Laptop won't boot despite being plugged in.

I'm using a Lenovo Y480 which is approximately 1 year old. Hadn't had any problems until today. So the situation is this:

Was playing bioshock earlier and had only been in-game for <5 minutes when my laptop just shut down. I initially thought the adapter cable had come lose earlier causing the battery to run down but the cables were all connected well when I checked. I took the battery out, unplugged the adapter and tried holding the power button for well over a minute before reconnecting the laptop to the power source but it still wouldn't turn on.

I don't think it's an overheating issue because, for one, I've played games before with no problem and also, the laptop didn't feel hot. But that's just my logic.

I've googled the problem but for most people, taking the battery out and holding the power button worked for them. So I haven't been able to find any issues similar to mine. Would appreciate feedback if anyone knows what's up with the laptop. Cheers.

Strange virus doesn't allow me to type properly.

Alright, this is definitely a strange one (to me, at least) so I'll try my best to explain it.

I'm running Windows Vista on an Acer Aspire M5201 PC. Because of what I think is due to a virus, I can't type properly. First of all, on the Vista login screen, when I try to type anything, instead of one character (or dot, in the password space), the entire space is filled up with that one character up till the character limit. For example, I press 'R' on my keyboard, instead of 'R' showing up on screen, something like 'RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... ' shows up. So I've had to login using the on-screen keyboard.

Also, everything on my screen appears to be in 'superspeed' mode. Example, the screensaver comes on in a matter of minutes when the actual settings for it are around 30 minutes. One minute(digit) in the clock at the bottom of the screen changes in 1 second(real time). The cursor icon for 'busy' spins very quickly instead of the regular rate of spinning. The 'needle' on the RAM/processor usage meters are going haywire by deflecting left and right extremely fast. I can't type anything because of the first problem with the typing. Also, for some reason, my PC won't recognize my external HDD. It shows up in Device Manager and I can view general things such as Properties, but I can't access it as it doesn't show up on the My Computer window.

I'm guessing reformatting is the most straightforward way of getting rid of this problem, thing is, I have quite a bit of important files (projects, etc) stored on my internal HDD. But since I can't access the external HDD, I can't back them up. So, now, what I'm really asking is, is there a way to somehow get the PC to recognize the external HDD so I can access it, or am I going to lose all my files from having to reformat the PC.

Also, I'm posting this up to see if there's a solution which I can do by myself without too much trouble, instead of bringing my PC to the repair shop.

Dan's training (rehab) log

Running Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 + Boring But Big program as of 18/7/2015

-----------------------------------------------------

Just started out on the 20-rep squat program. Good idea for some much needed mixing up of my training. So, I suppose a journal's the best way to keep track of progress.

This is the original 20-rep squat routine. 3 times a week for a period of about 6 weeks, which makes for 18 workouts.
Squat: 1x20
Pullovers: 1x20
Stiff-legged deadlift: 1x15
Pullovers: 1x20
Bench press: 2-3 x 10
Bent row: 2-3x15
Military press: 2-3 x 12

I've tweaked it slightly to give it a bit more volume to suit me. So this is what I'll be doing for the next 6 weeks.
Squat: 1x20
Pullovers: 1x20
Stiff-legged deadlift: 1x15
Pullovers: 1x20
Bench press: 4x10
Bent row: 4x15
Military press: 4x12
Chin ups/pull ups: 3 x Till failure
Push ups/dips: 3 x Till failure

Definitely not as much volume as a regular HVT routine, but this shit sure is tiring.

Completed 2 out of the 18 workout days so far.

Day 1:
Squat: 1x20x60kg
Pullovers: 1x20x15kg
Stiff-legged deadlift: 1x15x40kg
Pullovers: 1x20x15kg
Bench press: 4x10x50kg
Bent row: 4x15x40kg
Military press: 4x12x37kg
Chin ups/pull ups: 3 x Till failure
Push ups/dips: 3 x Till failure

Day 2:
Squat: 1x20x60kg
Pullovers: 1x20x15kg
Stiff-legged deadlift: 1x15x40kg
Pullovers: 1x20x60kg
Bench press: 4x10x50kg
Bent row: 4x15x40kg
Military press: 4x12x15kg dumbbells (all the barbells were being used at the time)
Chin ups/pull ups: 3 x Till failure
Push ups/dips: 3 x Till failure
