Asking about traffic monitoring

I do not know which category my question falls under. can moderators please help me out by moving it to the proper place ?

I would like to ask if it is possible for me to monitor the amount of bandwidth used daily on my webpage. I have accessed my cpanel and there is no such function. The reason i am asking is because every month i exceed my bandwidth cap and my webhosting company keeps sending me a warning letter. When consulted, the reason they say, would most likely be someone hotlinking the pictures from my site. I've been constantly asked to upgrade to a larger bandwidth but those plans costs a lot of money and its something i wouldnt want to pay in exess of.

For that, they also advice me to change the entire webpage into a flash format. They assured me the numbers would go down but it still will not prevent people with IT knowledge from hotlinking my pictures. I am in a dilemma. I have no idea what to do as of yet. Changing the entire webpage to flash can be costly for me. Someone please advice me. All your suggestions will be helpful to me.
So my 2 main questions are , is it possible to prevent hotlinking and how ? any 3rd party applications i could use ?
Is it possible to monitor the bandwidth used from my webpage ? Is it possible to monitor what is being hotlinked or even track to whom my bandwidth is being used most by ?

I do not know whether to put this under the software section nor the networking section. Please advice, thank you.
My webpage is a baking and cooking page and i do receive a lot of comments for it. It is not something illegal. i do alot of my own artwork on my baking and royal icing designs. It is my own personal page and not meant for business therefore i do not really want to spend unecessarily as money is difficult in times like these. Thank you again for your advice.

Asking about drivers

My colleague who is looking after our department's IT system often remind us to always update our drivers. Is this a must ? Is it really necessary ?
To do this constantly would be time consuming and i've often been advised to always update the drivers whether it be graphic card, modem, chipset and sound card ? Is this really necessary ? What are the implications if i dont update ?
What is a changelog by the way ?
