Medical Mask? Non Medical Mask?

Hi Everyone,

Recently, there has been a boom of people supplying masks, especially from China. I was actually doing some research on mask buying from China since I wanted to buy some for my family (here all very expensive leh, China can get <RM60 for a box of 50pcs) and this is what I learnt, hope it will help you in deciding when you decide to purchase from someone:

- In China, Surgical Masks (the ones that can filter virus and fluids) are regulated as a medical device.
- This means that there legislative requirements on the product in terms of specifications, license to manufacture, quality control and recording of business operations. In addition, if the products are to be sold online, there are now also specific measures that must be taken to offer online sales of medical devices.
(TL:DR - Not everyone can sell surgical masks. They need to have a license and meet very strict requirements)
- There are 3 categories for face masks in the China market:
1. N95 (or KN95 in China) - Can filter 95 percent microorganisms and particles, and are the best at protecting you from airborne viruses just as long as you wear them correctly
2. Surgical Masks - Have a three-layer protection design and are a relatively safe choice to prevent bacteria and viral infections. However, make sure you choose the correct type (医用外科口罩 yīyòng wàikē kǒuzhào). As long as you do not need to make regular visits to the hospital, ordinary medical surgical masks should be sufficient for keeping you safe (doctors wear them, after all).
3. Ordinary Masks - Ordinary masks are for activities like day-to-day cleaning and do not provide adequate filtration of particles and microorganisms. Though considered the most comfortable, ordinary masks are the least effective at protecting you from viruses.
- Both Ordinary Masks and Surgical Masks have a center filter. But according to this website (in Chinese), the center filter piece of your Medical Surgical Masks go through Electret processing, which increases the filtration efficiency of the mask and prevents microorganisms from penetrating through the filter layer.
- All regulated and approved medical use face masks have the production standard printed on the packaging. The production standard of medical protective masks (KN95/N95) is GB19083-2010, while the standard number of medical surgical masks is: YY0469-2011.

A lot of these masks are classified as 民用级别, or 平民用 which means "For normal citizen use". These masks are 1 level below the Surgical Masks in China because, like I said, the medical devices in China needs to hit a certain level of standard, and have to be registered at the official National Medical Products Administration database: www.nmpa.gov.cn.

Here is where you input the registration certificate number to check if its counterfeit or not when it is listed as a medical surgical mask.

Masks which are recognized, have the words "medical surgical mask" (医用外科口罩 yīyòng wàikē kǒuzhào), or "medical protective mask" (医用防护口罩 yīyòng fánghù kǒuzhào). If it does not, then your product is not an officially recommended medical surgical mask.

The example above, for instance, does not contain "surgical" or "protective" and is therefore not recommended for use in this situation.

Hope these information will be helpful in making your face mask purchase. As there is a shortage of masks now, beware of people selling counterfeit masks. If you have any other information to help our fellow LYN Members to make better purchasing decisions, or would like to correct me on some of my statements (I am learning as well ) please post below

Sources:
https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.asp...d3-3fc826e05322
https://www.thebeijinger.com/blog/2020/02/2...sk-real-or-fake

Chinese:
https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/112431984

ROM at Thean Hou Temple 2020

Hi all,

I am getting married this year and for our ROM we wish to do it at Thean Hou Temple (天后宫) I have been doing some research and I keep getting conflicting information: from both websites, calls to the temple and also people that have registered there) so would just like to know if anyone can update me on the process.

I went to JPN JPN Registrationwebsite and this is what they wrote:

Solemnization and Registration of Marriages for Citizen of Malaysia (Non Muslims) by Appointed Assistant Registrar of Marriages at Church / Temple / Communal Association

1.	The applicant appear before a Commissions of Oath to make a declaration/oath in the Part D2 of Form JPN.KC02
2.	Submission of application to any NRD Office for verification of marital status Fee RM20.00
3.	Submission of application to the appointed Assistant Registrar of Marriages at respective church/temple/communal association
4.	Solemnization and Registration by appointed Assistant Registrar of Marriages at respective church/temple/association (according to religious/customs/usage ceremony)
5.	Submission of documents to the respective NRD office within one (1) week from the date of soleminization and registration by Assistant Registrar of Marriages

So from this my understanding is the following:
Step 1: go to Commissions of Oath first and get a marriage declaration
Step 2: Bring MyKad, Photo, Declaration letter in step 1 and a filled in JPN.KC02 bring to JPN for application for verification of marital status letter (pay RM20)
Step 3: Bring the Verification of Marital Status Letter to Thean Hou Temple max 2 months before the ROM date. Here you will book a spot, get your time. (Heard need to pay RM200 here)
Step 4: On the date itself, will need to come at the time, sign ROM
Step 5: ROM to be given back to JPN within 1 week after you sign the ROM

is that it? I have heard peple say need to put up your photo and notice for 21 days. But I called thean hou temple and they said dont need for notice and display if done at thean hou temple. I wish to do my ROM on 10.10.2020 (yeah sure banyak orang) so I also called in hopes of being able to book a spot or something (didn't know what to expect). but they said the slots for booking will only open around June/July because it will only be open 2 months before the actual date. They also said i cannot do anything now as the letter (dont even know what letter. Thean hou lady just kept saying letter) has an expiry date.

So my questions are:
1. What other steps am I missing out? Will need to know cause need to plan take IC photo and all for groom and I
2. Thean Hou Temple will I need to line up on the day itself? At what point do I get my number or date
3. I also read that having a ceremony there, must follow the customs. Can I know what customs? This is because I am Christian and my groom is buddhist.
4. True that I cannot do anything now? Thean Hou gong said to only apply end july.

Hope babes here can help
