Gmail as SMTP?

hi there, im doing my FYP, which requires a function to send notification email to user. im using php and want to use mail() function. however, when i tried to install some smtp sever such as postcast,etc, i coundnt send email from my site. im living in the campus and it seems that they block the port.

that why i have to choose Gmail as SMTP server. however, i dont know how to config for the authentication function? coz gmail requires user n password (i dont know where to put it, in php code or php.ini, and how the code is).

Pls give me a hint.

hi, do you guy know is there any web service that provide SMTP server ? of course im looking for free one, for my final year prj. one of the functions in my website is to send the notification email to the subcriber ( which can be done by php mail() and SMTP server). but so far, only paid one provide this service.

do you know any free host that provide SMTP? or any sugestion for the issue above?

i cannot access www.meebo.com inside my campus since its blocked. however, i can surf it using web proxy. but using PHP, CGI web proxy, i cannot run meebo, which is based on ajax. last time, i used one ajax based web proxy for meebo. but now its down. is there any one you know?

How to Format External Harddisk?

hi there,
i have some problem with my external HDD. my external Hdd is the seagate 40Gb + full board casing(good case).
i have been used it so far so good, recently, when i copy movie and gave it to my gf, it went wrong.
MS window cannot detect it when i plug in. actually, there is still an icon (safely remove icon) appear when i plug the hdd, but Explorer didnt show any Hdd.
i think there maybe corruption or virus or whatever. i just want to format is as the first try.
Do you have any idea how to format it?

International WAN down - Slow internet access

Recently, you may have faced some problem when trying to access some websites. some cannot be accessed, some are very slow. one of the reason behind is the spoil of international WAN between some countries with HongKong and Taiwan, due to the earthquake occured yesterday in Taiwan.
Just now, i cannot access some of website like gmail, ebay.com and most of website based in hongkong and my friend cannot access our forum from other country.

hi guys,
i have a DVD system at home. panasonic SC DT310. i bought it 3 years ago. now it has one problem.
each time i power on the system, i receive the line: " DVD reset" then "f61" then power off.
i think no nomore waranty so i think i have to repair it by myself or bring it to the shop.
do you guys have any ideas about this problem?

how to know hdd got bad sector?

hi everybody,
do you know how to test and check whether hdd got bad sector or not?
i just bought a new extenal hdd, after format, i can see it lost 65mb ( used 65mb) howver, i havent install or save any data
is it bad sector?
