Which laptop?

After the chipset problem and probably the MOBO problem soon on the hopeless and famously useless HP Compaq V3000 that I bought slightly over a year ago... Im saving between RM 1,700-00 to RM 2,000-00 to get a decent laptop similar to the one I have.
1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, WiFi...burner, built in card reader....
What do you Gurus and users think of the brands ACER..DELL or LENOVO?
Are they really reliable stuff?

Hi gurus and users!
Im thinking of dumping my slightly over 1 year HP Compaq V3000 laptop - apparently..there's been many complaints about it MOBO and Chipset which went dead with me :-( and then Im planning a budget of RM 1,700-00 to RM 2 K for a reliable laptop.
I use only for surfing, word processing & burning CDs - thats all..as well as to speak with my wife & son over MSN
Video.
I just need something with at least 1GB RAM , 160GB HDD...the usual and with WiFi too.
Is ACER or Lenovo highly recommended?
About slightly over a year ago, I bought a Compag V3000 laptop @ Asahi PC in Wangsa Maju. I bought it just for surfing and word, hv installed Kapersky and Malware anti spyware.
But just today...I started it up and nothing came out - just a black screen though the LED lights were all there to see.
Bought to Asahi ans the technician says...HP Compaq always have this problem but why on earth didnt they advised me when I bought it in the first place?
Ive been a loyal customer....for almost 3 years but Asahi did not practise professionalism and accountability.
So.. tell me.... agak2..whats wrong with my laptop?
The techinician says...chipset.... betul ke?
He says itd cost about RM 400 to have it repaired..or did he meant replaced?
Any advices for me to all you Tech Gurus?
Think u can email me directly?
jungletrekker@wildmail.com

Techies CAN survive in the jungles!

We have just had a most interesting and amusing time in the jungles with a bunch of techies and IT savvies deep in the hot and steaming jungles of Ulu Terong, Perak where a group of 26 so called nerds, techies and IT savvies decided to forget their laptops, notebooks, desktops, PDAs and cellphones and spend a good 4 days & 3 nites in a most natural and basic setting - the practical jungle survival course!!!
Led by ex malaysian VAT69 & GGK operators, this motley bunch of not so fit city folks initially looked out of place wearing cheapo rubber trekking shoes, light rucksacks over their shoulders, handmade bamboo water containers and sharp machetes around their portley waists but surprise... surprise... they can actually handle themselves well in the jungles.
Some smokers were bemused that they had to rub 2 dry bamboos together in order to light up their cigarettes and some whose usual meals in between their work on the laptops or desktops were junk food, had to dig and cut food procured from wild plant life!
They also had to learn to cook their food in bamboos where the food would stay edible for the next 7 weeks as well as learn how to cook rice in an empty mineral water bottle as well as go fishing using empty mineral water bottle too!!!
A few usually had their GPS navigational system to guide themselves around the city and country as well as Garmin GPS while cycling but in the jungles... they never had these gadgets but had to rely on their instincts and keen observation on creepers and vines that twirled around trees for directions!!!
We'd take in techies and IT savvies anytime for our next survival course.....at least we now know people who can give us free advice the next time our desktop PCs get hit by a virus!!!
Three Cheers for the Techies and IT Savvies...
www.jungleschool.com.my
