to setup a real machine running as linux load balancer... instead i tried routing all the connections to my virtual machine and have it to serve as a gateway for my host PC.

I had tried http://www.pfsense.com/. However it requires me to bind each ISP connection to and independent NIC which is impossible for me because I have I'm using only 1 Wifi adapter and cat-5 cable is not an option due to wiring issues and my routers are at living room while I'm use laptop at my bedroom.

Is there any other pfsense alternative that allow me to bind more than 1 connection to a NIC while still able to load balance from 2 or more ISPs?

TMNet is deleting news regrading down time?

I remember there were a lot of down time announcements in www.tm.net.my.. at least 5 announcements per month... But until recently i checked tm.net website again... and found that they had deleted all of the news regrading down time / maintenance.

January 07 Snapshot
http://web.archive.org/web/20070118064001/....cfm?types=News

Now
http://www.tm.net.my/tmnet2006/contents/co...hs=1&years=2007

What are they trying to hide?

Large Scale Protest for better broadband?

I'm a TMnut Streamyx users for more than 4 years... I had a lot of bad experiences with the Streamyx services.. i guess stories of my bad experiences with Streamyx services isn't important. We had tried almost all the ways to fight for our consumer rights ... did we see any improvements? complaints letters/emails/calls/face to face/newspapers, MCMC and petitions. ALL END UP WITH FAILURE. We do not see any improvement for their services for the passed 4 years.

Instead of getting better, their services are getting worse and worse..they upgraded the bandwidth once for their service packages in the previous 4 years yet they're throttling the bandwidth for almost a year (and still throttling)...

* those frequent disconnection problems never been fixed and they blame it for poor cropper line (true but as you're providing the service you need to fix it)
* poor network performance (even locally)
* applies net neutrality without even get the agreement from the subscribers
* overselling bandwidth yet still keep getting more subscribers with existing poor network architectures.
* worse customer services
* staffs that dealing directly with customers know very little to nothing about IT. they cant even think logically.
* you can pay tmnut insiders duit kopi to get your screamymax operate at higher priority (i know it is new to most of us but it is real) which i think it is damn unfair for the other subscribers.

all the the statements above are my humble opinions... i had been patiently waiting from improvements for more than 4 years... Still cries and whine on every malaysian forums? Can change anything? so what do you think?

Is SNR margin releavite with Up/downstream?

i'm experiencing frequent dsl de-sync with DSLAM (a.k.a dsl light blinking / frequent disconnection) problems. had been calling for tmnut careline(1300889515)... telekom careline(100) ... for more than 7 weeks. telekom technician came twice to hep me.
first time before the Haji holidays they checked the line quality with a device that can show SNR margin / Line Attenuation and some other info (i looked at it for a split second only) . the second times they came... they changed the outdoor cropper lines.

the readings was exactly the same with my router readings.
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin:	15.0 19.0 db <--- the technician said it is a very good value (which i doesn't think so.. because when i was renting a room at Wangsa Maju area... i get much higher reading, it was super stable until i moved )
Line Attenuation: 61.0 31.0 db <--- really bad values
Data Rate: 1536 512 kbps

sometimes the modem can sync the data rate at lower speed and giving the much higher SNR margin.. there were a few times.. the SNR reading was over 32db for downstream and 38 for upstream however my data rate was lowered to 700++ kbps (downstream) and 300++ kbps (upstream) although the reading for data rate DECREASED but i get a much stable line which able to sustain the connection for almost 3 days (until i restarted the modem) ... is there any configuration for the modem to force the modem to sync at lower speed and improve the SNR reading?

TMNET Problems-Solutions

Careline/ Customer Interaction Center / 1300-88-9515 / Whatever

Please allow the customer to skip the robotic announcements after the first options... it is very very annoying to keep listening to the same thing over and over again.

Senario: DSL Blinking / Frequent Disconnection
1. Stop asking the customers about their operating system... does it matter?
2. Stop asking the customers are they using router or not... does it matter?
3. Stop telling the customers to wait for another 2 working days when the report already made for more than 2 working days. Solve it NOW. FYI, a RM88 package... costs us RM22 per week.
4. Stop closing the report before the case is solved and confirmed by your customers.

What should they ask:
Ask them to unplug ALL the phone from the phonelines and connect the modem directly into the wall socket without using filter.

Do your connection stable before the dsl blinking / Frequent Disconnection problem happen?
Yes ---> record down.
No ---> record down.

Can you provide technical details about your current SNR margin and line attenuation?
yes ---> record down the values for both SNR margin up/downstream and line attenuation up/downstream and give your smart technician to handle it.
the scope of the trobule shooting became smaller... take this info and do something..
since both isp and phoneline provider is under the same company, communication problems minimized, they should be solving the problem in no time.

Something worth praising: The way they handle the conversations is very proffessional. asking questions with soft voice and manner.I'm statisfied with this. But not the ways they try to solve the customer problems. They really need to improve their technical knowledge, common sense and logic thinking.

My Questions towards TMNET:
1. Do tmnet reserves free ports for a DSLAM (they called it exchange)?

2. When tmnet said they reset the port do it means they swap the port with another port, reconfigure or repair(possible? i thought DSLAM is whole device cannot repair/replace seperate module?) the port?

3. Will tmnet technicians swap a port with good condition but in-use by a customer with another customer complained for DSL Blinking problem?

4. If ports are spoiled or problematic will it affect the DSLAM and service in the area? will tmnet replace the faulty DSLAM?

What can the streamyx users / community do since complaining in the major medias or consumer right department also not helping?
Since they had no idea how to improve themself... perhaps we can form a group with techies and simulate the Customer Interaction Center either in written or spoken form and send the simulations results to the tmnet staffs for their reference to improve their service quality.

PS: We're subscribed to ALWAYS ON connection not always DISCONNECTING or ALWAYS BLINKING connection.
PPS: Dont tell us copper line quality problem... TM/TMNET YOU'RE THE COPPER LINES OWNER ALSO...FIX IT.

Publish at http://flying spaghetti monster.org/forum by megablue
