https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2019/02...heast-asia.html

QUOTE

Boeing Co. of the United States and other major international aircraft makers are moving to build manufacturing bases in Southeast Asia.

Thailand and Malaysia are eager to attract industries from overseas, in the hope of developing their economies. This is presenting opportunities for small and midsized Japanese companies that manufacture airplane parts or provide other services to start operations in the region.

On-site inspection

Representatives of 30 small and midsized companies from Japan gathered in Bangkok on Feb. 12 to explore the possibility of starting business there. They listened to Thai government officials discuss investment plans and inspected local companies.

“There are issues with the infrastructure environment and other things, but we hope to incorporate the vigor of this growth market,” said Tomaru Nakamura, managing director of Kyoto-based Asahi Kinzoku Kogyo Inc., which provides such services as special surface processing for airplane parts.

Although i would love to be proven wrong about this, I doubt Malaysia will be as attractive to investors as Thailand.

Honda Jazz V vs Mazda 2 vs Persona Premium

Thinking of taking advantage of 0% GST to replace my creaking 10yo Persona who have served me well but is starting to give me problems basically every other month.

I’m not a petrolhead and mostly drive in KL / Klang Valley area.

Have shortlisted these 3 models that have minimal financial impact for me but need some convincing on which will be of the most value. I plan to get the top variant of each model by the way. Here are my thoughts on each one:

Jazz:
Good reputation for reliability and durability
Lots of boot space despite compact body
Low FC apparently
Good resale value

C2:
A bit of a wildcard
Apparently more fun to drive than Jazz
Better FC than Jazz apparently

Persona Premium:
Proton so its a gamble
Bootspace and a sedan but I mostly drive alone
Cheap means more spare cash
Worst FC of the three
Low price but with all the bells and whistles
The list of safety features seems longer than the other two

Which one should a light-footed city driver who just wants a low-maintenance car go for?

I have an opportunity to work at Great Eastern...the insurance company.

Not as an insurance salesman though.

Whats the culture like there? Is it very chinaman type management? Coming from a western MNC i worry joining a local company and finding out that I am not able to adjust to the culture.

Not filling in the "Expected Salary" column

I am currently jobhunting which means filling endless online forms.

I do not want anything to disadvantage me, so I wonder if leaving the "expected salary" column blank will do that to me (it's not a compulsory field). How common is it to filter out candidates by their expected salaries?

Given that I do not know how much they are prepared to pay for the positions, it's a bit tricky setting the "correct" expectation to avoid the pay-demand filter.

TYIA for any constructive input.

Susupicious FB status updates.

I've been dating a girl for 2 months. So we have been close and although we have not been officially a "couple" or said "i love you" to each other (we just say we really really like each other and call each other 'honey' and words like that). She said she missed me and when I asked how many guys does she miss, she told me she only missed me.

So I am not her friend on Facebook and she doesn't know that I sometimes check her Facebook profile and can see her Facebook wall.

Today I wandered about the internet and decided to have a look at her Facebook profile.

And to my utter shock, her status was "after a few years we finally broke up. Reallly sad and crying now"

What could this mean?????? Have I been played????

Obviously i'm disappointed and curious. I would like to ask her more about it but I hate to be someone who interferes in her private business too much or come across as someone who is full of jealousy and controlling.

Or should accept that I was never the only one and walk away?

Applying for internal transfers

I am thinking of applying for a few internal vacancies (all of which are of a grade than my current position).

Given my green-ness in these matters, I have a few questions:

How big of a risk is this?

Is applying for other positions going to send a signal to my superior that my heart is just not in the job anymore?

Is this going to cause a problem with my immediate superior?

If I don't get the posts that I apply for, am I going to be treated differently (presumably worse) should I decide to stay put (because my current job and colleagues are ok and I like the company)?

Constructive replies appreciated.

Hi

I used a Nokia 6300 and loved the solid feel of its body. Could someone be kind enough to recommend me phones (budget <1000RM) of any brand that have solidly-built outer shells and feel solid to the touch. Thanks!

Customer Support or GEMS

So I am an engineering graduate who has no interest to pursue a career strictly as an engineer (designing circuits, coding etc etc).

I have been offered a customer support role in an MNC and also a spot in the Graduate Employability Management Scheme.

Which one should I go for? Is customer support a dead end job? Would GEMS give me a chance of a management role earlier on or would I waste time with a programme that does not guarantee employment?

Please advise.

[addedon]October 5, 2009, 11:09 pm[/addedon]anyone?
