PC hangs

my pc hangs after i idle for like ten minutes... duno y... alt + tab still can use... but all the icons and start window icon cant press.. i'm usin win XP pro, and my maxtor hdd is making crack sounds... rams are ok, on water cooling, dat day got trojan and worm.. cleaned.. using NOD32 lagi... wat can causes tat? is FORMAT the answer?
