Upgrading to Unifi 30

Hi

I'm currently on a promotion price of RM129 for the Unifi 5mbps package. But if I were to upgrade to Unifi 30, my price would be 179, which is a RM50 extra. The promotion discount would be gone.

Anyone tried upgrading while maintaining the discount before?

Covillea vs KM1 West

Hi to all sifus and owners of the respective properties

I'm considering getting a unit at either Covillea or KM1 West. Haven't decided will be for own stay or for investment but would like to seek your opinion on the rental aspect and potential capital upside.

I'm very noob when it comes to property. Covillea seems pretty easy to rent out considering that IMU is just beside it. The rental seems decent as well. However, I'm unsure of any potential capital upside for it.

As for KM1, I think the capital gain potential is better than Covillea, but I don't think the rental would be as good as it though. And I could be wrong.

Would appreciate your feedbacks on this. Tq.

iPad Mini V1 Screen Problem

My iPad Mini V1 screen started to become dim and very hard to see, while the battery area (backpanel lower half) went super hot.

I closed all the opened apps, and it's still the same issue. However, it won't become hot if the ipad is plugged in for charging, although the screen still was dimmed.

Then now, the screen went totally black. I have managed to reset the device and set it up as a new device, and yet still the black screen problem remains.

It's currently on the latest iOS8 as a new install, meaning no installed user apps. The system should be functioning although I can't see the screen because when I press on HOME button, and swipe, then when I click on the Power button at the top, I can hear a 'click' sound, which is expected when switching off the screen with the power button.

It is out of warranty and I went to a shop to ask about fixing it. Troubleshooting it costs RM80, and if it's the LCD display problem it's a RM450 repair costs, but if it's soemthing else, then different cost. Won't know the exact problem until they test and diagnose it out.

Do you have any idea what's the problem and if it's still worth to repair it?

Creaking Sound When Moving MBP Lid

Am using MBP 13" 2013.

When I move the lid, ie the screen, either while opening or closing, or adjusting the angle of the screen, there seems to be a creaking sound. It sounds as though there's resistance when moving the lid.

Anyone of you guys experienced it?

For importing of perfume related (with alcohol content) eg cologne etc, I understand that it's not dutiable goods under Customs. However, are there any other taxes or permits that I would need to apply if I were to bring them in for resell purposes?

Selling A Car - Is This How It Is Done?

Hi

I'm planning to sell my car and it's probably going to be a cash sale since it's < RM10,000. Currently the car has been fully paid off, but I haven't done the relsease yet from the bank charge. However, I do have the bank's release letter with me.

In such circumstances, I have the following questions:

- we should normally get the buyer to use a bank draft?

- do we need to have a puspakom inspection and if yes, when should it be done? ie on the day of the planned transfer?

- do we actually need to have that particular car to be present when performing the transfer at JPJ?

- as for insurance, currently the grant is under my name. So when we go to jpj to transfer the name to the buyer, and the buyer has yet to have bought any insurance, does it mean that there's no insurance coverage for that short period of time?

Roku vs Apple TV vs ?

Hey everyone, Sorry for asking such a noob question. I tried to search over LYN but getting more and more confused. Haih.

I am planing to cancel my AssTeruk and looking for alternative.

Basically I need a device to plug to my TV where I can watch movies from 2 sources:

- streaming
- downloaded movies (eg from NAS storage or the device own storage or from a portable HDD)

As I understand, both roku and ATV doesn't have built in storage correct, and ATV can't be hooked up to a NAS without it being jailbroken.

Does that only leave me with Roku? Or is there other recommended media devices? Or ATV is still a better option?

Can roku be used to browse the net for streaming eg Youtube or AZDrama?

And can Roku be hooked up to a NAS?

Push Email Dilemma

Hi everyone

I have some questions and hope the experienced users can provide some guiding light for me.

What I'm looking for:
- Push email notification phone
- thethering (preferable but not a neccessity)
- spending the least amount neccessary
- in fact, I won't even be using this secondary line/phone for calls or SMSs, purely emails and tethering.
- phone design and added functionality (as long as they do the above) is irrelevant, call me old skool :-) So a cheap second hand phone is also not an issue.

The current scenario...

I'm currently using an iphone (not a 3G model), hence I don't use any data plan. I currently need to have push email notification.

From what I've read, the following have push email notifications:

- iphone - 2 issues with this. First is the lack of options in the alerts, all SMSs and email uses the same alert sounds, I can't differentiate nor mute either of them. Also, a new iphone with 3G is costly relative to other phones.

- Android - didn't know it can do push email until today. I've not used it before so I'm not sure if it works seamlessly with gmail for the push technology, or does it support tethering also?

- BB - of course they are famous for their push emails and they can do tethering. The phones are more expensive though as compared to android phones.

I'd appreciate your advise on which platform to get and which phone you'd recommend?
