[WTA] Ipoh : Maxis 10Mbps or Unifi 5Mbps

Hi everyone, good day!

I am currently residing at Sunway City Ipoh. For years I am stuck with streamyx 1Mbps and recently decided to upgrade. I have read a lot of threads about Maxis vs Unifi in lowyat forum and still could not decide between these two. This is probably due to lack of information for my location and not many Ipoh users seem to report here. I figure my best chance would be to ask the experts here.

My main internet usage is downloading files from file hosting sites. They are usually around 5 to 15GBs. I can easily hit 60GB in few days. Torrenting is usually optional to me. Sometimes I download games from PS store and occasionally connect to my PC remotely from Singapore. I don't play games online.

As far as I can see, the major differences (some assumed) between Maxis and Unifi are

Maxis : Basically a rebranded Unifi without the HyppTV. high ping and bad latency. Bad news for online gamers. Some throttling on torrents (8pm to 2am?). No free calls to TM fixed line but does have a free RM30 credit for calls. Higher chance of implementing FUP before Unifi.

Unifi : Generally no problem but not so cost effective (due to the iptv service?). Also, problems with Chinese servers.

On a side note, both are subjected to a very volatile FUP and use the same infrastructure operated by TMnet.

Some would say my best bet here would be Maxis because I download like nobody's business (10Mbps vs 5Mbps). But it does not make any difference in the long run. One has only that much to download and that much HDD space and in the end the only thing you save is probably time. My question is does Maxis impose some kind of throttling if I download huge chunks of files (e.g hundreds of GBs) in the shortest time span possible allowed by a full 10Mbps speed? I do not download on a daily basis but when I do, I leave my PC to do it non-stop for days. Keeping that in mind, would Unifi make a better choice?

I do a simple WiFi scan and found out that there are quite a lot of residents using Unifi in my area (it is noticeable since they broadcast their SSID as xxxx@unifi). Not too sure about Maxis Home Fibre though. I was thinking maybe Maxis would be better if lesser people using it in my area? That is probably a very simple-minded apporach though. Bandwidth are not allocated that way after all. Correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry for the lengthy text and thank you in advance for your input!

p/s : First time posting after a while. Not sure if violated any posting rules. Sorry.
