Widow wants you to know DJ Husband died!

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/02/health/d...eath/index.html

Nicole Buchanan wasn't even allowed to say goodbye to her husband.

Three weeks ago, Conrad Buchanan was a healthy, vivacious Florida DJ who loved dancing with his daughter.
But on March 14, the 39-year-old started feeling sick. His wife Nicole tried to get him tested for coronavirus, but was denied.
"We couldn't get him tested. I fought and fought and fought," she said.

"They didn't want to test him due to his age and (because) he had no underlying health issues."
By March 22, Conrad's condition had deteriorated so badly that Nicole drove him to the hospital. The young father was intubated immediately after he was dropped off.
Nicole went to park the car. She never saw her husband again.
"I walked up to the doors. The hospital's on lockdown. They wouldn't let anybody in after that," she said. "I never got to say, 'I love you.'"
Conrad Buchanan had no underlying health conditions, his wife said. She has coronavirus as well.

Conrad Buchanan's death illustrates the harsh reality of Covid-19: No one is immune from this disease, and even young, healthy people can die from it.
Young adults can spread coronavirus without knowing it. But they can also help stop it

"I need everybody to know that this is serious. People think that it's just going to affect people with underlying health issues, old people. But it doesn't," his widow said, weeping.
"And seeing what my husband had to go through was horrible. And now our life has turned into this horrible nightmare."
Nicole, too, has tested positive for coronavirus. She said her symptoms are not severe, but she has lost her senses of taste and smell.

The couple's daughter, Skye, is waiting for her test results. She said the loss of her dad is catastrophic.
"We just overall shared everything," Skye said. "He brought me to school, he brought me to ballet. He was my everything."
Nicole and Skye Buchanan were not allowed to visit their husband and father during his final days.

Skye said she misses her dad's valiant attempts at dancing. Conrad performed with Skye during a father-daughter day at Skye's ballet school, though he dropped her during a lift.
"It was funny because he could perform in front of like millions of people when he DJ'd, but (when) he danced ... it wasn't the best," Skye said with a laugh.
Now, Skye is left with just memories of her dad -- and an important lesson he taught her:
"Find your rhythm in life. Listen to the beat. Dance and express yourself in order to connect with people from all walks of life," she said.

Nicole Buchanan said she wants everyone to stay home and take precautions so no one else has to suffer what her family has endured.
"You guys have to take this seriously," she said. "I would hate for anybody -- anyone else's family or children -- to have to go through what we've gone through. Our hospital systems aren't ready. Just stay home."

Dr Amar said lack of Test

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/202...covid-1/1852600

KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — The number of positive Covid-19 cases in Malaysia may have spiked in the last two weeks under the movement control order (MCO), but experts still view this amount as a sign of under-testing.

According to Malaysia Medical Gazette managing editor Dr Khoo Yoong Khean, the number of new cases per day actually hovers between 100 and 200.

“[Although] a few spikes [above this range were recorded] on average, it looks about the same on the graph.

“Actually, I would have expected more cases if there was an increase in testing. We will have to double check on testing numbers and compare against new cases to see if there is a concurrent rise,” said Dr Khoo.

At the moment, the country is expected to record a higher number of positive cases with increased testing, as well as a big cluster — stemming from the tabligh group (which is believed to have spread to the fourth and fifth generation), Dr Khoo added.

Under-testing

But, in general, Dr Khoo said most experts agree that Malaysia is still under-testing, when compared to South Korea, for example.

“If you would like to compare, don’t use the total number of tests, but tests per million population.

“According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), Malaysia did 39,663 tests. That’s around 1,255 tests per million people.

“South Korea is doing 6,500 tests per million people and Singapore is doing 6,800 tests per million people.

“So, higher new positive cases alone don’t basically show the true picture. Also better to refer to death cases and/or ICU (intensive care unit) cases [basically check against severe cases] to see the true picture of the outbreak,” Dr Khoo told Malay Mail when contacted.

He, however, said Malaysians should only start worrying if the projection for hospital beds, ICUs and ventilator capacity cannot match the rise in cases.

“So, in a way, by testing more, we know the true picture of the outbreak and can prepare adequately,” he added.

Similarly, senior consultant paediatrician Datuk Dr Amar-Singh HSS said total test numbers compared against the Malaysian population is very small if juxtaposed with other countries such as South Korea or even Singapore.

“We don’t look at positives as indicators of our epidemic because MOH is not testing enough.

Health Ministry personnel screen the homeless for Covid-19 before sending them to transit centres during the MCO March 30, 2020. — Picture by Choo Choy May.
Health Ministry personnel screen the homeless for Covid-19 before sending them to transit centres during the MCO March 30, 2020. — Picture by Choo Choy May.
“Once you are not testing enough, you cannot look at test numbers to indicate your epidemic. You look at deaths,” Dr Amar said when contacted.

At the time of conversation with Dr Amar, Malaysia had 37 deaths.

Assuming 1 per cent of all patients die (a very conservative number), Dr Amar said 1 per cent means for every one death, there are 100 positive cases. So, according to him, 37 deaths means that there are 3,700 positive cases.

“How many do we have now? We have 2,626 cases.

“But you see, 3,700 cases based on the number of deaths is not today’s number; it is a number from four weeks ago, because if you get infected, it takes about 10 days or two weeks before you are presented with symptoms.

“Then you are placed on a ventilator or in the ICU before you die. Three to four weeks ago, our epidemic size was 3,700. What’s the epidemic today? It cannot be 2,626, but it’s not 3,700, then what is it today?” he said.

Malaysia’s current death toll is 43, and the total number of positive cases is 2,766.

He further elaborated that health-related non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are concerned because Malaysia is not testing enough.

“The groups have been pushing MOH to just test. They don’t seem to be listening to us,” he said.

Not everyone is tested

Dr Amar also claimed that not every individual from the tabligh group has been tested.

“They didn’t test every one of the tabligh individuals because MOH’s policy is that they are only testing symptomatic people.

“They are not testing people who have come into contact that are not symptomatic.

“Say, you have Covid-19 and you met 10 people. Only two have runny noses, they will test those, but the other eight they won’t test,” he added.

On March 30, MOH revealed that 14,111 samples were taken and 8,083 tested negative.

However, Dr Amar said there was no indication of the status of the remaining samples.

MOH also reportedly said that 5,084 from the tabligh cluster have yet to undergo screening.

Health workers test members of the public for Covid-19 at the Section 7 Mosque in Shah Alam March 26, 2020. — Picture by Yusof Mat Isa
Health workers test members of the public for Covid-19 at the Section 7 Mosque in Shah Alam March 26, 2020. — Picture by Yusof Mat Isa
“Understand that saringan is not testing, but only screening.

“Those with no symptoms — those who have not been tested — they could be the spreaders. So we don’t know how many of them are spreading it.

“Are the tablighs sitting at home? Or went to the surau? We don’t know. Did they go and talk to their neighbours? We are in a mess,” he said.

Dr Amar also urged the relevant quarters to increase considerably the number of tests conducted.

“We need to ramp up our tests enormously,” he said.

Who needs to be tested?

Explaining how mass testing can be done, Dr Amar said it does not include society at large.

“Mass testing means we test everybody who has come into contact with a positive case. Now we’re only testing symptomatic individuals.

“We test all healthcare professionals who become ill because they are on the front line and they are very likely to be infected.

“Service providers — our delivery chaps, people who work on the front line and cashiers — these people are high-risk groups as they meet the mass community every day,” he said.

The other group that needs to undergo tests would be those in an area where a massive outbreak occurs, Dr Amar added.

On March 25, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said mass testing for Covid-19 would be done by MOH in high-risk areas to curb its spread in the country.

Muhyiddin reportedly said that MOH will therefore increase its capacity to conduct screening tests on a larger scale.

Dr Amar added that Malaysia needs all hands on deck if it wants to overcome Covid-19.

“Malaysians and all NGOs have to come together to work towards overcoming Covid-19.

“We are better than some of the countries that are currently fighting the virus; we just need to capitalise on it,” he said.

More tests, more positive cases

On the other hand, Dr Khor Swee Kheng, who is part of the newly formed Malaysian Health Coalition, said with more testing, the number of cases in Malaysia will definitely rise.

A lab technician processes a test sample during a screening process for the Covid-19 virus at the Institute for Medical Research in Kuala Lumpur February 26, 2020. — Bernama pic
A lab technician processes a test sample during a screening process for the Covid-19 virus at the Institute for Medical Research in Kuala Lumpur February 26, 2020. — Bernama pic
“But rising numbers of cases can be both good and bad. Bad because we don’t want people to be sick. Good because mass testing will tell us who is sick so they can be treated or isolated so they don’t pose a risk to other people.

“Good also because we can track those who have been exposed to sick patients, so we can again reduce the risk to others. And finally, good because it means that scientists will better understand how the infection spreads, and that will help us manage the MCO better,” he said in reference to the movement control order that is currently in place across Malaysia.

Weighing in also on the possibilities of positive cases increasing, Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) president N. Ganabaskaran said testing for Covid-19 is currently focused on suspected cases and contacts of infected persons based on the criteria in MOH’s Covid-19 guidelines.

“The number of cases we see now per day may be due to the increase in screenings being done per day on Persons Under Investigation (PUI) as well as more participants and contacts from the Jamek Sri Petaling Mosque tabligh gathering who have come forward for testing.

“About 95 per cent of participants from the tabligh event have already come forward for testing, according to the IGP (inspector-general of police).

“About 62 per cent of Covid-19 positive cases are linked to the cluster from the event,” he said.

Currently, screening capacity using the RT-PCR (Real-Time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) method is progressing from 7,000 to 16,000 tests per day.

“It is of paramount importance that the public offer their full compliance to the MCO or there will be a further spread of infections, resulting in our nation’s healthcare system being overwhelmed,” said Ganabaskaran.

Why not do mass testing earlier?

According to Dr Khoo, mass testing requires a lot of resources.

“Testing kits, lab capabilities, manpower to do the swabs. I think we were caught off-guard by the tabligh cluster, meaning we raced to track them and deploy tests.

“(We are) limited by general resources like manpower and labs.

“It is, however, very hard to match resources like South Korea, for example. They have large-scale drive-through testing. In the end, we can only work within our limits,” said Dr Khoo.

Dr Khoo also pointed out several reasons why Malaysia could not test everyone earlier.

“The main reason is that our domestic production of test kits is low, concentrated primarily in the Institute of Medical Research.

“Global production of test kits was also low in the initial stages of the disease, and any production in China, South Korea or Taiwan was understandably kept for domestic use, not for export to Malaysia.

“Also, about a month or so ago, the number of recorded cases in Malaysia was relatively low, which meant that mass testing wasn’t considered the first public health priority,” he added.

Is the MCO working?

Asked when Malaysia will see if the MCO is working, Dr Khoo said this is a little hard to determine at the moment because the number of positive cases is expected to rise from increased testing. Yet, at the same time, the country wants to see a decrease in positive cases as a result of the MCO that’s currently in effect.

“Information from contact tracing will help here, to see where the spread is coming from.

“If we continue to see sustained fourth to fifth generational spreading and beyond, this may mean that the MCO is not working,” he said.

Previously, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham has said that the number of cases fluctuated during the first phase of the MCO but rose in general.

He also cautioned that the next two weeks of the MCO are critical in determining if Malaysia can effectively suppress Covid-19 infections.

On April 1, Malaysians entered their third week of restricted movement, which was extended from its original end-date of March 31 for another two weeks and is expected to come to an end on April 14.

That may be as many as 25%," CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield told NPR.
Coronavirus task force could soon recommend Americans wear masks
Coronavirus task force could soon recommend Americans wear masks
To prevent further spread, the nation's top infectious disease expert says health officials are now re-examining guidance on face masks.
Dr. Anthony Fauci said he would "lean towards" recommending that the general public wear face masks "if we do not have the problem of taking away masks from the healthcare workers who need them."
If federal officials recommend the widespread use of face masks, it would be a stark reversal from recommendations by the World Health Organization and the CDC, who have said face masks should only be worn by health care workers, those who are sick, and those who are taking care of someone sick.
People around the country are sewing masks, and hospitals welcome the help
People around the country are sewing masks, and hospitals welcome the help
"There is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any potential benefit," Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO health emergencies program, said Monday.
"In fact, there's some evidence to suggest the opposite in the misuse of wearing a mask properly or fitting it properly."
The US could have 2,000 deaths a day
More than 186,000 people in the US have been infected with coronavirus, and at least 3,852 have died.
White House officials predict more than 100,000 people could die from coronavirus -- and that's if the public practices social distancing guidelines perfectly.
By mid-April, when the virus is projected to hit the country the hardest, as many as 2,000 Americans could die each day, a model cited by the White House shows.
Fact-checking Trump's comments on coronavirus
Fact-checking Trump's comments on coronavirus
Health officials saying measures working to curb the spread of the virus are the only hope for keeping the death toll in the thousands and not millions.
If Americans don't follow social distancing guidelines, worst-case modeling projects up to 2.2 million people could die, said Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator.
More than two dozen states have issued stay-at-home orders, and the federal government extended social distancing guidelines to last through April 30.
Birx said there's no easy way to fix the coronavirus pandemic. It's up to the public to help stop the spread.
"There is no magic bullet," she said. "There is no magic vaccine or therapy. It's just behaviors.
Ramadan Bazaar is Cancelled in Selangor.

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/202...mb-says/1852450

SHAH ALAM, April 1 — Ramadan bazaars throughout Selangor will be cancelled until further notice due to the Covid-19 pandemic, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today.

He said the decision was made during the state exco council meeting earlier today.

“It will be cancelled until further notice, or until the Health Ministry gives the green light for it to be held, subject to stringent policies including social distancing and the like,” Amirudin said during a press conference at his official residence in Seksyen 7.

The mentri besar was announcing Selangor’s two-phase Covid-19 economic stimulus package worth up to RM400 million, which included RM9.5 million in aid set aside by the Selangor Zakat Board (Lembaga Zakat Selangor) for 20,000 B40 families, primarily aimed at small traders or hawkers whose livelihoods have been disrupted by the pandemic.

“Each family will receive between RM200 to a maximum of RM500 per individual. The payments began on Friday (March 27) and are expected to be completed by this coming Friday (April 3),” he said.

Selangor follows in the steps of Melaka, Negri Sembilan, and Terengganu — all who have cancelled this year’s Ramadan bazaars as part of their efforts to stem the number of Covid-19 positive cases from increasing.

The package’s other benefits include a one-off payment of RM200 for 2,500 Selangor residents currently studying at public universities in Sabah and Sarawak, at a cost of RM196,800.

“To lighten the burden of higher education students in Selangor, the state government will also defer the automatic loan repayments of borrowers, starting on April 1 until September 30, as well as setting aside RM6.07 million to provide free food aid to them via their universities.

“Up to 2,700 participants in the Smart Sewa scheme will have their monthly rentals postponed from April to June. All taxpayers will be granted a one-month extension on paying their land and parcel taxes, starting on May 31 to June 30,” Amirudin said.

RM500,000 has been allocated for agropreneur aid, benefiting 5,000 farmers and fishermen and ensuring a constant supply of food for them. 2,000 farmers, breeders and fishermen will be assisted in terms of crop seeds, livestock, tools and raw materials, at a cost of RM1 million.

He said the few other Chinese on the streets also wore them, anxious not to spread the virus to others.

"My Italian friends looked at me oddly. I tried many times to explain to them that they should wear them ... but they didn't understand," Luca said.

"When I came back to Prato, no Italian authority told me anything. We did it all by ourselves. If we had not done it, we would all be infected, Chinese and Italians."

Italy was one of the first nations to cut air links with China, on Jan. 31, though many of its Chinese residents found their way home via third countries. On Feb. 8, almost a month before closing all schools, it offered students returning from holidays in China the right to stop attending classes.

"In Prato, there was a boom in take-up," said local health director Berti, saying families had been obliged to contact his authority if they wanted to pursue this option. It was then that he began to realise how differently the Chinese were behaving.

More than 360 families, or around 1,300 people, registered as having put themselves into self-isolation and also signed up to his authority's health surveillance scheme, which monitored symptoms remotely and communicated with them in Chinese.

As Italian infections began to take off in late February and early March, some families, many of whom retain Chinese citizenship, even began sending children to relatives in China, alarmed at the attitude and behaviour of Italians around them.

Another who went into self-isolation after returning home from China was 23-year-old university student Chiara Zheng.

"I was conscious of the gravity of the situation. I felt a duty to do it for other people and those close to me."

(Additional reporting by Elvira Pollina in Milan and Angelo Amante in Rome; writing by Mark Bendeich; editing by Philippa Fletcher)

Here comes the Butthurt Mushigen and gang!

[YOUTUBE]jk3Z-MVoUg4[/YOUTUBE]

The two sides of Dr Ong Jogging . 50/50

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/518008

CYT: The MCO was not implemented evenly in the country. On its first two days, March 18 and 19, we in Petaling Jaya were allowed into Gasing Hill Park (Hutan Pendidikan Bukit Gasing) to jog or hike as long as you don’t form groups.

The notice was put up at the main entrance with emphasis “Jangan berkumpulan atau berhimpunan”. But a few days later, the park was sealed together with all parks in Petaling Jaya.

Does it mean Ong was unlucky to jog in the wrong park?

Vijay47: I may seem heartless but cardiologist Dr Ong Hean Teik deserves to be charged on two accounts – for being outdoors without any valid reason and secondly, for not complying with an order from an authorised officer.

The defence of being alone and therefore, in accordance with the social distancing standard does not hold water, warm or otherwise.

You are not allowed to be outside your home except for certain reasons, that’s it, no talk no argument.

Further, where you are outside for an acceptable reason, you are nevertheless required to maintain social distancing - two different requirements, two different circumstances. Ong has rightly been charged.

That said, I am amazed at the conditions heaped on him. He has to surrender his passport, he has to report to the police station every month.

We all agree that the corona storm is serious but for heaven’s sake, he is not a terrorist or a bank robber - he was convinced, wrongly, that being on his own he could do his exercises outside his home.

A total of 649 persons have been arrested, presumably for breaking the movement control order (MCO) law, and I would expect that they were not immediately charged. In that case, were they asked to surrender their passports and report to the police every month?

The doctor was merely going for a jog, he was not running from the law.

MS: A cardiologist who misreads the intent of the MCO, running to keep his heart pumping and then wham - this RM13,000 heart-stopping bail with the possibility of other penalties down the line.

It looks to me like a bit of overreaching after the initial reluctant to immediately cease all religious gatherings on Fridays.

And the MCO-instigated chaos which resulted in thousands thronging transport terminals and police stations to break all social distancing rules only points to the confusion and misinterpretations sweeping through all enforcement agencies in the early days of the MCO rollout.

So, couldn't the court have exercised its discretion and issued a stiff verbal warning and perhaps ordered a couple of days of pro bono medical duty in any neighbouring hospital?

The man has some medical expertise, and he could have been made to do "national service" like some of our ministers.

Libra: Oh my god. It seems the person was charged out of anger. Seriously, what crime? He did not comply with the order. It was not a strict order to stay at home. People were allowed to go out, isn't it? Moreover, he was on his own.

All that was necessary was to give a stern warning. It was a first-time offence, wasn’t it?

Sniper: The police officers were very polite. The matter could have been resolved by Ong apologising and returning home. Dear doctor, nobody likes this MCO but you can still exercise at home. You won’t find sympathies here.

Anonymous_1e23ccf0: I think we are getting it wrong here. He was running by himself and in an open area. What was the risk other than infringing the MCO?

Staying at home and social distancing is really about keeping that distance from neighbours and strangers.

It is not a complete lockdown. It is perfectly okay to jog or walk in a relatively open area as long as you watch your distance from others and maybe wear a face mask. That is how it is practised in most countries.

Anonymous_7531583036317406: Yes, and this is exactly the problem with the MCO. There are too many grey areas to the point that authorities are taking action as they see fit.

Does MCO, when it was first announced, prevent jogging? No. As long you keep a distance of two metres away from the next person that’s fine.

GooseNBanter: Ong jogging at the empty park wasn’t the danger. What is dangerous is that it is wrongly sending out a message to others that it’s fine to come out and jog in the park.

In a week’s time, perhaps there would be another hundred Ongs seeing that jogging in the park is fine - the ones who believe that the health benefits of jogging outweigh the risk of contracting Covid-19.

And all it takes is for one asymptomatic person at the park to cough, sneeze, use the restroom, or touch common surfaces at the park and Penang is the next epicentre in Malaysia.

Ong should forget good lawyers and just comply for now. Perhaps he should shop online for a treadmill.

Commenter: Yes, a sick person may be doing exercise outdoors and coughing and sneezing everywhere.

He could be blowing his nose on the grass, throwing tissue paper with his snot into a dustbin, touching the handrails, walkways, et cetera. Strong wind might even cause the virus to be airborne.

Why take the risk? Help the frontline nurses and doctors. Staying at home is much better than staying in an intensive care unit.

Cyclonus: Shame on those flouting the MCO and especially this man from the medical profession.

He may be thinking that being alone in the park he's not spreading anything or getting infected by anyone, but Malaysians are so hardwired to herd mentality that if we see one person do something forbidden without repercussion then it's okay to do it too.

Next thing you know, we'll have the whole community going jogging, biking, hanging out at the mamak shop, go for Friday prayers, et cetera, which defeats the outbreak control measures.

The greatest enemy in this war against Covid-19 is not the virus but ourselves.

The above is a selection of comments posted by Malaysiakini subscribers.
https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/202...ns-told/1851566

UALA LUMPUR, March 30 — Parties from both sides of the political divide must put their differences aside and unite to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Only a non-partisan approach can boost the government’s efforts to check the disease and minimise its impact on the people and the nation, said political observers.

“No matter what their personal or party agenda is, now is the time to put it aside and focus on efforts to contain the crisis,” said Prof Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, head of Governance and Integrity Cluster at the Centre of Government Studies, Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Speaking to Bernama, he said party leaders and politicians should help to disseminate accurate information to the people and appeal to them to comply with the movement control order (MCO) and follow advisories issued by the authorities, as well as their recommendations, to mitigate their exposure to the virus.

“This is the time for our politicians, no matter which party they belong to, to show their maturity by setting aside their ideologies for the sake of the people and the nation,” he said.

He said Malaysian politicians could take a leaf out of the book of their counterparts in China, the United States, United Kingdom, Iran and some European nations who have joined forces to fight the pandemic.

Strict yet gentle

Urging Malaysians to act responsibly and give their full cooperation to efforts to control the spread of Covid-19, Ahmad Martadha said although the nation is now going through an unprecedented crisis, the government has been able to handle it with its decisive yet prudent approach.

He said in the series of announcements made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after the enforcement of MCO, he was seen as taking the gentle approach in advising the people.

“In social media, many people commented that in his second live address on March 18, the prime minister was like a father who is advising his children to stay home and take care of their health.

“We should appreciate the gentle and prudent ways of our leaders in dealing with this disease which has now become a global menace,” he said, adding that the strategies unrolled by the nation’s experienced leaders will prove effective in managing the challenging situation prevailing in the country.

Testing times

Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor senior lecturer Hairol Anuar Mak Din, meanwhile, urged politicians to use their influence in positive ways, more so now when the nation is facing testing times.

He said some politicians had questioned the government’s decisions to enforce MCO, deploy the army to help the police monitor the people’s compliance with MCO and allow workers to withdraw part of their savings from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

“This is the first time our government is dealing with such a crisis and controlling the spread of Covid-19 is not an easy task. The government is trying its best to bring the situation under control to ensure the safety of the people and is implementing certain initiatives to help those who have been badly hit by the crisis,” he said.

The governments of other countries like China and Italy, he added, have enforced a curfew to curb the spread of the virus.

Last Monday, Muhyiddin announced that beginning April 1, EPF contributors aged below 55 can withdraw from Account 2 a maximum of RM500 a month for a period of 12 months.

The government will also channel an additional RM130 million to the various states to help the state governments to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19crisis. Muhyiddin gave his assurance that equal allocations would be given to the states, irrespective of the parties ruling them.

“The crisis we are facing is affecting all the rakyat regardless of race, religion or political alliances,” he said. — Bernama

Apart from Vietnam, rice is imported from other producer countries like Thailand, Pakistan, Myanmar, India and Cambodia.
