Regarding the topic, I need some information.

The situation is:

Let say we have a person with a name "Abdul Rahman Bin Limbong". I was told by one of my lecturer that the person needs to fill his name as follow:

CODE

First name: Abdul Rahman Bin
Last name: Limbong

And then, the student ID would take the first word in first name and the first word in last name, so the student ID card would be like:

Student ID: Abdul Limbong

So, it would kinda hideous, don't you think ? So, how to fix this issue? Can we use like

First Name: A. Rahman Bin
Last Name: Limbong

so the SID card would be

CODE

Student ID: A. Rahman Limbong

I believe that everyone's is not really aware about their glasses' power and polarize and all those coating stuffs. So, I do hope that experts in this field (preferably optometrist or students of optometry) to explain me as detail as possible.

Hi ....!

I'm opening this thread because I found out we have a squillion amount of oversea prep students in Malaysia, ranging from American Degree Program, A-level, IB, AusMat, Twinning and whichever related.

We are considered as the pearls of Malaysian bro! We have the opportunities to study overseas and people often look up on us. We should be proud, and we should study even more harder to make our country as a better place for everyone.

One thing that came across to my mind is - "hey, we should know each other". Hence, this is it. A thread for us.

-> Objectives ->

1. Information sharing :
Some of us are facing with information scarcity, mostly on the choices of university and also the application process (e.g. through CommonApp and UCAS). Maybe we should be sharing those stuffs here.

2. Exams:
As the oversea students, we should know what IELTS, TOEFL, SAT I and II, Cambridge / Edexcel are. These are important terms that we should know. Maybe we should share some tips and tricks here.

3. Gathering:
To some extent, we need to gather and drink coffee together, or watching movies on weekend. This is the purpose of the community - not only we are friends on the internet, but also in real life. Maybe we should meet up and talk about games, anime and whatsoever.

Confusion - CPU clock speed

Hi guys

I went to a computer store yesterday and I inspect most of the laptops in the showroom. I found these...

1. HP Envy priced at RM2.0 (approx), thin form factor with Core i3 Ivy Bridge clocked at 1.4 GHz.

2. Acer Aspire priced at RM1.8 (approx), standard size laptop with AMD A8 Quad-Core clocked at 1.8 GHz.

my questions are :

1. What can we do with a CPU clocked at 1.4 GHz... seriously??! I have an Atom-powered netbook clocked at 1.66 GHz and the performance is and only good with typical web browsing.

2. AMD A8 Quad-Core clocked at 1.8 Ghz... seriously? I mean, why the vendor (Acer) clocked it at 1.8 GHz? Is the performance as same as i5 clocked at 1.8Ghz? Or things that we call as "clock speed" is a relative measurement to the performance of the processor?

Further explanations needed. Thanks in advance for the help

HSPA/HSPA+ modem and prepaid broadband

Hi there

I need suggestions from forumers regarding about the best price for....

1. HSPA or HSPA+ modem. I heard that the price is about RM100 to RM150 but is there any chance for me to get cheaper than that?

2. Prepaid broadband. I'm not a heavy downloader. I just activate the broadband whenever I need only. Paying for 1 month or several gb is a little bit waste I think. Is it okay for me to use the RM5/daily for Celcom or I can get much better prepaid plan out there? I also heard that Yes 4G also has the prepaid plan.

Due to the indonesian unluckiness for last night event, some of malaysian sites with the cTLD .my domain got hacked. Me, not using the cTLD .my domain name by but neighbored with someone who with it. Thanks to the hosting, files on the server unaffected (but not my neighbor on the server, defaced and got directory deleted).

According to the pic above, Google Chrome reported my site as (potentially) phishing how. So, how this prob came out, and how to fix it? maybe this stuff should the server admin's concern but may I know how it can be, and how to remove the blockage into the site. Thanks for helping.

Upgrading and Overhaul a Desktop PC

My Desktop-PC undergoing the aging process and i think the HDD degraded. So, details for the hardware above needed.

1. The 300Gb (or above) HDD SATA
With the normal speed (7200RPM).

2. New casing (e-view might satisfy me)
With the 2 USB front-USB port, 3~4 Bay for the Optical Disk + HDD
Mid-size (or normal size for typical home user)

3. New Motherboard. I'm aiming for the ASuS GiGabyte or the ATI CrossFire X. Low cost but satisfying performance
a P4 or more advance motherboard may suit
*optional

4. CPU fan. Satisfying model may suit

Need the total money that I could spend. Please include the overhaul cost also. Below RM500?

Wireless, connected, no internet connection

I bought a new WiFi Router with no ADSL with it, only a WiFi Router.

Problem? When I connect, either the WiFi or Direct LAN to this WiFi Router, no internet access, either on Linux, or Windows.

Okay, I put the WiFi router away from my sight, grab my old ADSL WiFi Riger Router, connect everything and I've got the access to the internet, either wired or WiFi.

Then, I connect my Riger ADSL WiFi Router, then connect the LAN Cable to the TP-LINK WiFi Router (the new one), all LED are light's up (PWR, SYS, WLAN, WAN) and WiFi connection is successful. But, no internet access.

What's wrong with its configuration, or I should make myself ready to return it back to Dynabytes (the store).

Rule of Capacitors in Electronic Circuits

I've looked into a soundcard, a video card and the LAN card in an old PC. Just 5 minutes ago, I open a modem and I found something similar that exist very frequently in each of them.

The capacitor

I noticed that all of the cards mention aboved have a lot of capacitor. I can know them by looking it thoroughly and found the symbol of "farad" representing the unit carried by the capacitor.

Then, the capacitor with polar exist more frequently than the non-polar capacitor.

What is the rule of it? Yes, I know it can stored the electrical energy but what for?

my desktop getting noisy

my desktop getting noisy. i bet because due to too many processes running, causing stress to CPU. processes removed from task, still have the noise.

perhaps, i need to change the CPU fan, how much will it cost? do i need to change my PSU? my current model has the power about less than 500 something...

2nd problem

why i can run PES in WindowsXP but not in Win7, on the same laptop (Terengganu Computer, TC). If it is about the graphic memory usage by the Win7 that is higher compared to the WinXP, how to reduce it? i don't mind if i have to kill the aero as long as i can play PES 2011. Did GameBooster will help? or there is any other alternative rather than formatting again into XP?

Samsung SyncMaster 732nm not working

Assalamualaikum and hi,

i have an LCD monitor 17-inch, Samsung SyncMaster 732nm which is bought in 2007. Here the details of the problem

-When plugged in, the power button keep beeping and no display
-When plugged in to laptop, and dual-clone display selected, the laptop detect the presence of the monitor but the screen keep in blank
-when asked to the nearest technician / store, the assume that something connected to the display system corrupted (namely : tranduser)
-when repair, it will cost nearly rm200 with 3-months warranty
-i've checked all the cable, the WGA cable work pretty well on other monitors

so, what should i do now? if can, i want do fix it by D-I-Y

Installing Win7 Ult in Acer Aspire ONE D255

Hi there. This is my attemp to install the Win7 Ultimate into my Netbook, Acer Aspire One D255. Look at the spec below:

RAM 2Gb
HDD 320Gb
Intel Atom Processor

From the rumors that I already heard, when we attempt to install the Win7 ultimate into a netbook, the netbook performance will down. If you still wanna have the aero style, just use the Windows 7 Home Premium.

I just wanna know, did anyone already install into a netbook (as described above) and the performance still the same as the starter or not very slow. Need your opinion.

a website, at the US blocking some countries by their IPs. if i want to connect to the site and get some useful resources and codes, i have to use proxies and it is a sucking experience using the proxy.

i just installed GhostVPN into my system, but the app crash, briefly after initiation of the app. any suggestion or any VPN app that i can use, to enter the site that blocking our country IP.

do i need proper explanation about this? need your help guys.

hardware, surge, price

i'm looking around for surge protection extension, for home use. my pc and my monitor already explode because the main power socket seemly leaked and i just replaced it with the new one.

i'm looking for the surge protection. according to the thread that i refer to, surge extension limit the input voltage, and useful when the lightning and thunder fighting in the sky. tell me if i'm wrong.

second thing, i'm live in terengganu, and it is too difficult to check the latest price for new hardware. now, i'm depending on the hardware price that distributed by the viewnet. so, i'm requesting the list of price, from any company about hardware, all hardware from the chipset to the useless accessories, and the priority set to terengganu's company.

the 3rd thing, please tell me the comparison between the UPS, AVR and surge protection. just give me a link and i will read it.

4th thing, i wanna buy new LCD 17, price range between the Rm250 - rm 400, fresh from factory, not the second hand. which models suit with me? i'm using the 8400GS nVidia graphic card, and i want a plug and play monitor. provide me a list.

Here is the problem:

1- My school utilize the GiTN internet service provider (for school, with the websense filter). Before this, GiTN blocked almost all social networking but now, even porn site can easily surpasses the line at ease.

2- Social problem. Most of the students burn up their clock for FB, MySpace, Tagged and YouTube that actually bring almost no benefits to the school. So, it is really dissapointing when someone who tried to finish the paperwork doesn't get his/her chance at the PC Lab.

3- Game problem. Since the webfilter unable to run in green mode, so all games site a open widely. Irritating coz all the 5As UPSR and 9As PMR teenager play the games. Why they didn't utilize the net for searching some valueable information? Pathetic.

So, i just finished my research on "how to block the website but not permanent". I found the results. Take a look:

1- Edit the configuration file in the Windows itself. Just type in the CMD like this:
