How “omnipotent” NSA hackers hide for 14 years

Wow, computer security is scary stuff, but I never feel as insecure as of now

QUOTE

Taken together, the accomplishments led Kaspersky researchers to conclude that Equation Group is probably the most sophisticated computer attack group in the world, with technical skill and resources that rival the groups that developed Stuxnet and the Flame espionage malware.

"It seems to me Equation Group are the ones with the coolest toys," Costin Raiu, director of Kaspersky Lab's global research and analysis team, told Ars. "Every now and then they share them with the Stuxnet group and the Flame group, but they are originally available only to the Equation Group people. Equation Group are definitely the masters, and they are giving the others, maybe, bread crumbs. From time to time they are giving them some goodies to integrate into Stuxnet and Flame."

(Source : How omnipotent hacker tied to NSA evade detection for 14 years )

...and if you feel Malaysia is safe, or not affected by this Equation group..

QUOTE

"How do I stop this virus infecting my computer?" someone with the username dkk wrote in a forum in July 2010. "You insert the USB thumbdrive, the computer gets infected. Even when the patches has been applied, and autorun and autoplay has been turned off. The weirdest thing of all is, there is in fact no autorun.inf on the root of the infected USB drive."

Dkk's request was posted to a forum on Lowyat.net, which bills itself as Malaysia's largest online community. It makes sense that dkk's post appeared on a site frequented by Malaysians. According to Kaspersky, Malaysia was one of 30 countries whose residents are known to have been infected by Equation Group malware.

(Source : How do I stop this virus )

Habislah...

Canon 5D MKIII vs Olympus OM D : Which one ?

Hi fellow Lowyat members

I am going to purchase a new camera for my hobby. The thing is..I am torn apart by the choice between Canon 5D Mark III and Olympus OM D

As for my background, I am just a hobbyist (not making any money from photography ) . I have and like to shoot motosports, fashion shows, weddings, urban landscape and street photography.
My previous gears are Canon 400D, 18-55 Kit Lens, 50 f1.8 and EF 70-300 F4.5-5.6 Do IS USM. All have been sold except the DO lens.

My own opinions on the kit I want to purchase :-

Canon 5D III + EF 24-70 II + EX 270 II (Speedlite)
1) Cons : Very pricey! (big one but still within my budget though)
2) Pros : Image quality among the best in industry for general photography ( One of main pros for me )
3) Pros : Can be adapted to most type of photography, in case later I want to try them.
4) Cons : Rather heavy and huge ( One of big cons for me )
5) Cons (..and could be pros too ) : Looks expensive..not exactly feel comfortable to tote around some less secure area. Pros is because easier to get models to pose
6) Pros : I already got a tele zoom for it
7) Cons : Might ended up at home most of the time....

Olympus OM D + Panasonic Lumix G 12-35mm F2.8 + Panasonic Lumix G X 35-100 F2.8
1) Pros : Way way cheaper than Canon option above
2) Pros : Way lighter and smaller
3) Cons : The battery capacity is small..only around 300-400 shots. I guess I can get battery grip attached all the time for double the capacity while still stay true to #1 and #2 (but still less than 5dIII)
4) Cons : Image quality while very good...still not quite FF standard from what I heard.
5) Cons : Harder to get shallow DOF when desired.
6) Cons : Continuous AF very unreliable ( huge compared to 5dMIII)
7) Pros : I might end up always having it with me, and due to its small size, non-photog gear discerning crowds will discount it as P&S or bridge cam at best

The purchase is for long term. I can't afford to get both systems, or switch on a whim.

My question is, for people who have used or owned both, other than listed above...will I miss anything if I am going OM D m43 route ? Anything that makes you feel you should have purchased 5D MIII instead ?
How about ergonomics/actual use ? Anything about either camera above that makes you feel frustrated/miss the shot that otherwise not an issue with other ?
