I would like to know who are staying or/ and working in Port Klang area at the moment? How long do you travel to work?

I got a job at Pulau Indah, a place which I heard is a kampung village, with lots of nice seafood, but no public transport. And it takes about 20minutes drive from Port Klang to Pulau Indah, right?

Anyone knows which area should I go if i were to find a room to rent nearby to Pulau Indah? I know there are few locations like Bukit Tinggi, Pendamaran, Teluk Gedong etc which is just nearby, but the distance is about 15-20 km to Pulau Indah still.

Distance/Time for travel to work

There are various factors for one to consider a job. The factors may range from salary, interest to distance and easy accessibility to work etc.

I know there are plenty of factories around Pulau Indah, such as Mewah Oils, POSCO, Ecolex, etc, and the lists go on.

I would like to know about the easy accessibility to Pulau Indah, from Klang. As I googled map it to get the direction, it shows to me that it takes about a 30 minutes ( 20km) journey from just Klang to Pulau Indah. Considering that Klang is the area nearest to Pulau Indah.

Also, I have heard that the road along the Pulau Indah highway is not in good condition, with lots of big trucks go in and out every day.

Anyone works in Pulau Indah? Would a distance to travel to work an issue for you? Would appreciate if you could share your piece here.

Maybank Currency Exchange

Hi all, I intend to withdraw my cash via Maybank card visa from ATM while in Vietnam/

As of what I know, if we intend to withdraw cash overseas, we need to activate our overseas status in the Maybank ATM card first.
And the currency of MYR to Vietnam Dong will follow the currency exchange rate of the bank itself (in my case, maybank).

But, I have tried to search for mybank currency exchange rate but just couldn't find it.

can somebody enlighten me please? I was wondering whether Maybank has its own currency exchange rate.

Hey, all life science graduates (biotech, biomed, biochem, chem, microbio, environmental science, food science etc etc), which industry do you guys currently in after graduated?

I hope this will serve as a platform for those students who wanna further their degree in life science to have a better understanding on the career prospects.

Enquiry on IELTS test

As per the title of this thread,

I would like to know, if i were to sit for the IELTS test within a 1 month duration (includes preparations + result known), is that possible?

Do I need to enroll in a center like British Council before I am able to sit for the test?

I hope it won't be too late for completing the test, seeing the fact that I need to submit the IELTS result before January next year for my overseas scholarships application.

Cycling to work

Hello, i would like to know your impressions on your friends/collegues who are cycling to work.

apparently, some of my friends do tell me it is kinda weird to cycle while on a formal wear with tie to the office.

but still, if the company is within a distance to your residences, why not save on the fuel and cycle? plus it is environmental friendly and can avoid crazy traffic jams .

what do you think?

Online Course for TEFL/TESOL

Hi, I intends to enroll for the online course to obtain TEFL certificates in order for me to eligible to teach English abroad.

Currently, I have been suggested this TEFL certificate which will be done online fully.

Applying Master Overseas

Hi, I plan to further my master in New zealand or Australia and have come to know that, the application is a bit different from those UK or US universities.

One thing is that I intend to do a MSc (Research Mode) and i am very curious about the research proposal submission. Do we need to approach our chosen supervisors before submitting application form for admission into the particular university or the other way round? the application form for admission require me to submit a research proposal, but then I need to discuss with the supervisors first before I could outline it properly.

I noticed that when applying to NZ and Australia universities, we do not need any recommendation letter from our referee but instead just states our referee's names, email,position, and contact number only. This is different from UK or US universities in which 1-2 recommendation letters are needed as a requirements for application procedures.
I am just wondering do we need to include if it is not stated so? and will they university admission staffs contact our referees and ask for our background?

Being a lecturer

what do you guys think of a fresh grads being a lecturer without any prior experiences in the industry/subject they are going to teach?

For me, I think its better to have some industry experience before embarking in a career in teaching. It give you exposure to what the real working world looks like and in turn, you can help your students to prepare for it better.

would it be better to start off as a lecturer after freshly grads or after a few years of industrial experiences first?

Doing master abroad

Hi all! I am currently in my final year of BSc in a local university. I am interested to continue my Master abroad. currently learnt that there are only a few limited scholarships available to apply for studying Master abroad. A few scholarships available are JPA , MARA, YDP Agung Scholarships. I haven't come across any others =(

Well, would like to ask, i heard it is possible to go for teaching assitantships during your master , your supervisor will pay you and u will get some allowances to live comfortably right? So, I am interested to find out these options which may be enough to cover my living allowances during my master abroad.

Hope someone could enlighten me.

is that true that those who have a Maybank account will be actually under the name of the group of Maybank Islamic Berhad?

from what i see in the official websites, maybank has several groups like maybank islamic, etiqa, maybank investment bank, maybank philipines, maybank indonesia.

so i am just wondering, whether all Maybank saving account holder will have an account under the Maybank Islamic Group?
Because from what my printed account statement, it is stated under the name of maybank islamic.

where to change RM1 Syiling

hi there!

Anyone know where to change RM 1 Syiling? I heard from OCBC ,maybank and bank rakyat said that only BNM is the place to change the RM1 syiling.
Others said that it can no longer be changed..may i know do i need to go over to BNM( the one in KL) in order to change? no other bank can do the changing?

hi , i would like to know whether would it be of higher chances for a science chemistry graduate to be employed and work in chemical engineering fields?

I will be placed and trained in waste water treatment in food industry for my interns , but i am from chemistry fields. so just wondering whether it wil takes more efforts to understand that? any of you have the experience in waste water treatment? is it easy to pick up the skills in handling the whole operation of waste water treatment ONLY with an engineering background?

Running Nose

Hey, i have faced this kind of problem - Running Nose whenever i sleep in the air-conditioner room.

I just don't understand why, why other people sleep normally and soundly under air cond room while for me, i will face running nose and have to wake up to clean my nose with tissues and water even in the midst of night.
This really disturbing, any solution to curb this problem?

Internships

I am really having a dilemma, i have been offered a place in a Private Hospital, working in a lab ,for 3 months. At the same time, i wish myself to work at the food industry,preferentially in a QA/QC department, rather than in a hospital. I don't quite sure how much it differs between the environment for both as i am not yet experiencing either one. so in that case, should i accept the offer to work as an interns in the hospital? would it be helpful in my future credential? thinking of the kind of environment which i would like to work is within the food indutry or food manufacturing factory .
Part of the reason why i want to work in factory is that i could have opportunity to move up the ladder, perhaps have a transition to HR section or Management level.
While working in hospital, i can't see this would clearly help in my future career prospects.Pls shed light.=)
