[WTA] Advice for upgrading XPS 8300

Hello guys,

My brother hijacked my PC and dumped me his old PC Dell XPS 8300. I'm thinking to slowly upgrade the PC however the graphic card (5670) is dying hence I need replacement that I can use for my future PC, if possible.

The specs are:
Intel® Core™ i7 2600-CPU @ 3.4 ghz
8GB RAM
460W PSU (I think)

I have searched for same topic however the latest are from September 2013, hence rather than bumping an old thread, might as well create new one. Also, there's a difference on budgeting between the older thread and my case over here. Here are the references:

So I'm asking you experts in PCs, which graphic card should I buy that both future-proof for my future new PC (if possible), suits my PSU current wattage, and fits within my budget.
What I mean by 'my future PC' is that I want to buy a new PC however only have budget for a graphic card for now.

PC would not even go into BIOS

Hello everyone, I am facing issue that has been bothering me since I moved into new place.

The problem: The PC cannot be booted up, it can't even go into BIOS, even if it is, it just goes into BIOSTAR screen and pressing DEL to go into BIOS setup doesn't work.

The specs are in my signature. The PC is around 3-4 years old, bought parts and assembled by Cex, no changes since then except I've added the Megahalem CPU cooler.

Things that I had tried to troubleshoot the problem:
1. Plug in plug out the RAM, tried with one RAM, switching both RAMs, changing places, etc., same result.
2. Plug out every USB drives, same result.
3. Plug out all HDD and DVD drives cables, same result.
4. Reset CMOS using jumper
5. Plug out two PCI-E connectors from GPU and plug video output to the default motherboard graphic output, it booted up perfectly.

But here's the funny story, after I tried numerous times on number 1, sometimes it would boot up perfectly, I could even play every games with decent to high graphic without any problems on the game or BSOD or anything at all, in other words, after it booted up successfully, the PC has no problem at all! The problem starts if I shut down or hibernate the PC then try to turn it on again, then the symptoms would occur again.

I am currently in Singapore and have stayed in three different places, in first two places I had this problem only when I went back to Malaysia for over a week, when I return only I have this problem, but in those two places after it booted up I have no problem on powering it on again after I shut down or hibernate it. However in this current place, the method I was using is not applicable anymore.

Here's the situation when it doesn't boot up or stuck at BIOSTAR screen:
1. There is no changes in timing when it is booting Windows and shutting down if it was successfully booted up
2. HDD and all fans are running.
3. USB devices (mouse keyboard etc.,) are working.
4. There is no electric shocks when the case is touched
5. No smoke
6. Front LED power is blinking, if it stuck at BIOSTAR screen it is not blinking, but it is ON like normal
7. Red light on motherboard is blinking, if it succeed went into BIOSTAR screen, it will lid up like normal.
8. No capacitor on motherboard is blown

I have no spare parts whatsoever, but I am trying to upgrade my PC slowly by replacing items one by one, so I figure this is a good timing but I have to know what's been causing this problem, hence any help or helpful reply is very much appreciated, thank you.

tl;dr version: my PC cannot go into BIOSTAR screen and even if it is, it will stuck at BIOSTAR screen cannot go into BIOS setting, what do u think? kthxbai

Updating my rig

Hello Hardware enthusiasts. It has been a while since I followed PC parts news etc. Now I am going to update my 3-4 years old rig.

Hence I need help from you all, I intend to keep my CPU heatsink (I know it's a noob one), keyboard, mouse, and maybe monitor, depends on what you're suggesting (all those are in my sig).

I don't have preference whether it is nVIDIA or ATi, AMD or intel, for me it doesn't really matter.

I'd purchase the items by next month, however I can wait if there's item to be replaced has not released to market yet.

EDIT: oh wait, I don't think my cooler is compatible with the new socket (been living under the rocks this whole time, forgive me)
BTW, I intend this to be my gaming machine, like my current one, and I game mainly latest games and occasional retro games.

I'm taking IT Course in Information System major right now, and it's already my second week.

The thing is, after 2 weeks in classes, I got some kind of dilemma, I feel IS is soo much theories, while I don't like theories at all. Well I don't expect there's a major that all practicals and no theories, but at least there's least theories.

I'm thinking to change major to Computer Science, as tomorrow is the last date to change major. I like Java so far, as my college is teaching that method.
But I'm ok/average only at math, not good not bad. That's my only concern right now.

Any suggestion guys? Thanks.

Hi Moderating team.

I just wanna give some feedback for Gamers Hideout as I always around there to see some information of latest PC game news. However, I find it that some of the threads in Gamers Hideout are out of topic, and usually to be honest some /k/ people come in only to spam to get post counts.

Well, even though some are "mentioned" PC game, but not entirely, so mod also actually can't do anything about it, if it's closed or deleted sure there will be a complain or two. Even there's a thread that not even related to game at all! It's almost like people sharing how their life in MMORPG explaining style.

So my suggestion is, why don't we make the GH or even CC (Console Couch) disabled the post count, isn't it fair for everyone? And also it might make moderator Ah WanG does lesser job as he needs to moderate a lot of other sub-forums and forums.
