Hi, need some input from anybody who have used data recovery software before? If you have, please share your experience, data recovered, software used and price of software.

Problem is a friend had wanted to re-install his computer, asked a friend to install windows then only realized the friend had actually formatted his harddisk to install the windows.. So my friend had lost important data which he stored in the same partition (his friend just formatted the disk without checking with him).

Now he needs to recover the data and looking for reliable software. FREE reliable software most preferable. Let me know if anyone've used these 'data recovery software' and are they any good?

Thanks a lot for your help!
