KUALA LUMPUR: Seorang bekas menteri yang juga pemimpin politik ditangkap khalwat bersama wanita dipercayai pengasas pertubuhan bukan kerajaan (NGO) oleh Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) pada Khamis.

Difahamkan pemimpin berusia 44 tahun itu ditahan pada jam 6 petang di Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Kedua-dua individu terbabit kemudiannya dibawa ke Pejabat JAIS di Shah Alam untuk proses dokumentasi.

Sementara itu, Pengarah JAIS, Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, berkata mengesahkan bahawa satu tangkapan berkaitan kesalahan khalwat membabitkan figura awam dilakukan di sekitar daerah Petaling pada jam 6 petang, semalam.

Beliau berkata, dua individu ditahan bagi membantu siasatan berhubung kesalahan yang disyaki dilakukan di bawah Seksyen 29 Enakmen Jenayah Syariah (Selangor) 1995.

"Jika disabitkan kesalahan, pesalah boleh dikenakan hukuman denda tidak melebihi RM3,000 atau penjara tidak melebihi dua tahun atau kedua-duanya sekali," katanya dalam kenyataan, hari ini.

Sehubungan itu, JAIS menasihatkan umat Islam agar tidak mengaibkan mana-mana individu dengan menjadikannya bahan spekulasi, perdebatan dan fitnah dalam apa juga cara.

Tropicana wins defamation suit over viral video of damaged unit

Court awards developer RM300,000 in damages after finding buyer’s representative acted maliciously.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tropicana Corporation Bhd and its subsidiary Tropicana Residences Sdn Bhd have won a defamation suit against Tan Song Kwan over viral videos showing him damaging a condominium unit with a sledgehammer.
Judicial Commissioner Nixon Kennedy Kumbong today awarded the two companies RM300,000 as a global sum for general and aggravated damages, plus RM50,000 in costs.

The damages carry interest at 5% per annum from July 11, 2019, the date the writ was filed.

The suit arose from a dispute over defects in a unit at Tropicana’s KLCC development, after Tan, acting as a representative of a purchaser, took matters into his own hands and smashed parts of the property.

The incident was filmed and circulated widely on social media, appeared in newspapers and was broadcast on national television.

In finding Tan liable, Nixon held that the plaintiffs were expressly identified in the videos and statements, which repeatedly referred to Tropicana and its representatives.

The court also found that publication had been established through evidence that the videos were circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp, broadcast on NTV7 and with screenshots appearing in The Sun and Chinese-language newspapers.

Two independent witnesses testified that they saw the videos before Aug 25, 2019, with one describing them as having gone viral among people following property matters.

The judge rejected Tan’s contention that the plaintiffs had recorded the videos and negligently allowed them to be disseminated.

Regarding malice, Nixon said Tan’s preparations before the incident – including obtaining a sledgehammer, helmet, gloves and goggles – supported the finding that he had acted maliciously.

Tan had also admitted that he had prepared to smash the unit.

The court rejected his reliance on freedom of speech under Article 10(1)(a) of the Federal Constitution, noting it was subject to legal restrictions, including laws against defamation.

The plaintiffs were represented by Nicholas Kow, Emile Ezra Hussain and Nur Amelia Izlyn, while Tan was represented by Jessie Koh.

Police investigations revealed that the arrested man arrived in Malaysia alone from Vietnam on the 3rd of this month, intending to travel to Puncak Alam, Selangor, to meet a friend he hadn't seen in a long time.

During initial questioning, the man denied involvement in the Genting Highlands gold shop robbery.

Police have not yet recovered any items from him, and urine tests are still underway; police will continue to investigate whether he was involved in the robbery.

Police are investigating the case under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code (robbery in gangs and armed robbery).

The arrested man has been granted a seven-day remand, from the 4th to the 10th of this month.

On August 17 this year, the police received a report that three masked robbers, armed with axes and crowbars, stole 81 pieces of jewelry weighing a total of 2.5 kilograms and worth approximately RM1.74 million from a jewelry store on the second floor of Genting Highlands Skyway in about two minutes.

After successfully robbing the victims, the robbers fled the scene in a BMW registered to a man in Ampang, Selangor.

So this fridge I bought from xxx electric shop. Buy on half my owner for the tenant.

Since my gf cousin teached me how to buy from pinduoduo, I bought like over 15 items within 1 day. And the amount bought I think lesser than RM70.

I think back in 2024 my car kena flooded. 2004 honda accord. At pudu. Parked there then realised I can't do anything coz too late. Car edi half under water, can't start.

But I super happy about it. Coz I bought that car in like 2019 with RM24k.

After 5 years of driving, they actually declared my car as total lost because they can't find a replacement part for my car. Pay me back 21k.

Fuhhh, 5 years depreciated only 3k. I still remember people say me sohai buy old secondhand car. Totally worth it. 5 years driving D segment although it's older version.

There is a newly completed project. The developer super suck. House with numerous defects. And it's been over 2 months haven't fixed everything. So I advice landlord to ignore the small defect and just fix on the important and obvious defect.

So leftover was 2 important defect. A very obvious cracked tiles at the living room and a water leaking stain above on the ceiling of masterbedroom. Long story short. Reported many times but no action taken. Go bising at dev office. Bring their manpower go see. Say will settle. Visited like more than 7 times. Still same issue.

Then sending reminder and demand letters. They still don't bother to fix the 2 issues.

Boleh claim tribunal edi?
