So my desktop is dead : https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry82422723

I'm in kelana jaya, so anywhere in PJ that can fix would be good. I've read a lot of bad stories here on lyn about bad shops looking to scam, so I'm hoping someone can recommend a reliable shop.

Shutdowns and failures to POST

Start today. PC shut down for no reason and wouldn't restart. The fans would whirr for a couple seconds then stop for a while. Then whirr again then stop, then whirr and stop. Keep going like this.

I unplugged it and left it a while, then turn on again and it booted up into windows ok. It worked for 10 minutes or so then restarted. Boot into windows again ok, again ok for 10 minutes then restarted again. This time wouldn't post again like above.

No new hardware, case is quite clear of dust. Not sure where to start. Any suggestions would be welcome. Or even if anyone can recommend a good repair place in pj that isnt going to scam me.

Need PS3 repairs near kelana jaya

My PS3 has been having a rather annoying issue lately. I turn it on and it runs for a couple minutes then beeps three times and shuts itself down. I restart it and it will run for about half an hour then do the same thing. On the 3rd attempt it will run just fine for as long as I want to use it.

I'm not too sure what could be the cause of it, although bad soldering comes to mind seeing that it needs to "warm up" to become stable.

So I'm looking to find someone who can fix it for me and has a shop somewhere near kelana jaya so I don't have to go too far. If this is you, please PM me with what sort of fees you have so I can get a ball-park figure before I commit to getting it fixed (instead of just throwing it out). I know you can't be sure until you see it, but just ballpark so I've got an idea how much to keep aside from my pay.

RM3000-RM3500 to upgrade my desktop

I'm looking to upgrade my desktop PC, with a budget of between 3k and 3.5k, and I'm hoping to get some advice.

As the topic suggests, this is an upgrade to an existing system, so I've got some parts that should come across to a new system just fine. I outline below what I have, and what I'd like, and I'm hoping you educated folk can help me fill in the missing pieces.

What I have that I can reuse:
2x500gb sata drives I can throw in for storage.
nvidia 560ti I can use for GPU. It may be a bit old now, but I can upgrade it further at a later date. For now it should more than suffice for most uses.
midi Case and 650w PSU. I'm willing to ditch both, however, for a smaller case and more powerful PSU if required

What I want:
16gb RAM, please advise on type/brand
200-256gb SSD for primary drive, please advise type and brand
CPU, intel only. Something from the i7 range (one of the most recent generation).
Motherboard to match CPU. Something with built in wireless *if its available*.
Appropriate PSU if 650w isn't going to be sufficient.

I'll only be running one monitor for the foreseeable future (which I've already got), and the primary purpose of the machine is graphic work and gaming. I don't mind buying hardware I can overclock as I'm confident enough to install custom watercooling down the track if I feel the need to bump up the clock down the track (I've installed WC in a previous system a number of years ago, its not hard, just need to make sure its all on tight!).

Along with whatever recommendations are made, could you tell me where to get the parts and include a link to the appropriate price list (if available). I'm in PJ, but I don't mind going to Lowyat to buy, not like its far. If you're a dealer, could you also tell me what you would want to install all the parts for me (and check that it posts), as I'm a bit lazy when it comes to pc building these days.

Fibre and dedicated (dynamic) IP address

Does anyone know if Maxis, Unifi or the Astro IPTV package give me my own IP address (as seen from the rest of the world)? Doesn't need to be static, just dynamic like regular streamyx is.

I've read previously that Unifi uses a system that makes it look like your IP is the same as many other unifi users (proxy or something I guess), which makes downloading from sites like rapidshare impossible as there's a one file per IP system in place and with how many hundreds of users coming from the one IP, would I ever get to download a file?

This also makes it difficult in many instances if another user of unifi is a jerk and gets IP banned from websites - it breaks the site for ALL the unifi users in that area.

I'm currently using streamyx and I'm cautious about upgrading to fibre as I don't want to get stuck with a sub-par service just because it makes it easier/cheaper for the telco. I can get the three services I mentioned previously where I live, and I'm not too concerned which I end up with but if I reboot my modem, I want a new IP every time instead of sharing with whoever else lives in the same block of condos as I do.

I'm not looking for guesses, I'd like some hard facts on this if anyone can provide. The telcos don't make it easy to find out as no one I've ever talked to even knows what I'm talking about, too technical for sales people / phone support.

Harvey norman TV extended warranty

Hi folks,

I'm looking for the terms for the extended warranty that harvey norman offers on its TVs.

I've had to send my TV back 3 times now to be repaired for the same problem (sound occasionally cuts out and there's a constant buzzing) and I'm wanting to find out if I'm entitled to a replacement as their failure to actually fix anything is beyond a joke. Harvey norman, of course, isn't very helpful - they just keep telling me they'll send someone out to pick it up and repair it *again* - not that I have any trust they'll actually succeed in fixing it this time around either.

Considering this started in december and has continued until now, I'm sure my frustration is understandable.

Where to buy Sous Vide oven?

I'm looking to buy a sous vide oven (new, not used) somewhere around KL/PJ. I'm not entirely sure what places might carry something like this, and while it would be easy enough to build something that could get the job done, I'd much rather have a single enclosed unit to save on space and mess on my counter top.

http://www.sousvidesupreme.com/

That link will show you the sort of thing I'm looking for. It doesn't have to be that particular brand, but I'd be interested anything that'll do the job and isn't so ridiculously priced to the point where I might as well just buy online and pay the over-the-top shipping. It's for home use, not commercial, so any alternatives that are specifically for commercial only are probably overkill.

So, can anyone help me track down this piece of obscure (for here) gear?

Problem with MAS refund, can anyone help?

As the title suggests, I'm having issues with MAS at the moment over the refund for a ticket. I went to the office in KL Sentral 4th of August and completed the paperwork for the refund but I'm still waiting over 3 months later. Every time I call I'm told that it is 'still processing' and I should 'check my statement at the end of the month'.

I can get no more information from the representatives than this and it is really starting to annoy me. I'm hoping someone here on LYN might be able to help out, even if its only in a small way.

I've been trying to find contact details for Dr Amin Khan, Head of the Network and Revenue Management Division in Malaysia Airlines, so I can ask directly exactly what the story here is. The money came out of my credit card fast enough, I don't see why it is so hard to put it back in there.

If anyone can advise me on how to get hold of someone useful who can get this matter resolved, please PM me or post in this thread, I'm quite at the point of desperation.

Looking for a print company

Not entirely sure this is the place for it, but it seems to be the most on-topic - Mods, please move it if I've placed it in the wrong spot.

As the title says I'm looking for a print company who can handle a large range of different print jobs. Primarily it would be for printing books (hardcover & softcover), although there would be some jobs for flyers, magazines, inserts and other bits and pieces too.

I've tried contacting two companies here in Malaysia so far but they seem totally uninterested in taking on new business - to the point where I get completely ignored. The companies (Skyline Print Press and Multidynamics) were recommended to me, but have such atrocious customer relations abilities I'm now looking elsewhere.

Currently I get most of my work printed up in Taiwan and shipped to Australia. Any local company would need to be equipped to arrange for shipping to Australia as well (currently by sea freight as its the most economical when factoring in the weight of a few thousand books).

Does anyone here work for, or can anyone recommend, a reliable print house that I could do business with?

Preferably something like the product here:
http://www.pulsat.com/products/Home-Plug-N...in-Pack%29.html

Only thing is I'm not too sure what's good and available locally. Can anyone recommend what to get and where from?

Streamyx Riger DB108-WL - Wireless freezes

Broadband provider
ISP/package: streamyx 4mb combo
Location: kelana jaya
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: yes

Personal equipment
Modem: Riger DB108-WL
Router: see above
Firewall used: see above (if it has one at all!)

Problem details
First occurence of problem: few days after start of use
Problem frequency: frequent (daily when I use this modem)
Problem description: After getting upgraded it seems I've had no end of problems, this being one of them. What occurs is that the wifi freezes. Any computers that connect via the wifi with this modem can no longer surf, however the computer that is connected using the one lan port in the modem can continue just fine. Rebooting the modem fixes this, but it seems to occur very often and rather bugs the heck outa me as I'm constantly being asked to reboot it so the others can connect. To resolve it until now I've been using a d-link, but to test a theory about my line quality/stability I'm trying out the Riger once more. What I want to know is if this is a common problem with this piece of hardware, or whether there may be a simple fix (besides take it to a tm point and get it replaced).
