Employee Resign without 1 month notice!

Hi everyone,

Recently my friend just confided in me as he was disappointed with his employee who just tendered his resignation. The employee stated in his resignation letter that his last day would be on the 31st of January while his letter was dated 20th January.

As I understand according to labour law, the employee should serve a 1 month notice from the date of the resignation letter but this employee insist that the company let him go on the 31st.

So my friend consulted the local labour office and was told to deduct the employee's salary as compensation since he wants to leave before the 1 month notice period. The labour officer told my friend to deduct 21 days from the salary as compensation. But when my friend told his employee about the deduction (which left the employee with only a few hundred ringgit), the employee quickly told my friend that he wants to serve the 1 month notice.

Well, the boss rejected and told him to follow the date he stated in his own resignation letter. Then, the employee went around the office telling everyone that the boss is heartless and like to "kira" even small details with employee. The guy also said he choose to resign before CNY to avoid the company having to pay him bonus cos he think for the company. Before he tendered his letter, my friend actually overheard this guy telling another colleague that he's very fed-up with the company and can't wait to leave.

Then, to add salt to the wound, this employee himself called labour office to ask why the boss wants to deduct 21 days. He was told by labour office the boss should deduct 19 days instead of 21 days! So he again went around the office telling other employees that the boss "cheat" him and not being fair to him.

The boss then checked with the same labour office consultant again and the labour officer realized her mistake (so it's 19 days instead of 21 days!) and apologised. Oh my god! How could the labour office gave such wrong information?

Now all the employees, after listening to that employee, are pointing fingers at the boss because of the wrong information given by one labour officer!
They even cursed him and said he's a bad boss.

I feel sad for him, as he has been a good employer. He never scold when the employee is late for work everyday, never perform some task give to him and he always made mistakes in his tasks.

Sorry for the long story. But what do you think my friend can do to save the situation? I mean, how can he explain that the labour office gave wrong information? Will anyone believe him? I'm trying to get some opinions to help my friend.

How much is shoplot rental @ Tesco penang?

Hi...

Does anyone have any idea how much does it cost to rent a permanent shoplot in Tesco Penang(E-gate)?

I've tried calling Tesco Penang to ask about the rental but was asked to call their HQ in KL, which I did but they too are not sure how much is the rental. Instead they asked me to apply directly but I really need to know what's the price range.

Hi everyone,

If you are in a partnership business, either in registered partnership or Sdn Bhd, how does the partners split their commission or profits?

Do they split according to how much capital each partner invests?
How frequent do people distribute the commission or profits from the business?

In a scenario of 3 partners, where 2 partners are actively working for the business while the other is not, the working partners will be paid monthly salary. How do they determine the working partner's salary?

Recently My relative approached me to start a partnership company specialising in sales and marketing.
He already has an existing company doing servicing for about 8 years while I have 10 years experience in sales.

He's suggesting to partner with me to start up another company to develop sales and marketing.
