LCD ratio

I am currently using a 17" CRT and planning to change to 19"-21" LCD soon. My budget is about RM 500++. I want to ask what is the most acceptable aspect ratio for pc gaming on LCD, is it 4:3 or 16:9 or 16:10 which has the most native ratio support from games? I don't want to have letter boxed or stretched games which is ugly. Also what is the recommended resolution for an ATI 4850 512 MB gc?

Thanks a lot!

PCIe 16X

There is now three standard for PCIe 16x standard which is 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. PCIe 1.x supports up to 8gb/sec transfer rate and PCIe 2.0 supports up to 16gb/sec for GPU. The question is that is all this bandwidth usable with the current available GPU's? I think there is no GPU that can max even the 8gb/sec transfer rate? Even SLI boards runs at 8gb/sec on two PCIe slot. Or should we just save money and buy motherboards with PCIe 1.x if we plan to buy only a single card? Any disadvantage if we use PCIe 1.x? Thanks for the answer.
