Disappointed with the poor organization of ticket sales by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), hundreds of angry soccer fans broke into the Gelora Bung Karno stadium on Sunday.
Fans also vandalized the stadium, venting their anger from having to wait for hours at the box office to get tickets for the Dec. 29 final of the AFF Suzuki Cup between Indonesia and Malaysia.
The fans — some of whom spent the night in long lines at the box office — turned on ticketing officials after being told there were no assurances they would get tickets for the 20,000 seats still available on Sunday despite already having receipts for the tickets. A PSSI official tasked to man a ticket counter at the Gelora Bung Karno was seriously injured after being mobbed by fans.
For the final match — and just like for any other match during the AFF tournament — the PSSI used a redundant ticketing system requiring fans to pay for a receipt that they could exchange for a ticket on Dec. 28. Other than selling tickets at the box office, PSSI also sells ticket online at www.ticketsas.com and www.myticket.co.id for VIP and VVIP seats.
The online system however has not been without its problems. Soon after midnight on Dec. 25, the two websites posted announcements saying that “all VVIP and VIP tickets have been sold out”.
Irate fans have called for heads to roll, including that of PSSI chairman Nurdin Halid, and some are getting behind calls to sue the PSSI.
One of the fans, Andri Saubani, said fans could file a class action suit against the PSSI for defrauding soccer fans. “Why could we not access the online system in the first 30 minutes after it opened? And why were we then informed that the tickets were sold out?” he told The Jakarta Post.
He also complained about scalpers at the box office.
Scalpers sell VIP tickets for Rp 550,000 (US$61), much higher than the official price of Rp 350,000.
Nurdin blamed thugs for the violence. He also warned soccer fans in the country that Jakarta risked being disqualified as host of the second leg of the final.
“I received a warning from the AFF that if security measures failed to control the crowd, Jakarta may not be able to host the second leg of the AFF Cup final,” he was quoted as saying by TVOne.

VIVAnews - Sejumlah aktivis Benteng Demokraasi Rakyat (Bendera) yang tidak puas dengan Pemerintah Malaysia, melakukan aksi unjuk rasa dengan melakukan sweeping terhadap warga asal negeri Jiran di kawasan Jalan Diponegoro, Jakarta Pusat.

Sekitar 30 aktivis Bendera yang melakukan aksi unjuk rasa berusaha menghentikan sejumlah pengendara dan meminta kartu tanda penduduk (KTP) warga yang melintas di depan kantor Bendera, di Jalan Diponegoro no 58, Jakarta Pusat.

Aksi dilakukan mulai sejak pukul 12.00 WIB hingga 13.15 WIB. Aksi yang berlangsung singkat ini tentu tidak menemukan satupun warga Malaysia. Aksi ini dilakukan untuk mengingatkan Pemerintah Indonesia agar berlaku tegas terhadap sejumlah perlakuan Malaysia.

Aktivis Bendera berjanji akan terus melakukan perlawanan terhadap kesewenangan yang dilakukan pemerintah Malaysia. "Budaya kita selalu diakui. Ini sudah tidak menghargai dan harus dilawan," ujar Koordinator aksi, Mas'ud M Sidik, Selasa 8 September 2009.

Selain itu mereka juga berjanji akan terjun ke perbatasan untuk merespon persoalan dengan pemerintah Malaysia.

Akibat aksi ini, petugas mengalihakan arus lalu lintas di kawasan tersebut ke Jalan Surabaya dan Jalan Cikini.

Sejumlah pengguna jalan mengeluhkan aksi tersebut. Salah satu pengendara Toyota Avanza hitam bernama Amir, mengaku sangat kesal dengan aksi tersebut. "KTP saya ada di tas dan banyak berharga. Saya khawatir," ujar Amir.

Pengguna jalan yang mengeluhkan aksi ini adalah pengendara motor bernama Syamsul. "Kalau mau, demo saja kedutaannya. Jangan orang distop kaya gini,"

Semarang (ANTARA News) - Diponegoro Univerrsity (Undip), one of Indonesia`s leading institutes of higher learning, has stopped admitting Malaysian students for the 2009-2010 academic year as an expression of "nationalism," the varsity`s chief said.

"We have done it as a concrete expression of our sense of nationalism," Undip Rector Prof Susilo Wibowo said here Tuesday after attending a ceremony marking the induction of new students at the Undip campus at Tembalang, Semarang.

He said Malaysia had often and in various ways been insensitive to the Indonesian nation`s self-respect and self-esteem, including by its claims on products of indigenous Indonesian culture.

Existing cooperation programs with Malaysian parties would be continued until they had expired but Undip would not accept Malaysian students for the 2000-2010 academic year, he said.

Meanwhile, Undip public relations chief Agus Naryoso said Malaysian students who had enrolled in previous years could continue their studies at Undip but this year there would be no new first-year students from Malaysia.

He said for the present academic year, Undip had admitted a total of 9,151 new students, including 175 for its doctorate program, 1,298 for its magistrate program , 1,154 for its specialist program and 222 for its professional program.

Most of the new enrollments, 6,087 students, had been accepted for master`s degree programs, he said.(*)
