Hi Guys,

would like to know how is the RapidKL service in Petaling Jaya?
I need to get to 1U before 930 am this Sunday. From RapidKL website, there is a bus from Kelana Jaya to 1U starting from 6 am.

Is RapidKL timing can be trusted?

504 Gateway Timeout

Hi,

For this pass fews day, I will occasionally experience "504 Gateway Timeout" which lasted for a 2-3 minutes.

Lastest is around 14th July 2011, 1015+ (not sure the exact timing)

Not sure if this is a problem with the forum or not.

Slow Stored Proc Performance

Hi Guys,

Recently I encountered an issue with one of my stored proc.
The stored proc will receive 2 date as parameter (dateFrom and dateTo) to get those record between the date range.

The stored proc give a very good response (less than 1 sec) when I put the parameter as 06/08/2010 - 18/08/2010 (17 record selected).
But when I put the parameter as 07/08/2010 - 18/08/2010, it took around 5 seconds to return the result (15 record selected).

What puzzling is that, if the pass in parameter is larger than 07/08/2010..the performance become slow.
Any date before that give a very good response.

I have already rule out parameter sniffing as a reason. (using Option recompile still give out the same timing.)

I try to check using the IO statistic and for date less than 07/08/2010..it have a very low logical read (10+) whereas if more than 07/08/2010 it give a high logical read (3 million+)

What could be the reason for this?

Limit user login in web apps

Hi Guys,

I need some help on implementing a licensing features in a web application.
According to user requirement, the system does not allow for multiple login, meaning the same user account cannot login to the system at the same time twice using 2 browser.
Besides that, the system should only allow a maximum of 50 users online at one time.

Does anyone have any idea on how to implement this?

Currently, what i have done is maintain a login user list using the application state and to use the window.onunload on the master page to open another a checker window. this checker window will be used to check if the parent is still open or not. if it is still open, the checker window will self close. but if it is not open, i will popup the logout screen to initialize a logout.

Problem is when using window.open in window.onunload event will trigger the pop up blocker in IE. Once the pop up is blocked, my code is failed.

Is there anyway to overcome this?
A colleague suggest using Dhtml popup opener. But can dhtml used to checked if the parent is still open? cause from my understanding, the popup is just a part of the parent window which means when parent window close, it will be closed as well so unable to check if parent window is still there?

How does forum like lowyat implement this as i can see that it also maintain a list of active user?

Please help. Been stuck on this for the pass week.

Java Servlet Flush excel as read only file

Currently I flush out an excel file with the code below.
Is it possible to make this file read only? Basically i got want the user to accidentally changed the excel content.

An old man lived alone in the country. He wanted to dig his potato garden but it was very hard work as the ground was hard. His only son, Ernie, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote

Playing Video on TV through Notebook

Oxford dictionary new word

There are possible plans underway to apply to the Oxford and Webster to include a new word for their 2009 dictionary:

badawi [baa-daa-wee] (Transitive verb/Noun/Adjective): To start something full of promise but end in disappointment, failure and/or disaster.

Eg:

'I'm trusting you to perform this task well; don't do a badawi, ok?'

'Whatever I do, I will always find a way to badawise it.'

France badawied their Euro 2008 campaign. England pre-badawied theirs, while Italy were guilty of over-badawification.

Currently im ask to convert a web application i English to support multi lingua using JSTL.
my problem is that, there is alot of alert message inside a common .js file.
and i cannot used <fmt:message key="message1"/> inside the .js to get the message from the application resource file.

Strange behaviour with datarow insertAt

When i try to assign a value ComboBox.SelectedValue, i get the follwing
message.

Unhandled Exception: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument
was out of the range of valid values.
Parameter name: '-2147483648' is not a valid value for 'index'.

Error will occur when all the following condition is true

1. call Datatable.Rows.InsertAt(newRow,0) AND
2. there is more than 10 rows in datatable AND
3. assign the ComboBox.SelectedValue to value which is belongs to second
record (which is next record of newly added record).

Anybody know why?

Does anyone know how to show the page number to page 2 instead of page 1?

i have a cross tab which will over flow to be fit in one page.
my customer want it to be show as page 2 instead of page 1.

so the senario is like this.
My report have 2 pages. but each pages is too long to be fit in one paper so it is split into 4 paper (2 paper per pages)
so what i wan to show is page 1,2,3,4.
