SHAH ALAM - MCA has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to resign from his post as Finance Minister to give his full focus on the nation's administration.

The party's central information chief, Mike Chong Yew Chuan said Anwar must appoint a second Finance Minister who could focus on the economic issues, so that Anwar would be able to give his full focus on national matters.

“The new appointment for this post would improve our nation’s economy and generate more job opportunities.

High Court dismisses Najib's

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has dismissed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s bid to set aside the Mareva injunction on assets worth USD681mil linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and one of its subsidiaries.

The ruling was made by High Court judge Atan Mustaffa Yussof Ahmad on Wednesday (Sept 27).

A Mareva injunction is an order stopping a party from disposing of any property while waiting for the resolution of legal action.

The injunction also limited Najib to withdrawals of not more than RM100,000 a month for his living expenses and legal fees, and he would have to obtain written permission from 1MDB and Global Diversified counsels if he needed funds in excess of the total.

It also stated that Najib would need to file a written disclosure to 1MDB and Global Diversified regarding his assets of up to USD681mil, whether in Malaysia or abroad, in his own name or not and solely or jointly owned by other defendants.

On Feb 8 last year, the court allowed the ex-parte application for a Mareva injunction by 1MDB and Global Diversified Investment Company Limited (formerly known as 1MDB Global Investments Limited).

Both are the first and second plaintiffs in the 1MDB lawsuit against Najib and several other individuals.

GOMBAK - [DIKEMAS KINI] Perjalanan pulang lima sahabat dari bercuti di Genting Highlands berakhir tragedi apabila kereta dinaiki hilang kawalan sebelum terbabas mengakibatkan salah seorang daripada mereka maut dalam kejadian di Kilometer 25.8 Lebuhraya Karak di sini pada Jumaat.

Timbalan Ketua Polis Daerah Gombak, Superintenden Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir berkata, laporan berkaitan kejadian diterima pihaknya kira-kira jam 5 pagi.

Menurut beliau, difahamkan kesemua mangsa terlibat berasal dari Negeri Sembilan.

"Siasatan mendapati kereta jenis Proton Saga dinaiki lima lelaki warga tempatan berumur antara 17 hingga 22 tahun itu dari arah Genting Highlands menuju ke Kuala Lumpur.

"Semasa melalui jalan berselekoh menuruni bukit kenderaan yang dinaiki kesemua mangsa telah hilang kawalan sebelum terbabas," katanya menerusi kenyataan pada Sabtu.

Katanya, salah seorang penumpang mengalami kecederaan parah di bahagian kepada dan disahkan maut di lokasi kejadian.

"Mangsa yang maut merupakan lelaki berumur 22 tahun disahkan meninggal dunia oleh petugas Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) dan mayatnya dibawa ke Jabatan Forensik Hospital Selayang untuk tindakan lanjut.

"Empat lagi mangsa mengalami kecederaan ringan dan dibawa ke Hospital Selayang untuk rawatan lanjut," katanya.

Menurutnya, kes disiasat mengikut di bawah Seksyen 41 (1) Akta Pengangkutan Jalan 1987.

"Orang ramai yang melihat atau mempunyai maklumat mengenai kejadian ini diminta tampil membantu siasatan.

"Saksi kejadian diminta menghubungi Pegawai Penyiasat Trafik, Inspektor Mohd Norazlan Noorudin di talian 019-7974466 atau Bilik Gerakan Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Gombak di talian 03-61262222," katanya.

PUTRAJAYA: The presence of several ministers at a hotel here on Friday (March 25) has sparked all sorts of speculation.

More interestingly, the ministers who were present are from Umno.

Spotted at the hotel were Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Sadique and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

Also seen were Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican.

It is learnt the ministers arrived as early as 8am and left around 9.50am.

When approached, the ministers declined to talk.

"I'm here for breakfast," said Annuar.

Shahidan also did not say why he was at the hotel.

"I came for only two minutes and now I am going for the Cabinet meeting," he said.

Aside from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, there are 10 Umno ministers in the current Cabinet.

Others are Senior Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.

The just-concluded Umno general assembly saw delegates pushing for national polls to be held soon.

Following the government's failure to pass the amendments to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2021 (Sosma) enforcement period on Wednesday, Umno leaders have called for the memorandum of understanding between the government and the Opposition to be revoked and a general election be called to elect a new government.

The government had signed the MOU with Pakatan Harapan last year to bring reforms and political stability to the nation amid the pandemic.

A provision in the document also states that Pakatan agreed to support or remain neutral in any motion submitted by the government.

The current term of Parliament expires in June 2023.

The Highland Towers collapse occurred on 11 December 1993 in Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Tower Block 1 collapsed from a major landslide caused by heavy rains that burst diversion pipes.[1] The Highland Towers consisted of three 13-story buildings or "blocks". The collapse of Block 1 resulted in 48 deaths.[2] Residents of the other two blocks and neighbouring establishments were evacuated due to safety concerns.

The Highland Towers complex was built in phases between 1974 and 1982. It was constructed at the western base of a steeply sloped hill, terraced extensively in the early 1980s. Block 1 was the southernmost building, Block 2 was built north-northwest of Block 1, and Block 3 was built west of Block 2. The towers were home to affluent middle-class families; a sizeable percentage of the residents were expatriates.
