Anak alami pendarahan otak, wanita mohon bantu buru BMW kelabu gelap.

Saya adalah ibu bayi berusia 4 bulan Aqasha Alhaq: anak saya tercampak ke tengah jalan dek kerana sebuah kereta BMW kelabu gelap Plate RS (no tak perasan) yang masuk dari laluan paling kiri terus mencelah ke depan kereta kami (Inspira putih).

Kereta tersebut terus lari selepas menghimpit kami & kereta kami berpusing beberapa kali sebelum melanggar penghadang jalan sebelah kiri.

“Punca kemalangan adalah disebabkan mengubah haluan yang mana kereta BMW yang sebelum itu berada di lorong tengah secara tiba-tiba masuk ke lorong kanan di hadapan laluan Proton Inspira,” katanya ketika dihubungi di sini hari ini.

Cadang guna kaedah Islam rawat Covid-19

BACHOK –Selain rawatan moden, perubatan secara Islam juga boleh digunakan sebagai salah satu alternatif untuk dipertimbangkan oleh kerajaan bagi merawat pesakit Covid-19.

Saranan berkenaan disuarakan Timbalan Exco Kerajaan Tempatan dan Kesihatan Negeri Kelantan, Hilmi Abdullah yang juga Perawat Persatuan Perubatan Islam DarusSalam Malaysia (DarusSalam).

Hilmi berkata, cadangan tersebut dilontarkan untuk bersama-sama membantu Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) menangani serta merawat pesakit Covid-19 di negara ini yang semakin bertambah.

“Sebagaimana terkandung di dalam Al-Quran. Al-Quran adalah mukjizat dan boleh menjadi penyembuh kepada penyakit. Jadi selain menggunakan perawatan moden, kita juga boleh cuba guna kaedah perubatan secara Islam.

“Pada pandangan kami, dengan kebenaran dan pemantauan ketat oleh KKM pesakit Covid-19 terpilih ini akan diberikan air penawar yang dibacakan ayat-ayat rukyah oleh perawat kami dan dimandikan dengan air bidara untuk tempoh dan pada waktu tertentu. Perbandingan perlu dibuat secara saintifik kesan sebelum, semasa dan selepas rawatan.

“Dengan bantuan pakar-pakar KKM, kajian boleh dijalankan untuk menilai tahap perubahan yang ditunjukkan pesakit terbabit. Ubat tetap pesakit kena makan,” katanya kepada Sinar Harian pada Isnin.

Terdahulu beliau merasmikan Konvokesyen DarusSalam Ijazah Perubatan Ijazah Perubatan Islam kepada 59 graduan Generasi Dua Kelantan.

Hadir sama, Pengerusi DarusSalam Malaysia, Abd Manaf Jusoh dan Ketua Perawat Pusat Rawatan Islam DarusSalam Kelantan, Ibrahim Saad.

Hilmi berkata, mungkin sekali pandang cara ini tidak banyak membantu menangani penularan Covid-19 di negara ini, namun katanya tidak salah mencuba kerana gabungan perubatan Islam dan moden ini ada kalanya dapat merawat sesuatu penyakit yang tidak terjangkau di fikiran.

Lagipun katanya, jika dibenarkan perawat DarusSalam bersedia untuk bekerjasama dengan KKM dan para saintis mengikut prosedur operasi standard (SOP) digariskan kerajaan.

Sementara itu, Abdul Manaf berkata, ketika rawatan DarusSalam mestilah selari dengan SOP semasa dalam memutuskan rangkaian pandemik Covid-19 yang melanda negara.

Pusat Perubatan Islam DarusSalam diasaskan oleh Allahyarham Datuk Ismail Kamus dan kini mempunyai beberapa cawangan pusat rawatan di seluruh negara iaitu Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, Johor, Negeri Sembilan.

KUALA LUMPUR: In the ongoing debate about bicycle lanes in Malaysia, our hot and humid climate has often been cited as a major reason for the failure of our cycling iniatives.

On Saturday, NST Online conducted a poll on social media, asking Malaysians whether they were interested in using a new bicycle lane linking the suburbs of Wangsa Maju to the KLCC area which City Hall said would be completed in a year.

A total of 2,400 of our readers answered the poll, and when voting closed, it was revealed that 50.2 per cent said they would not use the bicycle lane, while 49.8 per cent said they were interested.

As the issue unfolded, there were many comments on the articles suggesting why cycling is still not a common practice in Malaysia. Safety and poor infrastructure as well as dangerous drivers and narrow Kuala Lumpur roads were cited as some reasons why Malaysians don't cycle to work, and why cycling lanes were not suited for Malaysia. Yet, there were other naysayers who said that the Malaysian climate was not conducive to cycling, and any effort would be doomed to fail.

Malaysia was also compared to the Netherlands, which has a cooler climate and said to be more conducive to cycling. Is the weather the biggest impediment to cycling?

Not for Peter Van Der Lans, an avid cyclist who has cycled extensively in this region. Lans was of the opinion that mindset, rather than the weather, was a bigger reason Malaysians don't cycle.

"Malaysia is extremely car oriented. More than anywhere else in the world. Take for example, Penang. People say you can't have bicyle lanes, bus lanes or tram lanes because the streets are too small. The streets are not too small. If you look at the Hague, for example, the government simply made the lanes," he said.

Lans said in Malaysia, motorised traffic dominated the roads at the expense of other modes of transport.

"Malaysians think complete and totally in terms of cars. In Penang, they've built a bicycle path along the east coast of the island. It sounds fantastic. In a way, it is a very nice bicycle lane. But what's the problem? At some point, they put poles there. You have to get off your bicycle, lift the bicycle to the other side. Why? Well, the poles are there because of the motorcycles. They will use the lane if you don't put the poles in there. In the end, it is just the same as no bicycle lane. So one way or the other, it doesn't work," he said.

He said that the weather should not stop Malaysians from cycling. Dutch schoolchildren who cycled to school faced more challenges from the weather compared to Malaysians.

"Is cycling viable in this country? Absolutely!," he said.

"In Holland, it's much colder. When I was a kid, I cycled to school, and it didn't matter what sort of weather . If it was 2 degrees or 4 degrees, if it was windy or if there was ice on the road, it didn't matter, you just cycled. Half the kid population in Netherlands still cycle to school. No matter if the weather is wet, hot or cold. It's a mindset thing. People here in Malaysia, they're made of sugar. They can't handle anything. They have no guts. They're not growing up with any form of resistance," he said.

However, Lans added that safety was a problem when it came to cycling in Malaysia.

"Nowadays, everyone brings their kids to school, it doesn't matter how far it is, because it is dangerous. You never know what sort of people are on the road. Cars are a big problem. Why is it dangerous? In my opinion, it is because of the behaviour of people on the road, especially the motorcycles here in Penang. The motorcycles have zero respect for any traffic rule. The reason why kids don't cycle to school is because they can't find a safe way," he said.

Lans added that the heat may be a problem for some, but there were ways around it.

"What I find in Malaysia is that people don’t even want to try. They say .. No no no. This is not for us.," he said, adding that there were other initiatives to improve the state of transportation in Mala

ysia, especially in Penang, where he is based.

"To make Georgetown interesting for tourists, they could close down little India to all traffic. Make it entirely pedestrian, " he said, adding that in the 1970s, the single most important shopping street in Amsterdam was closed to traffic and opened only for pedestrians and it made millions for the traders.

"The government simply has to do it. It's not a very popular thing to do. But everyone is better off. City Hall should just do it," he said.

Lans said changing the mentality should start with children.

"In the 1970s, when I grew up (in the Netherlands), the discussion was about recycling, especially paper and glass. That was how I grew up in the mid 1970s. In this country, We have this with no more straws, but look around, you can still get straws," he said.

"Schools were instructed, this is what we want you to teach the kids. I went home and told my parents we need to collect the paper and the glass separately for recycling. The parents started participating," he said.

"It's the younger generation that needs to make the change, not the older ones, " he said.

Pos Malaysia registers biggest-ever net loss

recorded a net loss of RM165.7mil for the financial year ended March 31, 2019 – its biggest-ever loss for a full year.

The group had reported a net profit of RM93.25mil during the preceding year.

Pos Malaysia said the net loss was attributed mainly to widening losses from mail and impairment charges of RM39.6mil from the loss of goodwill in Pos Logistics.

“The losses from mail is a result of a continuing double-digit contraction in mail volume and bill payments, reflecting the increasing substitution of letters with electronic media.

“The impairment of goodwill in Pos Logistics is a result of a performance that was below expectations due to competitive market conditions,“ the group said in a statement.

Pos Malaysia’s group CEO, Syed Najib Syed Md Noor, said the loss was a result of the continuing decline in mail volume (13% year-on-year), coupled with high costs related to serving the Universal Service Obligation.

“We are working closely with the regulator for an overall tariff rebalancing to update the tariff that was last changed in 2010 accordingly to reflect the growing costs to serve the nation with an increase of 17% new postal addresses.

“We expect a positive outcome from the regulators on the tariff rebalancing,” he said.

He added that the goodwill impairment for Pos Logistics was due to increasing competition, which has resulted in poor performance.

“This impairment is a one-off expense,” he said.

During the period, the group also recorded a lower revenue of RM2.3bil, representing a decrease of 4.8%.

The lower revenue, the group said, was mainly due to reduced income from the logistics segment, which the group said was on the back of the completion of its project related to the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development project in Pengerang.

The postal services segment also registered a lower revenue of RM697.6mil, as compared to RM734.3mil previously, due to “accelerating decline in traditional mail volume, largely due to electronic substitution”.

Another segment that saw a significant drop in revenue was the international segment, which saw revenue fall by RM13.2mil on the back of lower volume in transshipment, following the loss of a major customer account.

During the fourth quarter, Pos Malaysia recorded a net loss of RM141.1mil, while revenue also came in lower at RM594.7mil.

Moving forward, the group said its business outlook remained generally challenging.

“One major challenge is the continuing contraction in mail volume, as business enterprises are increasingly communicating with their customers via electronic and digital channels, foregoing mail-based communications,” it said.Syed Najib said, however, that Pos Malaysia would be making significant investments into digital transformation and expanding its capabilities to serve the growing demand for e-commerce.

“The outlook for e-commerce and Pos Malaysia over the next few years is very promising.

“We are looking at the double-digit growth to continue, as more and more people shop online in Malaysia,” he said.

Via ongoing investments, he said the foundation would be set for Pos Malaysia to expand its business with the best infrastructure and solutions to serve the market.
