Can someone teach me how to use threads in GUI please?

Here's a simple GUI program that i wrote:

anyone experiences constant lag spikes on Kalimdor(Asia)? since yesterday, i cant even play a proper match with these lag spikes . i never encounter such problem before and i can still play my sc2 on SEA and NA fine without any lag. anyone knows what could be the reason that causes the problem? FYI, my internet speed is 1.5mbps and i didnt download anything or run other application while im playing.
