The day has finally come, a security researcher has since published a full exploit of the Dlink DIR-615 router that would grant the attacker the username and password of the router.

Unfortunately, this attack affects all Unifi Dlink Dir-615 router regardless of the firmware. So no matter what you do you're vulnerable.

You need to know:
Link here

Anyone know where I can head foam earpads

I have a logitech h600 (not an audiophile headset) but one I use daily for my telecons and work.

The foam earpads on the headset tore, and now is flaky, but overall the headset still works fine. I don't want to throw away or get a new set just because the earpads are spoilt.

Anyone here know where I can get the foam earpads...like this:
http://www.amazon.com/pairs-Headphone-Earp...s/dp/B0033DKKUG

IN Malaysia without shipping?

Rm50

Package includes:Just the items above (no box already)

Price:RM450 for everything

Warranty:none

Dealing method:COD only (this thing is HEAVY)

Location of seller:Klang/Cyberjaya

Contact method/details: PM HERE

Age of item:About 7 years

---

Item(s) conditions:The items are about 7 years old, and their not in the best condition, but they're all working. The Motherboard has some issues, but the RAM, CPU, Power supply, soundcard and graphic card are working fine. The Casing is missing two screws and the acrylic has some scratches ...and I'm missing the front two panels since I installed two DVD ROMs. But other than that no scratches on the metal.

Picture:Will post soon

Reason for sale:Was my gaming rig when I was in Uni playing Dota on flying spaghetti monster....now I'm old, time to sell. No HDD with the system as there are sensitive documents there I wish to keep.

All items nego, but please be reasonable. I'll can post everything except the power supply and casing (they're just too darn heavy), buyer bear postage cost and risk. Honestly, this is not a good system, as you're better off buying a new PC for like Rm1000 which much better specs, but it's probably worth it if you just need a few items to keep your old PC running.

New HTPC setup

Hey Guys,

I want to create a new HTPC, and I'm looking to benchmark myself against the mac mini.

Currently, the Rm1.9k Mac Mini has an 2.3Ghz i5 chip, 2GB of RAM and 500GB of HDD. Not much, but the mac mini package is really nice to look at, it's really small and it comes with Lion OS, plus it's idle wattage is really low, around 10-15W.

For my HTPC, i'm hoping to connect to my TV to play movies/shows, but also do some surfing and bit torrent downloads. It has to look nice, cause it'll be next to my TV in the living room (no gaming stuff, or bright LED lights please), and it has to run silent and cool. The budget is around 2k.

So from what I've seen so far, I came up with the following (all based on czone price list):

AMD A8-3850 - RM425
Gigabyte A75M-S2V - RM299
500GB W.D Sata Blue - Rm250
Kingston HyperX 4GB - Rm125
Silverstone ML03 - Rm289
Seasonic 500W Silence - Rm199
LiteOn Blu Ray Reader - Rm199

For a total of Rm1786.

That's the best I can come up with to compare to the Rm1899 Mac Mini.

Mac Mini advantage is it's size and power consumption, plus OS lion which is awesome.
This rig has a Blu Ray reader, probably better performance, and I can add more stuff later on like more RAM storage, and a graphics card. Mac Mini is locked down.

I was hoping to get some help on a couple of questions:

1) Is the Gigabyte A75M-S2V a M-ATX board, the website suggest so but c-zone pricelist it as a regular ATX board.
2) Can this play blu ray movies easily? The reviews seem to suggest it can.
3) What kind of power consumption are we looking at? Can I reduce the Power Supply to a cheaper 400W unit? (must be a silent one though)
4) Is there a better setup for the same price available?
5) If I plan to leave my machine idle on for long periods, with just bit torrent downloads in the background, how can I save on power consumption ? (SSD perhaps?)

Thanks.
How much should Unifi Rebate me?

I recently had a total of 9 days of Unifi Outage. This was 9 days where I:

1) Raised 3 tickets to Unifi, and each ticket ended with a "We'll contact you in 24 hours" tagline.
2) Complained to the tmceo@tm.net.my email (they do respond to this email)
3) Complained via twitter to @TMconnects account (they responded here as well)
4) Spent a total of at least 2 hours talking to Unifi staff, asking me to restart my modem, check the lights..etc etc.

Now In the meantime, I have already requested a rebate...and they offered me a pro-rated rate of just 9/30*150 = Rm44++

To me, that's ridiculous. My YES! top up alone is worth Rm68.

Also, this is not a pre-paid service, it is a post-paid service with a contractual obligation.

AND:

According to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Commission Determination On Mandatory Standards For Quality of Service (Broadband Access Service):

Section 14©; 100% of all service restoration request shall be fulfilled within 7 days of receipt of request.

AND section 27(d)

Annual Network service availability shall be 99.9%.

In case you're wondering, 9 days downtime means Unifis maximum availability for the next 12 months would be 97.5%.

Since Unifi is obviously in breach of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, I was wondering shouldn't they have to pay me Rm500, which is the amount I would pay if I breached the contract with Unifi?

Let's also take a step back, and forget what's realistic or not....what should Unifi rebate a 5Mbps customer for 9 days downtime? Any thoughts??

Be fair and reasonable to both Unifi, but also to yourself.

Link to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Commision Determination on Mandatory Standards for Quality of Service (Broadband Access Service) from the SKMM website is:
http://www.skmm.gov.my/link_file/what_we_d...s_Broadband.pdf

Waja Driver Side speakers not working

Recently my Waja driver side speakers went silent meaning absolutely no sound at all, from all 3 (tweeter and door speaker + rear speaker) speakers

Went over to the local accessory shop and the opened up the panel, all looked ok, but the guy said that the left hand side driver was spoilt.

So he proceeded to re-wire it (because i didn't want to change), and then he mentioned he didn't manage to fix it. After some complicated re-wiring and diagnostic, he told me 3 things below:

1) The rear speakers were 'jammed' and especially the driver side rear-speakers and that's what he said caused the driver side IC to spoil. To test the rear speakers, he asked me to put my hand inside the speaker and try to push the diaphragm of the speaker and feel it. He said it was too rigid and no longer had any flex, therefore that's what caused the speakers to jam. I never heard of anything like this before, wondering if it's true.

2) The driver side driver for the WHOLE car was spoilt, so I had to change my Clarion unit. Is it possible for just one side of the car to be spoilt? I don't understand the electronics of it all , but I really doubt it.

3) The tweeters in front were also spoilt....although I could hear it work fine after he bypassed it.

Anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong, what I can do.

The current diagnosis is to change the unit, the rear speakers and the tweeters...which is basically changing my whole damn car system. I'm a simple man, I just want sound out of the unit, anyone have any ideas?

S&P 500 index ETF (from Singapore)

I'm looking to invest in an index fund that tracks the S&P500, I think over time this is more or less the best investment for me with regards to risk/reward.

I'm looking to invest aroun Rm5k , and so far can't find a single index fund in Malaysia that tracks the S&P500.

The closest I found was an ETF in Singapore Stock exchange, and did some calculating.

If I invested 5k in the SGDX ETF iShares S&P500, I would have to spend nearly:

Rm150 + 0.3% in fees from HLEBroking: http://www.hlebroking.com/v2/Default.asp (I counted both the buy and sell)

And another 0.15%(roughly) for the ETF Transaction cost : http://www.sgx.com/psv/securities/etf/ETF_SP500.shtml

Did I count that correctly?

All in all the total transaction cost I would pay is roughly around Rm180 for a Rm5k investment.

Which is about 3-4% of the investment cost (which is still less than the 5.5% for normal mutual funds, but much more than a standard 1-2% for index funds)

I think it makes sense, but I haven't factored in a conversion rate, which I'm unsure about. But I'm not counting the withdrawal fees for the Index Fund either. Withdrawal fees are usually Rm25 to Rm100, and that's relatively small.

Anyone have any input? Would appreciate it. I think it's risky because I'm unsure about trading in Singapore, not sure about Tax laws, dividend payment or Conversion rates. Anyone done this before?

Soft Squeaking/Whistling Sound from front tyre

I've been getting this soft-squeaking sound from the front driver side tyre. It sounds almost like a kettle whistling.

I recently changed my wheel bearing, but that was about a month ago, and I only noticed this sound today. I drive a Waja 1.6 The sounds stops once I brake. Only audible at low speeds, once I reach higher speeds, it's either I can't hear it or it dissapears.

The front 2 tyres are freaking hot, after I drive around a bit, much hotter than the rear, but I guess since the rear has no engine, this should be expected. But it's really hot..if I pour water on it, it evaporates.

Today also, for the first time I can hear a screeching sound from the front passenger side tyre. I park in the same car park for the past year, and today was the first time I heard my tyre screech when I make a right turn. It 's from the passenger side, but the whistling sound comes from the driver side. Both front.

Last thing, the sound isn't present when the tyres are cold, in the morning, or when I just start the car after work and drive around..there's no sound. But when I reach home, and the tyres are properly heated up ,.. I can hear the sound. It really is weird.

HELP...who can solve my problem.

New Electric Guitar

I've got a Norman Acoustic that I've been playing for about a year now. Hoping to get an electric this time around. Been playing off and on, for the past 10 years, only started playing consistently for the past year.

I'm looking to get a new Electric guitar (together with Amp) and everything. My Budget is 2k (although I'm looking to spend 1.8k ONLY) haha

Wonder what guitar/amp setup I should, I want something higher than entry level, but can't afford the really good stuff. So I guess Low to Mid-Range would be my best bet.

I'll probably be playing mostly bluesy stuff, but want my setup to rock when I need it to. So I want my amp to be able to produce bluesy-rock kinda sounds. Not performing , so a small wattage is all I require.

I'm looking at Godins, I think SD retail for aroun 1.6k which make it out of my budget. What would be a good Ibanez in that price range?

Input would be greatly appreciated.

Brand new System

Hey guys I'm creating a new system from scratch. It's needs to store customer information and billing information.

Customer information is straightforward, name, address, Credit Card Number,,etc, this information is keyed in manually through and interface (which must be designed as well)

Billing information is processed from a file. The file is in an excel format received periodically. The file must be uploaded in the database and will be correlated to the customer via the customers account number.

Billing: every month is a billing cycle whereby the system must generate the billing statements based on the billing tables. Billing consist of 2 processes:

Statement Printing : preferably in pdf format.

Email, this pdf must then be emailed to the customer directly from within the application.

The application itself must perform additional features like real-time customer query on billing, and also sales calculations and generate reports.

The program doesn't have to be web-based, but must be scalable. Most programming should be done at the database via SPs wherever possible to allow interfaces to be built easily.

My question is what platform/language should I use to program this. My Priorities are cost (all legal softward) , ease of programming and scalability (in that order).

Please note that cost is inclusive of all cost which includes man day charges. Would really appreciate everybodys input on this.

Undecided on Acoustic Gutiar

I've been looking for a good acoustic guitar for around 1.5k - 2k. So far i've checked out a couple of guitar shops around the klang valley and came up with the following:-

1) A beautiful all-solid Farida guitar d32n
2) A Norman B20 High Gloss
3) Simon & Patrick SP6 Spruce with B-Band pickup
4) Seagull S6+ Slim

All the guitars are within my price range, I would say they all have great qualities, the Farida , although China Made has Fantastic Build and great projection and sound. But it may be a bit too pronounce for me.

The Norman is really mellow and has a real 'control' sound to it.

The seagull sounds just like the Norman, but kinda warmer. Really good sound.

The Simon & Patrick sounds pretty decent, it has some good projection and the pickup was really good. The finishing wasn't as good as the Farida though, but this is a spruce which I'm more partial too. Plus it's got a b-band pickup for under 2k.

Wonder what you guys think, for me the sound is the most important thing. Everything else is secondary. I'm seriously considering the Farida, but worried, cos not many people own them. Can't even get decent search results from Google. But if i'd think about it, if the sticker said 'Made in Canada' instead of 'Made in China' would have bought the guitar that day itself. Anyone have any comments on the Farida.

Also I heard great reviews about a local luthrie that makes Freeman guitars, anyone know where I can find these guitars?

Non-coding IT work?

I noticed that theres not much emphasis on the non-coding part of IT in the forums. I know the this subforum is named Codemasters, but in most cases writing code is only half the story.

In most cases, coders/programmers/apps specialist/developers (whatever you call them) will have to
1)Document change
2)Create the test strategy and test cases
3)Carry out test
4)Write and re-write the technical specifications
5)Create solution scripts for support team...etc.

Wonder whether anyone here goes through these processes, because IT professionals need to be able to formulate all of these.

I bring this up because I recently had a application where the development and hosting was outsourced to a local company and they had ABSOLUTELY no documentation on their application. Not even proper test scripts, and their technical specifications were incomplete. Is this common in most local companies because from what i know most of my friends that work for local companies(small IT companies) don't know much about proper documentation of IT based projects.

If you're working in a local IT company as a developer, I wonder what your thoughts are on this. In larger companies, developers are managed by someone, and most of the time they just implement what they are told, there is someone else to do the documentation and handle the users/client. But in smaller projects, developers are required to do at least SOME documentation themselves and plan the test environment or handle the change request. So developers must at least have some basic knowledge of the IT processes (standards like ITIL), and ways of documenting them. What do you guys think?

*Mod if this is the wrong forum, sorry. Please move to proper subforum.

Running a stored procedure using Vb.net via ODBC

I've been using a great little dbwork class that utilizes sqlconnection, however i've been asked to change the connection to an ODBC connection string. SO i had to change the connection strings and data adapters and commands and all from SQL to odbc.odbc...
Now the problem is that my stored procedure function will not run

The code for the function is.... I think there's something wrong with the sql.parameters.add() function, Intellisense said it was obsolote and advised me to use addWithvalue instead. The error message I keep getting is expects paramater @variable which was not supplied.... I think the problem is at the add part it's not getting added to the dataset properly.

Public Function runStoredProc(ByVal ProcedureName As String, ByVal ParameterArray As ArrayList) As Integer
Dim sql As Odbc.OdbcCommand
Dim rowAffected As Integer
Dim paramTable As DataSet
Dim j As Integer

paramTable = retrieveParameters(ProcedureName)
sql = New Odbc.OdbcCommand(ProcedureName, objConn, objTrans)
sql.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
If Not paramTable Is Nothing Then
For j = 0 To ParameterArray.Count - 1
Select Case LCase(paramTable.Tables(0).Rows(j + 1).Item(6))
Case "varchar"
sql.Parameters.Add(paramTable.Tables(0).Rows(j + 1).Item(3), Odbc.OdbcType.VarChar).Value = ParameterArray.Item(j)
Case "int"
sql.Parameters.Add(paramTable.Tables(0).Rows(j + 1).Item(3), Odbc.OdbcType.Int).Value = ParameterArray.Item(j)
Case "float"
sql.Parameters.Add(paramTable.Tables(0).Rows(j + 1).Item(3), Odbc.OdbcType.Double).Value = ParameterArray.Item(j)
Case "datetime"
sql.Parameters.Add(paramTable.Tables(0).Rows(j + 1).Item(3), Odbc.OdbcType.DateTime).Value = ParameterArray.Item(j)
Case "char"
sql.Parameters.Add(paramTable.Tables(0).Rows(j + 1).Item(3), Odbc.OdbcType.Char).Value = ParameterArray.Item(j)
End Select
If ParameterArray.Count > paramTable.Tables(0).Rows.Count Then
Exit For
End If
Next
End If
lastError = ""
ConnOpen()
Try
rowAffected = sql.ExecuteNonQuery()
Return rowAffected
Catch ex As Exception
lastError = ex.Message
rowAffected = -1
End Try
Return rowAffected
End Function

submit through 4 pages in ASP.net

Anyone know of a way to pass data from previous pages in asp.net. I manage to use the Context.Items("username") from page 1 to page 2, but can't get it to pass it to page 3.

Something like this....

<page1.aspx>

Sub Page_Transfer (sender as Object, e as EventArgs)

Context.Items("UserName") = UserName.text

Server.Transfer("page2.aspx")
End sub

<page2.aspx>

Sub Page_Transfer (sender as Object, e as EventArgs)

Context.Items("UserName2") = Context.Items("UserName")

Server.Transfer("page3.aspx")
End sub

In page 3, the Context.Items("username2") does not appear at ALL. If I change page2 to something like

<page2.aspx>
Sub Page_Transfer (sender as Object, e as EventArgs)

Context.Items("UserName2") = "hello"

Server.Transfer("page3.aspx")
End sub

Then it works,....

I've even tried something like...

<page2.aspx>
Dim temp_string As String

Sub Page_Transfer (sender as Object, e as EventArgs)
Temp_string = Context.Items("username")
Context.Items("UserName2") = temp_string
Label1.Text = Temp_string

Server.Transfer("page3.aspx")
End sub

In this case the Label1 text appears CORRECTLY but the data still doesn't get passed to the page3. Anyone know what could be the problem?
scholarship question

I have/had a scholarship with an MNC company, which requires me to work for them for a certain number of years. Soon after I graduated I've sent them emails and made phone calls informing them that I was ready and wiling to work ASAP. However, besides the first few replies I got, nothing came. After about 2 months down the line, I decided it was not going to happen, and went searching for jobs. After a couple interviews , I found a job I liked and was offered a position at another company.

2 1/2 months AFTER I graduated, the company calls me back to have a look, I had a look and didn't like it. So I decided I wasn't going to honor my scholarship. In my scholarship contract, it states that I should be it states that i have to serve the company within one week and no later than one month after successful completion of my degree course. It's been more than a month after I completed the course.

anyone know if I can contact anyone regarding this matter, besides lawyers of course. Is there any government ministry in charge of things like these and who do I contact. Thanx.
