Laptop screen fail to wake up properly

I don't know if this issue is raised before, but i couldn't search anything like the issue i'm facing right now.

My laptop screen will not be able to wake up properly after turning off automatically if there is a second video output connected. The only thing on my laptop monitor will be my mouse and it flashes, it will not return to normal until i plug the output out.

my laptop is Asus A455LF model.

edit: this happens after i got the laptop back from warranty, which my lcd has white lines before sending to warranty. they also reformatted it, with intel graphics driver dated 10 nov 2016 and manual update of driver is not possible. the nvidia graphics driver is updated as an attempt to fix the problem, but no avail.

edit: Here is a video of it

BSOD, but caused by graphic card, psu or mobo?

Complaint:

QUOTE

1. BSOD before log in screen, suspected caused by graphic card
2. Keyboard and mouse sometimes not functioning
3. Power LED on mobo not on

Here is a chronology of my issue.

QUOTE

1. Bought HDD, installed and no problems before put cover back. After put cover, power LED on mobo not on, can't turn on computer. After 1 night, everything is normal and able to turn on computer. Computer ran with no problems for a week until yesterday.

2. Watching a video on MPC-HC, suddenly black screen, I suspected display port not working. I pressed windows key right arrow twice and enter to shut down (i am on win 7) but no response. I force restart using 5 sec on power button. First restart keyboard and mouse not functioning (asked to choose boot safe mode or normally). Second restart black screen with movable mouse. Third restart is successful, then update graphics driver and hope it solves the problem. A restart follows and was successful.

3. Few minutes later, screen off and on and there is a notification saying Nvidia windows kernel driver stopped working and recovered. This happened for a few times, and with artifacts (blocks of pixels are black, buttons and interface did not refresh until mouse is hovering above) and finally black screen. Tried restart and problems from #2 persisted. Few attempts later BSOD occurs after windows loading splash (right before log in screen).

4. Booted into safe mode, and tried uninstalling and re-installing graphics driver. BSOD still persists. Problems from #2 still persists.

5. Opened cover and check if GC is loose. Found it's still tight, and put cover back. Power LED on mobo not on again, and after few minutes of waiting it is on and can turn on computer.

6. Update 19/4/15 I've changed the GC PCIe slot, and BSOD still persists. Uninstalled display driver, it can boot pass log in screen. After re-installed driver, BSOD occured before log in screen.

Notes:

QUOTE

1. During the HDD installation, I need to pull out the GC so I have space to slot in SATA cable. Forgetful me forget to unpin GC and pulled it out, and the pin was dislocated. Managed to put it back in and slot in GC.

2. When problem #2 occurred, my phone is plugged in and that was the first device plugged into computer since HDD installation.

3. Nvidia windows kernel driver stopped and recovered issue did happened before this issue, but not as bad as this time.

PC spec:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

i7 950
12GB RAM
Asus Sabertooth x58
1 SSD
1TB HDD
2TB HDD
GTX 570
700W PSU

Windows 7 64-bit

Questions:

QUOTE

1. If GC is faulty, why still can display in safe mode? my mobo don't have integrated graphics port

2. I've read in other threads that servicing GC might help, but will servicing my GC be any use now? Like cleaning the card and put new thermal paste

3. Was wondering if my computer is underpowered, because problem #2 starts only after I plugged in my phone. Putting my psu wattage into consideration, I think it's unlikely.

I've attached 2 photos and a zipped recent dump file for reference. Any sifus can guide and explain? Thanks!

Solved

QUOTE

So it indeed was my GC. Bought and installed a new GC and no more problems. Thanks everyone for their time to reply!

USB connection problem

hello all, i have a Nokia 720 and it just doesn't connect to my pc whenever i want to transfer photos.

It's like this, at first it can connect and transfer files to my pc using USB cable without installing any drivers. Then one day i noticed the phone doesn't connect to the pc via USB. i tried to look for it in Device Manager, but nothing found there, not even "Unknown Device", or "Windows Phone" with an error icon. I can confirm that it is not the cable problem, since my phone still can charge via USB cable while connected to my pc.

Anyone encounter this before? or anyone has a solution on this? Thanks.

WD eHDD problem

Hi all, recently my WD external HDD suddenly becomes "undetected" by computers, no matter which computer you use to read it. It is relatively new (1 year+). When you plug in, windows noticed there is a drive plugged in but the auto-play options didn't pop up and not seen in My Computer.

I opened up the enclosure (yes, i chose to kaput my warranty ) and plug it to SATA, the computer won't boot pass the MOBO logo screen. After i plug it out it can boot to windows as usual. One of my friend also tried plugging into SATA, same thing happened. But my friend mentioned after waited for a while, it boot passed the MOBO logo screen, but can't find it on My Computer.

After i got back my eHDD, i tried to read it again. This time, it can be read after a few minutes the eHDD is plugged in. Windows then notify me that it is installing a driver for the eHDD, which didn't happen before I open the enclosure.

Then I did a couple of things:

1. Tried to open the eHDD. Found that reading the drive is very slow.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

2. I am suspecting the cable and the pcb board that comes from WD. Please enlighten me! Thanks in advance.

Multiple boot attemps after cleaning heat sink

Hi all, recently i cleaned my heat sink and CPU fan (plug out and re-installed, including proc). But after that i notice my computer is attempting multiple boot attemps before actually booting into windows. No problems after the computer boots into windows.

I know that my comp was overclocked by a little by my friend, so i reset default settings in the BIOS, but problem still persists. I also notice one of my ram couldn't be read by BIOS, but CPU-Z is still able to read it. I have 12GB of ram, so now BIOS can only read 8GB but CPU-Z still picks up 12GB.

I guess the only clue lies within the HWMonitor log file i saved 2 months ago and a recent one. Can sifus go through it and suggest solutions? thanks.

note: HWMonitor_13_07_2013.txt is before BIOS reset, while HWMonitor_15_07_2013.txt is logged after BIOS reset.
