can i ask for a higher salary?

if a company made a salary suggestion and i accepted it (due to inexperience and ignorance), and later regret it, can I still go back, prior to being formally hired and negotiate a slightly higher figure?

lets say the situation is as such: i have been selected by the interviewr and my name passed to the HR dept, who asked me on the spot if i would be happy with RMXXXX, so out of inexperience said yes, but my heart said no but i didnt want to seem demanding. but the hiring process has not been completed so can i still go back and ask for a slightly higher figure?

Good Command of English

I don't understand the complaint "job applicants lack a good command of English". It simply does not tally with my observation.

Most people in Malaysia seem to me to have a decent command of English, people on the streets, on the internet (on this forum for example, and LYN in general), plenty of good Malaysia-based English language blogs, to name a few.

Most people seem to read write and speak English just fine, which makes that complaint particularly perplexing.

Could some HR people (and others in the know) share their experience that led to this common gripe about the poor English of job applicants?

I have an EEE degree but I also like to write, so I'm thinking what are the career prospects of a technical writer in Malaysia? What other things can a technical writer do apart from writing up technical reports?

Why do employers ask for passport photos?

They ask for photos of people applying for engineering jobs, accountancy jobs etc etc etc. I'm not just referring to "obvious" jobs like modelling or stewardess.

I think in Europe asking for photos of job applicants is illegal.

Do they reject people who look ugly in their photos?

I'm sure the many wise HR people on here would be able to shed some light on this long-standing mystery.

Sorry for the very noob question but : What is the point of employers "keeping for reference" your CV instead of issuing a clear rejection? Does it mean you are automatically considered for future positions? Or are they gathering personal data of the public to be sold to tele-salesmen?

What do they do with your CVs when they "KIV" them?
