Study/ Work in Something you Dislike

hi guys, just curious on the opinion of msians on the topic above. have you guys ever been "required" to follow certain pathways that you know deep in you that you do not want to go?

we have heard of stories students with good results are automatically assigned for medicine by their peers, parents, and the education system (JPA), regardless of whether they want it or not.

we have heard of stories graduates are pressured to work in areas that are not to their liking, even if they had graduated in the same field (who said accounting grads MUST work in accounting firms/ Big 4?)

in some cases, ppl forego their lifelong passion to be in the rat race, sitting in the office, facing the computer screen, instead of doing something they love, such as an environmental conservationist, journalist, etc.

do ppl die regretting what they have NOT done, rather than what they have done?

we only need rice to survive, but now ppl aim to have rice, with a pair golden chopsticks and a jade bowl, sitting glamorously on a stage showing off, for what!?

i am tired of hearing ppl say they are somehow "forced", "pressured", this is "part of msian culture". its your life, your job, not your parents', not your friends', and certainly "culture" does not dictate what career you are going to pursue.
