What About a Disc Game?

I'm trying to popularize a game based on frisbee with relaxed rules compared to Ultimate and more emphasis on basketball style gameplay. If you like frisbee (Aerobie Sprint Flying Ring) and would like to meet up in PJ to test out Ultimate with attack-enchanced rules read my page below (which contains some other related stuff too):

I'm often at the basketball court near Tmn Bahagia LRT with my Sprint disc. Maybe if the game turns out well there can be a championship cup for youth or under 21 around Merdeka day. I'm 36 so I probably will be more of a player coach substitute or purchaser / quartermaster. Feel free to email me at the page footer.

songwriting partner needed

I've got a small home recording setup in my room here in PJ
and I'm good at writing melodies and lyrics. I'm just a keyboard
player and prone to writer's block halfway through a song.

I could use some help to get some tunes out the door. Just came

Slow to launch apps in Gnome

Since I installed Samba and successfully connected to my company
network ( by adding fileserver IP address to hosts ) my Gnome apps
including Terminal are slow to launch. About 1 - 2 minutes delay.

This only happens when the LAN cable is unplugged. When there's
a connection ( even to my Streamyx account ), the apps lauch as
normal.

What could be wrong and how can I fix it?

Connecting to Windows Server 2003

I have installed samba but cannot connect to the Win2003
server or any peers from my ubuntu laptop.

If I manually set my IP address, I can see the other PCs
but it kind of screws up the network.

I can use "smbclient -L server" to get some info on the server
but that's it.

Nautilus file manager shows a windows network icon but it's
empty inside.

Also, I made a user for myself on the win server but it says
it wants to install some stuff on my laptop.

Can someone point me to some instructions?

Will Tiger be discounted after Leopard release?

Noise on the USB bus

I connected a pair of Sonic Gear Morro speakers to an old PIII computer.
There is quite a lot of static and small popping noises.

I think the USB amp in the speakers is picking up some noise from the PC.
This doesn't happen on my other PC. Are there any filters I can plug in or
anything I can do besides changing my mobo?

Gimp Font Crash

Recently I removed some foreign fonts (tamil, thai etc) from
usr/share/fonts/truetype

Since then, Gimp crashes when trying to use the text tool.

Today, I restored the foreign fonts and Gimp was back to
normal.

However, I would prefer not to have these fonts installed as
the font list becomes too long, especially in WINE apps.

What can I do? I have Ubuntu Edgy and Gimp 2.2.

font cache with this command:

sudo fc-cache -f -v

But can anyone can tell me why WINE shows 6
copies of the same font?

Orienting A Mic

I just bought the above mic from pasar road yesterday
and I"m not sure if it should be positioned standing straight
up or pointing directly at the sound source.

There is a bar across the mesh that suggests you sing into
the mic sideways.

It doesn't give you much feedback as to when the
connection has been established and so on.

Linux Dislikes My NTFS Partition

I'm not able to get my NTFS partition writable under Linux.
It will mount and I can browse and copy files over to my
Ubuntu partition but I can't make changes to it from Linux.

I tried to format the partition as FAT32 but failed. Maybe at
32 gigs it's too big?

What can I do to make the partition shareable between Win
and Linux?

I've been using a Lenovo N100 for a few weeks.
Lately I noticed in device manager, a SCSI controller.

Ubuntu Linux reports the drive as /dev/sda

Could this be the new Serial Attached SCSI HD?

But SCSI in a laptop seems a bit strange right?

Keeps disconnecting my Streamyx

Everytime the line is idle for a few minutes the connection
will drop and I have to do "poff" "pon streamyx again"

When there are downloads going on, the connection is fine.
I guess there's some activity so it stays alive.

What can I do?

ThinkVantage Rescue And Recovery

I have finally got my (company owned) Lenovo N100.

However, it seems that Rescue And Recovery was not
included. ( R&R was my main reason to buy Lenovo )

I downloaded it ( 211 MB ) and installed it to the best
of my ability.

Can anyone tell me how to back up my system and all
the data to the hidden partition on my HD?

I tried to create the 'media' but was not able. Perhaps
it is already created? The HD has 2 partitions: C & D
and a .gho file on D. ???

Sometimes I can't connect for the whole day even
though it didn't rain. Sometimes 2 days.

I suspect my modem is going bad but how do I check
it? Could it be the TMnet servers? Anybody else can't
log in?

Speaker cones with 2 bumps

Hi,

Some speakers like mine have 2 bumps on the
cone surface coming out from the dome.

Is this bad for sound quality? Is it better to have
a speaker without the 2 bumps?
