Hi everyone,

I need some pointers on this problem I am facing right now.

First of all, since the first day I use streamyx at my new place (about 1 and half year ago), the connection had been stable and fast the whole time. Hardly any downtime and hardly ever experience any extremely slow connection.

Recently, the CCTV peeps changed my modem. Twice. Affected my connection but not much. Download and streaming still ok. My average download speed (direct downloading) is about 60-70 kbps. IRC download is usually about 80-100 kbps.

The problem started when the CCTV guy changed my modem again (3rd time) and added a booster. According to him, this booster is to expand the coverage and boost the speed.

However, what I get is a drastically decreased speed. While page loading is pretty fast, direct downloading and streaming is slow like hell. I'm experiencing like 10kbps for direct downloading. Sometimes, it just won't download, it will just stuck below 1kbps. Streaming takes forever even for 5 mins video on youtube.

I had called the CCTV guy once and told him about my problems. He said it could be streamyx problem but I doubt so.

So, my questions is, does the change of modem and the addition of booster slow my connection?

If not, what else could be the cause? Any idea?

I need some pointers on this issue as I am not knowledgeable about internet or any pc-related issue, so that I can have a better understanding before talking to the CCTV guy again.

Open Proxy

Recently I can't connect to Rizon in mIRC because I got k-line ban and blacklisted because I have open proxy.

I had this problem once a few years back but I managed to solve it by reading some sites after Googling.

However, this time, I can't find any solutions. I read up about this open proxy but I have no idea how to close it and I'm pretty confused now too.

I'm noob when it comes to PC-related stuff. I appreciate it if anyone can offer me a step-by-step guide.
