Scottish Unis: Edinburgh vs Glasgow

Hi fellow Malaysians,

I've been scouring The Student Room for information about studying in UK for too long and it's great to be back among us mamak-hopping, tidak apa, macam-macam pun ada fellas at Low Yat forum .

But anyway!

I'm conflicted about applying to either Edinburgh or Glasgow university for an undergraduate course. I know that Edinburgh is a bit more reputable than Glasgow, but after lots of research, Glasgow appears to be the better university for my chosen subject. However, I am lingering on Edinburgh because I might have a better chance at scholarships from Malaysian companies/bursaries, etc.

Does anyone have any insight as to how recognized Glasgow is in comparison to Edinburgh for scholarships in Malaysia?

Thank you!

Part-Time A Levels

Hi all,

I am currently a Diploma in Performing Arts student looking to forward my studies overseas in English and Literature.

I hope to qualify for an A Level in Literature in English at least, before I attempt for an application. However, I don't want to study a full A Level course, nor do I want to study any irrelevant subjects. I don't mind if I have to study an express course of 2 subjects, which will be Literature in English and any related subject like Drama/Sociology... But so far, I could not find such an option on the internet. I would fail epicly at anything like "Further Mathematics".

The best that I can find is a part-time in Brickfields college for one subject. I have already e-mailed them for further information.

However, I would like to know if there are any alternatives to doing a part-time 1 subject A Level in KL?

I think British Council used to offer papers for A Levels, but I think they've removed that option from their site since the last time I checked.

Thanks very much!

Studying Performing Arts

I am interested in performing arts courses.

So far, after some research, I have settled on the Diploma in Performing Arts offered in Sunway. The lecturers seem to be experienced and involved in the KL scene, the college is reputable, the fees doesn't blow me off my feet and they have good scholarship programs =).

I was wondering, however, whether this diploma program would be recognized by universities worldwide, more specifically the ones in Australia/UK/USA. So far, I've been looking at Deakin for their bachelor programs and it seems promising. Anyone knows whether they would allow admissions from graduates of Sunway's diploma? I contacted them but they did not reply for quite a long time.

Is anyone studying anything related to Performing Arts in this forum? If so, mind sharing your experience or opinions?

I hope to hear more about Sunway's diploma program from the students themselves (perhaps anyone has links to a student's blog?). Maybe anyone can give me their opinions on the Malaysian Film Academy?

Lastly, what are the reputable universities that are reknowned for their performing arts courses? Anyone knows? I would appreciate any suggestions of universities from US/UK/AUS. Thanks.

PS: I am interested to hear ANYTHING from ANYONE about performing arts, so feel free to share anything here. I hope to learn as much as possible about this field I'm about to step into. Many thanks.

Edit: I am hoping to further my education at an undergraduate level in Writing/Film Studies. However, I am planning to go through the diploma before confirming that =D.
