Anwar sues PAS MP for defamation over ‘RM1 salary’

KUALA LUMPUR: Anwar Ibrahim has filed a lawsuit against Kuala Terengganu MP Ahmad Amzad Hashim for allegedly issuing defamatory statements that the prime minister lied about receiving a salary of RM1 when he was Selangor’s economic adviser.

Anwar filed the suit through SN Nair & Partners in the Kuala Terengganu High Court, naming PAS’ Amzad as the sole defendant.

Anwar’s lawyer SN Nair, told Bernama that the suit was filed just before 4pm this afternoon.

In the statement of claim, the Pakatan Harapan chairman said the defendant had made several statements to a group of customers while dining at a restaurant on Dec 7.

Anwar, who is also the PKR president, claimed that the statement was subsequently published on TikTok under the name @nelly3868 on the same day. The post received more than 4,980 views, 62 comments, 116 “like” buttons, 18 “favourite” buttons and 50 shares. It is still accessible on TikTok.

Anwar said that the statements implied, among other things, that he was untrustworthy and dishonest about receiving millions of ringgit from the Selangor state government when he was its economic adviser.

It also implied that he deceived the public by stating that he received a salary of RM1 as an economic adviser, committed a criminal offence and betrayed the people’s mandate.

Anwar claimed that the slanderous statements were false, malicious and disparaging, adding that he was highly respected nationally and internationally as someone who was against corruption.

He also denounced allegations that he was politically motivated.

“The defendant’s allegations in the defamatory statements are unfounded and I was portrayed as an ex-convict although I have been given a royal pardon,” Anwar said in the statement of claim.

Anwar said the defendant had deliberately and maliciously ignored former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s statement at the Selangor state legislative assembly in 2012 that Anwar had received a symbolic sum of RM1 as the state’s economic adviser.

He said that on Dec 8, his lawyer issued a notice demanding the defendant to withdraw, apologise, promise not to repeat the statement and pay damages but there was no response.

Anwar is seeking general and compensatory damages as well as aggravated and exemplary damages. He is also asking for an injunction to restrain the defendant from further publishing or distributing similar defamatory statements.

KUALA LUMPUR: Just seven days after filing defamation suit against Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) head, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is now going after the coalition's chairman today.

Anwar, through his solicitors SN Nair & Partners, filed the suit at High Court, here, this morning and named the former eighth prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the defendant.

The suit was filed against Muhyiddin over his statement delivered to hundreds of supporters during Padang Serai parliamentary seat campaign earlier this month, that alleged Anwar received RM15 million from the Selangor state government when the latter was serving as its economic advisor.

my friend & i both ordered stuff on lazada last week & until now our parcels are just sitting in the courier's warehouse.

lazada told us to wait until last get by date. but what happens if still no delivery after the last get by date?

Withdrawal of account 1 of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is extended to contributors who experienced a decline in income during the year.

Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said, now contributors who are facing salary cuts, or can not find additional income through overtime work can also apply.

Those who are no longer active contributors or working in the affected informal sector are also allowed to make withdrawals.

Contributors who previously could make withdrawals up to RM9,000 are allowed to make withdrawals of RM10,000.

"Just show proof that (you) lost your job, were given unpaid leave, salary deduction, allowance or OT (overtime), or income reduction for the self-employed," Zafrul said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Sony boss says it's GAME OVER for PlayStation 5 until 2021.

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan confirmed in a new interview that Sony's launch stock of PS5s has now been completely depleted.

Speaking to Russian outlet TASS, Ryan stated that “absolutely everything has been sold” with regards to current PS5 stock.

Question about refund procedure

I pre-ordered the PlayStation VR months ago from sony store and I paid in full with my credit card. Now I see the price has dropped & I went back to sony store to ask about the refund.

The staff there wanted to take photocopies of my IC card & my credit card to process my refund. Now I want to know why my IC card is needed besides my credit card to process my refund. Is it standard procedure for any merchant to ask for customers IC card when doing refunds?

Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma Extend (PS4/PS3)

Blazblue will be making its next gen debut in the form of Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma Extend, Famitsu has shared.

As far as new content in the inevitable Extend version of the game goes, console players will get to play as Celica Ayatsuki Mercury and Lambda-11, two characters that were added to the arcade version of the game in its 2.0 update.

Famitsu also shared that the game will have some additional story elements for the game as well.

BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend will release in Japan on April 23, 2015 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
