Hi!

I've a Riger DB102, which has automatic PPPOE connection connected to D-Link DES-1016D Switch.

However, others computers connected to DES-1016D cannot connect to Internet.

But if I just connect to Riger DB102 (automatic PPPOE connection) directly from a computer, it can connect to Internet.

Please advice. Thanks in advance.

Have you heard of F-Secure Updater and Tuneup Technology Preview? It keeps your computer up to date and in tune.

F-Secure has announced the Updater and Tuneup Technology Preview 1.00 (build 907) on Thursday, November 05, 2009. Tuneup is best viewed at 1024 x 768 pixels.

More information is available in the technology preview release notes.

You can send private feedback by using the F-Secure Technology Preview Feedback form, or by taking part in the discussion here or at F-Secure forum.

What do you think about F-Secure Updater and Tuneup Technology Preview? Keeping all the programs on a computer up-to-speed with the latest updates can be a hassle. Periodically 'housecleaning' the system (like defragging the hard drive) in order to optimize performance is even less exciting.

So we'd like to help with that. We recently launched the trial version of a single tool that handles both these tasks - Updater and Tuneup - on the Technology Preview page, and we'd like to get some feedback on how well your machine performs after using the tool.

The name says it all really - the Updater component keeps track of vulnerable applications installed on your machine and notifies you when updates are available; while Tuneup takes care of the housekeeping - defragging the hard drive, checking the registry, etc - so your machine stays optimized for speed.

And to say thanks for the trouble, we're offering the following items as prizes to users who give feedback:

 • 5 boxes of F-Secure Internet Security 2010
 • 15 VIP Cards for F-Secure Internet Security 2010 and F-Secure Mobile Security

Giveaway is by lucky draw.

The trial version is free, and the Technology Preview period closes at end January 2010.

Give feedback on Updater and Tuneup Technology Preview and you might get yourself a brand new F-Secure Internet Security 2010 or F-Secure VIP pass!

Microsoft Office 2010 Thread

The truth is out there--sort of. While there are literally no firm details about Office 14--the version of Office that will succeed Office 2007 in about two years--Microsoft has finally begun discussing the roadmap for this release and the general direction it is heading. Presumably, we'll see more Ribbon-ized applications and a more customizable Ribbon all around, but we'll have to wait and see. No, it's not much yet, but here's what we know about Office 14.

Credit where credit is due: Stephen Chapman at Aero Experience was the first to discover and publish information about Office 14.

Q: What is Office 14?
A: Office 14 is the next version of Office 2007 (or what Microsoft calls the 2007 Microsoft Office System).

Q: What does the 14 signify?
A: 14 is the version number. Office 2007 was called Office 12 internally at Microsoft. The company skipped 13 for superstitious reasons.

Q: Is Office 14 the final name?
A: No, Office 14 is a codename only.

Q: When will Office 14 ship?
A: Microsoft plans to release Office 14 in the first half of 2009, about two years after the consumer launch of Office 2007.

Q: What about the beta?
A: Microsoft plans to ship Office 14 Beta 1 in the first half of 2008 and Office 14 Beta 2 in the second half of 2008.

Q: What applications/features/enhancements will Office 14 include?
A: No-one outside of Microsoft knows (yet) and to be fair, the feature-set for Office 14 is still being worked out.

Q: So what do we know about Office 14? Anything?
A: At this point, Microsoft is only talking in very broad strokes. (This is in sharp contrast to the situation with Office 2007, where I was able to discover a much deeper range of features about two years before that product shipped: See my showcase previewing Office 2007 for details.

Anyway, here are the current focus points for Office 14 at this point in time. This data comes from a Microsoft presentation, and I've reworded them to make them more readable and understandable in some places.

1. Individual Impact
Objective: Continued focus on individual productivity and effectiveness

Microsoft will continue to invest in providing tools for individuals to be productive and effective. The company will be working to make individuals more self-sufficient by enabling them to perform more sophisticated tasks themselves and providing more self and community-based help options. Office 14 will include improved search relevancy and refinement of the result-oriented database.

2. Communication and Collaboration
Objective: Enable better communication and more efficient information sharing to keep communities, co-workers, partners and customers in sync

Microsoft will continue to invest in team effectiveness and will be expanding this to include further unification of communications and the ability to work easily with partners and customers. There will be deeper Unified Communications integration with Office 14, including capabilities that make communications and collaboration more convenient to the user (regardless of device or connectivity) and manageable by IT (through unified identity and robust policy/compliance support).

3. Enterprise Content Management
Objective: Author, Manage and Organize Complex Documents and Content

Microsoft will expand what it provided in Office 2007 for document management to allow better management of complex documents and content. The company will be making sure it keeps the overhead of document management to a minimum and that it is simple for end users to participate in document management processes. Office 14 will include a flexible storage solution for Digital Asset Management.

4. Business Process and Business Intelligence
Objective: Make the right information available throughout the business processes

Microsoft will make it easy to find, analyze and use the expertise and data hidden within an organization and its business systems to make better informed decisions personally and within a team, while continuing to work within a business process or workflow. Office 14 will bring business intelligence (BI) to business processes, instead of having BI as an isolated and as-needed activity.

5. Office Business Platform
Objective: Make it simple to build client & web-based business applications

For corporate developers, Microsoft will deliver a platform on which they can easily build and deliver rich solutions that incorporate workflow, business system integration and Office client familiarity. Office 14 will include Declarative Programming advances and improved Business Data Catalog (BDC) integration.

6. Manageability and Security
Objective: Make it easy to deploy and manage around the globe

Microsoft has made great strides in the last few years on the security, reliability, and deployment of Office, and will continue to invest in these fundamentals. Microsoft will also continue to make global deployments easier with federated, offline and virtualized models. Office 14 will further improve offline experience in products such as SharePoint and assist global deployments via federated and virtualized deployments.

Q: When will Microsoft start working on Office 14?
A: As always, Microsoft works on the next two versions of major products like Office simultaneously. Since Office 2007 has been completed, the emphasis has switched now to Office 14. According to the company, it will spend 20 percent more on research and development for Office 14 than it did for Office 2007, or about $930 million each during development.

--Paul Thurrott
February 15, 2007

Source: Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows: Microsoft Office "14" FAQ

Microsoft plans to offer a Web-based version of its Office productivity suite, known as Office Web, that will debut with the release of Office 14. Office Web will include online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.

The next versions of Microsoft Office Visio and Microsoft Office Project will feature the Ribbon interface element used in other Office 2007 applications.

Source: Microsoft Office 14 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Microsoft Windows 7 Beta

Background: Windows 7 is the next generation version of the Windows Client.
Versions: Windows 7 x86 32 /64 Bit Client
Current public build: 7000

Q: Is Microsoft working on an operating system after Windows Vista?
A: Yes. The next client version of Windows was originally codenamed "Blackcomb," though the company renamed it to "Windows Vienna" in early 2006 and to "Windows Seven" or "Windows 7" more recently. I prefer Vienna, so I'll continue to refer to it by that name here.

Q: Why Windows 7?
A: Since Windows Vista is really Windows 6.0, Vienna will presumably be version 7.0.

Q: I heard that Windows Vista will be the last major OS release from Microsoft. Is that true?
A: No. Windows-based PCs will continue to form the center of our digital lifestyles, and as Microsoft executives have noted in recent days, there are still plenty of areas in which Microsoft can improve Windows. Some obvious examples include voice recognition and storage.

Q: So is Vienna going to be a major Windows version?
A: No. Windows Vista was a major release, and Vienna will be a relatively minor, or interim, update. Microsoft is currently on a development path where every other Windows version is a major release.

Q: When will Vienna ship?
A: Microsoft currently plans to ship Vienna in 2009, about two to two and a half years after Vista. The next major release of Windows is expected two years after Vienna, in 2011. (Windows Server updates are on a similar cycle.)

Q: What features will be included in Windows Vienna?
A: Microsoft hasn't publicly committed to any features for Vienna and the company is currently still deciding what this next Windows release will look like. We do know a few things about Vienna, however: It will include a new version of Windows Explorer that is being built by the same team that designed the Ribbon user interface in Office 2007. It will likely include some form of the "Hypervisor" (Windows Virtualization) technologies that will ship shortly after Windows Server "Longhorn". It will also likely include the WinFS (Windows Future Storage) technologies, though they won't be packaged or branded as WinFS.

Q: Will Windows Vienna be available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions like Vista?
A: No, Vienna will almost certainly ship only in 64-bit versions. This is in keeping with Microsoft's x64 migration schedule.

Q: Will Microsoft release any Windows updates between now and Vienna?
A: Yes. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1, codenamed "Fiji") will ship simultaneously with Windows Server "Longhorn" and will include a new kernel version that makes that release up to date with the kernel version in Longhorn. As such, we might consider Fiji a major release for a service pack: No previous service pack has ever included a major kernel update.--Paul Thurrott
February 14, 2007

Source: Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows: Windows "Vienna"/"Seven"/"7" FAQ

[addedon]January 8, 2009, 12:42 pm[/addedon]Information on Downloading and Installing Windows 7 Beta

On January 9th, the Windows 7 Beta will be available for Windows enthusiasts to download via the Windows 7 page on Windows.com. The Windows 7 Beta is going to be available download-only (we’re not sending out physical media) and available for a limited time to the first 2.5 million people who download the beta.

The Windows 7 Beta will be available in English, German, Japanese, Arabic, and Hindi, and each language will be available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions (except Hindi which will only be available in 32-bit). Because the Windows 7 Beta will be offered download-only, it will be provided to you as an ISO image (an .iso file) that you download. After downloading either the 32-bit or 64-bit ISO image of the Windows 7 Beta, you will be required to burn the ISO image to a DVD to install Windows 7. So you want to be sure you have a DVD burner before spending the time downloading the ISO image.

To burn the ISO image of the Windows 7 Beta to DVD, if your PC comes with Nero or Roxio products – you should be able to burn the ISO image to DVD. If you don’t already have DVD burning software on your PC, you can also check out ImgBurn which is free and can be downloaded here.

The Windows 7 Beta only supports Windows Vista SP1 to Windows 7 upgrades. So if you intend to do an upgrade – be sure it is on a PC running Windows Vista with Service Pack 1. We are not yet announcing anything regarding finalized upgrade paths for Windows 7.

The Windows 7 Beta will be only available in one edition, which is roughly equivalent the Ultimate edition of Windows Vista.

Also, another important thing to keep in mind is that the Windows 7 Beta will expire on August 1st, 2009.

http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/...ows-7-beta.aspx

Download: Microsoft Windows 7 Beta 1 Build 7000.0.081212-1400

Just caution with this man, ychwang.

My friends in the forum had alerted me that he sold a single unit of his MP3 to me as new one.

Source: Lowyat.NET -> [WTS] Sony Sport S205F Mp3 player 2GIG

If this guy is selling 2nd hand item to me as new item, please caution of him. He may repeat his tactic in the future.

When I asked him why he close the thread, he says that he has no stocks left. Strangely, as far as I know, I am the only one bought from him. I did PM everyone in the thread and none actually bought from him.

If I am wrong about ychwang, my sincere apologies to him.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

The content of a Chinese DVD that was burned using Ashampoo Burning Studio by another computer using LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S.

The DVD can be opened by that computer successfully without any Mojibake.

But when I would like to open it on a HP notebook, it could not read the content of the DVD. It even states that the DVD is 0 bytes. May I know how can I access the content of a Chinese DVD on this notebook?

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

Anyone can suggest me a good voice / sound recorder for recording purposes?

Preferable it is in digital format, e.g. MP3 or MP4. Easier to store in PC.

Anyone knows about a good recorder like it?

What brand and price? Anyone using any of it? What is your feedback?

Well, this device will be used for recording in meetings. It is also used by me to learn a new language.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

My computer is running well this while.

Yesterday, the computer stop responding (the screen graphics never updated) after I had plug in my mobile USB hard disk.

My computer had no problem using the mobile USB hard all the while.

After I press reset button on the CPU, there is no display on the monitor and no BIOS 'tut' sound after I restart.

Even after I unplug the power supply, the computer never display the BIOS screen.

So, I decided to unplug the front USB connector to the motherboard but to no avail.

Later, I unplug everything connected to the motherboard except the processor and system fan. I switch it on. I will give continuous short beep sound. The system fan and processor fan is running properly after turned on.

Accordingly to the manual, i stated that the continuous short beep sound is caused by power error. What is power error?

When I replug in the RAM, it did not make any noise at all after restart. Not even I had heard the normal BIOS sound. No display on the monitor also.

Does it mean my mother board problem? What is the problem on my CPU?

Please help...

My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G.
