[help] ubuntu 11.10 with nvidia gc

hey guys, i need some help in getting my graphic card to work on my asus lappy.
currently, the lappy is installed with nvidia driver 280.13. whenever i watch a movie, the color went out of tune, but normal website browsing is fine
if i downgrade the driver to version 173, the color is back to normal but will cause lagging when i browse certain website.
also, even if i have driver installed, it says, "the driver is activated but not currently in use", but i'm pretty sure the driver is in use

here's my lappy's spec
Intel C2D T7300 @ 2.00GHz
4GB RAM
Nvidia 8600M GS

hi all, i would like to ask what is the method used for those flight comparison site such as:
http://www.skyscanner.net/
http://www.kayak.com/flights

do they actually retrieve info from the airlines' databases?
i've googled around, but i couldn't find any sample codes for such a site

i wanna check for the 1st text box (t1) that user has input 6 characters before jumping to the second,
so if the user input less that 6 chars, chkL() function will alert the user and set the focus back to t1,
but somehow the snippets of my codes above is not working.

instead of having the focus falls back to t1, focus goes to t2.

is there anything wrong with my codes?
