Name of Company: -

Role: I'm looking for someone that can write short informative articles (150-200 words) pertaining to beauty & wellness. I could give you a general topic & you could research deeper into it & write up something e.g. on a particular ingredient, daily routines, best practices etc. Ideally have credible online sources for your research instead of just blogs.

Remuneration: RM25/article but if you have a difference price, whether higher or lower, talk to me about it. For now, probably 1 article a week? Might change to once per fortnight.

Requirements: It'll be great of you can describe to me the kinda infographic or picture to go with each of your article.

Contact Person: PM me or reply below for other employers to notice you.

Could you also show me some of your past works for consideration?

Outsourced Accounting

I get PMs from freelance accountants every now & then over the years, but I never get a proper answer to my questions. So I might as well throw my questions out here regarding outsourcing accounting services.

I got a rough idea on the broad job scope; accounting, taxation, auditing etc but how exactly does this work? Say I engaged an accountant, after chop sign agreement etc, what's next? Do they visit me on a weekly/monthly basis? What do I need to provide for them to do their work? Do they manage all the APs & ARs?

How exactly do they charge? I always gets the "Depends..........." answer, but that's still too vague. So what is the quantifiable measurement that is commonly used? Sales turnover? Number of transactions? Per hour? Per ledger? Per report?

I've also occasionally hear people ranting about accountants making mistake & ended up being heavily penalized by LHDN. What do people normally do to mitigate this?

e-Commerce Discussions

This is just something for consideration depending on whether there's sufficient support or not.

I'm proposing a subforum for e-commerce discussions for people to exchange pointers pertaining to e-commerce activities e.g. impact of DFTZ, magento or shopify?, effective ways to grow traffic, what to avoid, which 3rd party logistics and etc etc etc. Service providers can participate too but ideally the soliciting/advertising should be justified so that it doesn't turn into another service noticeboard. It could also be a place for Lazada, 11Street, Shopee & even TradeZone sellers to discuss their issues like the Grab & Uber subforum.

Currently these topics/discussions are usually split between:
- Kopitiam
- Serious Kopitiam
- Finance Business & Investment
- Blogmaster & Webmaster
- Trade Zone's Resource Center

So it may be difficult to get better responses since people hardly visit the last 3 subforum. Probably pulling out Trade Zone's Resource Center, rename it into something like "e-Commerce Discussion Center" & park it under Round Table Discussion may do the trick?

Looking to recreate a logo

I have a low res version of a logo, but I need a high res version of it to be used for all my advertising, media & printing needs.

What I'm looking for is a high res version of my logo in the following formats:
1. AI format for people to use in Illustrator or PS
2. PDF format for me to view & use
3. PNG format (transparent background) of the logo
4. PNG format (transparent background) of the logo in white color so that I can use it on dark background

Preferably someone located around Shah Alam, Subang Jaya or Petaling Jaya, so it's convenient to COD. Or else, you have to send me the artwork first before I can release payment.

Kindly PM me your rates for the above mentioned artworks.

Nearly every month I'll get few boxes of these biodegradable packaging Styrofoam peanuts (refer pic below). Anyone uses or buy these regularly for their business? I notice it's for sale (quite expensive) in packaging shops. It's good for filling up voids to prevent your goods from moving & get damaged while shipping. I heard it's recyclable too as it's biodegradable grade, anyone knows of any recycling center that takes these?

QUOTE

For those selling stuffs via FaceBook, specifically those who uses the FaceBook shop feature. Recently FB starting to reject my products listed in FB Shop.

QUOTE

Rejected: There are issues with your product
If you've read our commerce policies and think that your item should be approved, fill in this form.
It looks like we didn't approve your item because we don't allow the sale of adult health items or supplements (e.g. weight loss, sexual health or nutritional products).

Obviously none of my products fits any of their banned items description. The form is bugged & I can't even make any appeals.

So far I research online, quite a number of people are experiencing this issue since 1 year ago & there hasn't been a solid solution from FB team. The answers that FB team provided hasn't been helpful. So anyone experienced the same issue & got a solution for this?

Normal Email Bounced/Blocked/Rejected/Blacklist

I'm currently using one of our local company to host my website & email.

Lately as my work increase, I have to respond to a lot more emails including overseas emails. What I'm starting to experience is more & more of my emails got rejected/bounced. I noticed it's due to the receiver's email provider blocking & labeling my emails as SPAM. It's just normal Q&A emails & the odd thing is, for the most recent case, I used to be able to email the person but suddenly my emails got bounced starting yesterday. According to my email host, their email reputation for their IP is good.

How do I solve this? At this rate, I foresee more & more emails of mine getting blocked or bounced.

Does changing to another email host helps?

DIY Videos

I'm trying to find out how feasible for me to be regularly making videos like this:

What are the recommended cameras to record that kinda video? Appreciate if I can get a cheapest option & a decent option.

I have a Xiao Yi, is it possible to achieve something similar to that video if I don't mind the fish-eye lens?

Besides the camera, what are the accessories I need? E.g. tripod? lighting? Appreciate if you can share some keywords for me to Google further.

What's the most user friendly software to edit, add texts, subtitles, music, voice overs to the videos I made? I have both AI & PS, totally fail to use it since it's too complex for me. But I've managed to use combination of PPTX, Paint & PDF to edit or design stuffs all this while.

Thank in advance.

Anyone with Eczema or Psoriasis?

Pure shea butter is one of the best remedy for people with dry skin problem such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis etc. For those who have not heard of shea butter, I've made an info thread on it here; https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=3921619&hl=

I have 3 types of pure shea butters to give away to people with eczema or psoriasis;

- refined (no smell)
- unrefined (original)
- nilotica (for face)

It's packed into 5ml jars, more than plenty to let people feel its soothing effect on the affected area. Currently planned to give away to 10 LYN members who claims it here. All I'm asking is a photo of the affected area with your LYN name written clearly on a piece of paper next to it (for verification sake) & your feedback after using it. You can claim it for your family or friends, as long as you have the photo that fits the requirement.

Building an eCommerce website

Hi webmasters, I'm trying to build my own eCommerce site using one of our local website builder. So far I've tried easystore 1 week trial, emailed them but their inbox is full for days. So don't think I'll be subscribing with easystore. I'm in touch with webshaper, prompt replies from them but their upfront 1 year payment kinda held me back.

So I've been wondering;

1) Any other recommended local website builder? Ideally those that don't charge 1 year upfront.

2) I wanted a .com.my, is it recommended to buy the domain myself (from exabytes or shinjiru) or buy through the website builder?

3) I want a professional .com.my email too, should I sign up with Google for Biz or are there better options eg using the one included by some web builders?

4) For roughly 20 to 30 products, how much of storage space & bandwidth is safe to have? Some web builder offers unlimited but some has like 1GB storage & 20GB bandwidth limit.

5) What are the other things I need to look for or take note from a website builder?

All About Shea Butter

Hello everyone! Since there's generally a low level of awareness on shea butter in general throughout Malaysia, I'm getting the ball rolling with this thread on basic info about shea butter. Its close substitutes; cocoa butter & mango butter have been hogging the spotlight for too long already, time to move aside Most of the info I'll be sharing are readily available from a simple Google search. Later on I may be sharing on how to use shea butter for the respective problems. Hope this unpopular butter will help some Malaysian to solve their skin problems especially dry skin & many other health problems as well.

Shea Butter & its Origin

Shea butter is the oily extract from the seeds of Shea (or Karite) tree. It’s a superb moisturizer with amazing healing abilities for many skin related problems. Shea butter has been used in Africa for centuries to remedy various skin & hair problems. It has been gaining global attention just roughly a decade ago & with more research, the list of health benefits & skin condition that shea butter can remedy is increasing.

As a skincare, shea butter is in a unique class of its own. Generally seed oils used for skincare has 2 important fractions; the moisturizing fraction & the healing fraction. What sets shea butter apart from the others is its extraordinarily large healing fraction. Its healing fraction is very rich in nutrients, vitamins (especially A & E) and other phytonutrients required for healing. Other seed oils may have good moisturizing fraction, but their healing fraction is in the range of 1% & below. On the other hand, shea butter’s healing fraction ranges from 5% to 15% depending on its level of refinement.

As for the moisturizing fraction, shea butter contains the same substance as the one naturally produced by our skin glands. Since its substance is the same, shea butter is well tolerated by our skin & usually does not trigger off any allergy reaction or irritates sensitive skin. Hence shea butter has the best of both healing & moisturizing fractions.

Benefits of Shea Butter

Due to its moisturizing fraction, it can remedy:

- Problems related to dry skin; eczema, dermatitis, cracked heels, rashes, peeling etc
- Psoriasis irritations
- Sun burns

Its healing fraction has been known for:

- Anti-inflammatory, hence relieves itches, muscle & joint pain (osteoarthritis)
- Rejuvenate cellular activity, hence reduces scars & wrinkles (premature aging)
- Rejuvenate or protects skin collagen production, thus healthier skin
- Healing stretch marks, especially for pregnant & young mothers
- Rejuvenate scalp & hair follicles, thus restoring hair growth
- Smoothen skin tone (dark spots or skin discoloration)
- UV ray protection, roughly spf 6 (but should NOT be used as primary sun block)
- Soothe skin irritation from insect bites
- Clears nasal congestion aka nose block

Characteristics of Shea Butter

Like most butter, it’s solid at room temperature. Generally beige in color, it may vary depending on its source & level of refinement. It has a nutty & smoky (roasted) smell, not the most pleasant smell a person would expect from a skincare product. However, the smell will fade away after approximately 10 minutes when the shea butter absorbs into the skin. It absorbs quickly & penetrates deep into the epidermal layer without leaving greasy residue like mineral based oils. Hence it does not clog the skin pores.

Shea Butter: Less Is More

Shea butter is refined, mainly to remove its odor, color & improve its texture. But unfortunately, refined shea butter losses some of its healing properties. How much it’ll lose depends on the degree of its refinement. Therefore, 100% pure & unrefined shea butter has the best healing properties. Its moisturizing property would still be there, only the healing properties will be lost through the process of refinement.

Shea Butter Extraction

Traditionally, shea butter is extracted by roasting and pounding the nuts after being sun dried for several days. Then the paste is boiled until the butter rose to the surface. The butter will then be scooped and left to cool or set. This is a very time consuming process normally done by women in Africa to earn a living.

Commercialized chemical extraction method can extract the shea butter faster, cheaper and larger scale with the help of modern technology & machinery. However this method is highly criticized as hexane (or other petroleum solvents), a very common chemical used for extraction, is harmful to human & the resulting shea butter will possess little to no healing ability.

Cold pressing is the latest method of extracting shea butter. This method is basically using a machine to greatly squeeze the oil out of the shea nuts. Practically it's just pressing the fatty oils out from the shea nuts without heat involved, hence the process named cold pressing. The result is shea butter with lighter smell & color but equally nutritive. The smell & color is lighter because no water is used & the shea nuts are not roasted. Hence cold pressed shea butter are best for now in terms of quality.

Why Shea Butter Isn't Popular

Shea trees only grows in Africa, currently it grows wild & uncultivated across 19 countries in Africa (known as the Shea Belt). It takes anywhere from 20 to 50 years before the trees start to bear fruits. Even then, only less than half of the trees will bear fruits. Hence no MNC ever consider cultivating it & thus shea butter remained a cottage industry. Plus 90% of the shea nuts are used as cocoa butter substitute in the production of chocolate as it’s cheaper.

Also different brands of shea butter has inconsistent quality & healing results, so some people may be disappointed after trying it out. Reason for the inconsistency is due to:

- Different extraction methods. Each village, region, country & company has different ways.
- Contamination during production, especially for unrefined ones.
- Post-production factors (mixed with other ingredients until lost its benefits).
- Level of refinement (highly refined shea butter will lose most of its healing ability)
- Source of the shea butter (East Africa or West Africa)

Fairly Traded Shea Butter

Fair trade practices supports small communities in third world countries who are socially and economically marginalized. You can checkout more details of fair trade from various fair trade organizations or just Wikipedia might do. But in a nutshell, fair trade business practice ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, environmental responsibility & greater equity in international trade. Fair traded shea butter is important to ensure that the shea butter is produced hygienically or responsibly as this will severely affect the quality of the shea butter produced. Unhygienic extraction will lead to contaminated & poor quality shea butters.

Shea Butter: West vs East

Most of the shea butters we get are from West Africa (usually Ghana). If it doesn't specifically mention Vitellaria Nilotica in the ingredient list, it's most likely Butyrospermum Parkii aka West African shea butter.

- East African shea butter (usually from Uganda) has more olein, hence it’s softer & more fragrant
- East African has higher absorption rate due to lower saturated fatty acids, hence superior moisturizing ability
- West African has more vitamin A & sterols, hence better healing ability
- West African is more common, hence cheaper

I'm getting closer in completing my paperwork to import stuffs from overseas & resell it here in Malaysia.

Of course the first thing that cross my mind to sell my products via e-commerce as I couldn't afford a physical store for now. But I'm weak in IT & websites, so now my main questions are:

1) What's the most affordable way to own my own website? I definitely do not want "wordpress" or "blogspot" to be anywhere in the URL to keep a professional look.

2) As I'm working full time into this, is it better if I DIY my website e.g. get premium version of Wordpress & build my own website using their templates for now? Or should I hire one of the free lancers from Service Noticeboard subforum? I could use my time to develop other sales channels or improve my fulfillment process instead of this, so that's the opportunity cost here.

3) What's the pro & cons of ".com" vs ".my"? If it helps, I have intentions in the long run to expand overseas (Singapore & Indonesia).

My first step is to own a website to publish product info (educating my prospects) & conduct sales via emails/call enquirers. An example of this is: http://www.terrabot.my/

Once things are stable, second step is to eventually upgrade to a full fledged e-commerce website with shopping cart features & probably having credit card transactions too. An example of this is: http://www.cameralah.com/

To maximize my resources (and reduce wastage), I want something that can be improved or upgraded eventually. Ideally I rather not spend a lot of energy & resources to achieve the first step, and then abandon everything & start from scratch again to achieve the second step.

What other things I should consider before setting up the website? Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Is it possible for members in the same Steam Group to add each other into party without needing to be in each other's friend list??

For instance, Player A & Player B are both online as indicated by the Steam Group. But they're not in each other friend list, how do they party up together?
