Photography to videography transition questions

Hi guys! I've been taking pictures for quite awhile now and would describe myself as sort of an intermediate when it comes to all things photography, but am nearly clueless when it comes to videography.

As I'm planning to pick up some video skills, but I was wondering if anyone can direct me to where I can find resources to pick up the basics.

Some stuff I want to know about...:

1. How do you acquire focus? I can't seem to zoom in while recording using my 6D, so I was wondering if I have to download something to get the feature.
2. How do I learn about the file quality and codec stuff? Frankly I'm pretty unsure what S-LOGII means or what it means for a camera to have a good codec and a bad codec.
3. What are some good YouTube users with good guides for beginners when it comes to using software to process these stuff?

Actually answering (3) would be the best bet. There seems to be many channels out there giving tutorials, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could suggest some users with good quality videos/tutorials!

Thanks a bunch!

Should second-hand companies be allowed in LYN?

Okay. I don't know where to put this, my post is probably too long for the Feedback sub-forum and neither is it serious/controversial enough to be in RWI (which is full of people who think they know more than they actually do). This is not meant to be a debate or anything, as I wanted to hear some feedback from LYN users about something I've observed in the Garage Sales recently.

Many of us use LYN for the Garage Sales sub-topic because of the sheer amount of users we have on LYN and how there's some degree of safety trading here (e.g. you can trace a seller's feedback and sales history) and it's definitely convenient and has grown a lot since the forums first started out. I remember being so worried about buying a 2nd hand bag over LYN over COD when I was still Form 5 because I was afraid that there were rules in LYN about dealing with minors. Yet I had a good experience and have since used the Garage Sales for buying and selling many things as I think 2nd hand goods are usually more worth it than brand new products.

However, recently I've noticed that plenty of the traders in LYN are actually companies who would approach the various individual sellers (including myself) in the garage sales to buy from them at reasonably low prices (though many times I get unfairly low offers). It's definitely been here for a long time, it's just been increasing in number recently such that most of the times I hardly get offers from legit people interested in buying my 2nd hand stuff, but from companies wanting to lowball me.

I'm not so confident about this argument, but I think companies should only profit if they have something of value to add to the consumer. What value do these trading companies offer? I suppose they offer sellers a quick way to liquidate their belongings rather than to wait for a willing seller, and I can see how this is beneficial. Personally, I'm very supportive of businesses like kldslr.com (not affiliated with them at all) who offer services very much like what I can find in the UK: They are accessible enough such that all you need to do is contact them or bring your stuff to them, get a quote and sell/trade in for higher value. Not only are they offering fast cash for equipment, but they also allow photographers to trade in their stuff for a higher value than what they would get for cash alone for their next upgrade.

I think the trouble I have with these less professional LYN companies is that instead of sellers going to them, they come to the sellers, sometimes very aggressively. My thoughts are that if this happens then the following are likely
1) They can dominate the market and buy up majority of the 2nd hand stuff, and thus inflating the prices of 2nd hand goods. And it's not like the sellers themselves benefit from these higher prices as well.
2) Because of their buying power, they can potentially mislead/deceive (and they've tried it with me) people about the true value of their products, which is unethical.

Here's an example to illustrate my point:
Abu had a MacBook that he wants to sell. Upon checking the average prices in the Garage Sales, he finds two other people selling the same model in roughly the same condition with a price range of 4800-5000. Esther is in the market for a 2nd hand MacBook, but wants to do more research before pulling the trigger because as an end consumer, she would have to make sure it serves her needs well. Company X decides to PM all three of them and tells them that, even as a "Pajak Gadai" sort of company, they have been receiving offers of 4500 (of course, they're lying, but no one can actually validate this) for the same model. After some negotiating, they manage to buy all three MacBook's at a price of 4600 each (adding 100 to make the sellers feel better), which isn't a complete scam price.

Of course, Company X then sells these MacBooks at a price of 5200-5300, and now Esther has no choice but to buy it at a higher price. But it's not like the 2nd hand macbooks are REALLY worth that price, since the market value was slightly lower than that previously.

It's never that simple, but this roughly encapsulates the potential problems I see that can arise. (If TL'DR, I think just read my illustration to get a gist of what I'm saying. Though do consider the rest of what I say if you're going to offer replies)

My suggested solution is not to ban them, but to maybe give them a special tag so that everyone will know that they are NOT buyers truly interested in a 2nd hand product for their own personal use, but are companies who are out to profit from sellers. This will make it hard for them to pressure sellers in unethical ways, and community members who want to keep the Garage Sales prices low can know who to avoid.
All this can be avoided by knowledgeable buyers/sellers of course, but not everyone has the time to keep up to date with who's-who in the Garage Sales and to slowly track the prices of sold equipment (people don't usually display the price at which they sold their stuff for in their threads)

This isn't something I have strong views on, so I am very open to changing my mind. I decided to write this after having a few of these "companies" lowballing me and being rude to me whenever I start a sales thread. I would definitely appreciate other views here, since I'm not very convinced of my own arguments myself!

Neighbors renovating, need advice

Hi there,
I've just returned from the UK and am currently trying to enjoy my holidays while doing some side work on my desktop.

However, only when I arrived was I told by my parents that the neighbors were doing renovation work.

Now, I was fine with this given that they tolerated our renovation work. However, the drilling started and it's extremely intense. At this point, I'm ok with them doing it in the afternoon despite it distracting my work, yet today they started work before 9am and sometimes they end very late in the evening, which is extremely unpleasant (can feel the ground shake) and despite thinking that the holidays will be a good time to keep up with sleep, I end up having to wake up earlier than I have to.

Question: How do I go about resolving this? I don't have anywhere else to stay and I will probably only start my internship in the weeks to come. They're renovating from 2 story to 2.5 story, so I'm abit skeptical if it's legal.

My parents have good relationship with the neighbors, but they don't give a crap because they're not hugely affected (my room is right next to the drilling room, so the noice and shakiness is most intense).

Do you guys think I can make a case out from the angle of public nuisance to the police or should I go through MBPJ? If MBPJ, how do I actually complain to them? Their website for aduans (I assume this means complain) is quite dodgy and I'm not sure if I can write in BM.

Orthodontist recommendations?

Hi guys, I've got a Tempomandibular joint problem where if I open my mouth a certain way, there will be an annoying clicky feeling at my jaw. It happened after I took out my braces for awhile and wore retainers. I talked to my orthodontist about it and he just told me not to open my mouth too wide. Yet the problem isn't because of wideness per se, but dependent on the position on my jaw. I find that my usual biting patterns tend to cause the problem, which is really annoying.

No pain, but it's been more than a year and I want to get some professional advice. Anyone know some good orthodontists in the KL/PJ area?

Asus H170n WIFI problem

Hi guys! I just built a new mini-ITX rig and am enjoying it thus far. However, after the OS is installed (windows 10 64-bit), I realized that it doesn't detect any Wi-fi networks even though the adapter is present and drivers are up to date (I installed win10 drivers from GIGABYTE website). Can't be a wifi problem because my phone is receiving wifi. How do I fix this? Should I send it back to the shop to RMA?
