GIS Software

Hello everybody, I am not sure in any time of history there are ppl posted this thread before, but I am here to share what I know at the moment for GIS software for Geographical Information Specialist.

Here is the list of software that quite popular:

Commercial:
1.ArcGIS by ESRI (includes ArcVIEW, ArcEDITOR)
2. MapInfo by Pitney Bowes
3. Erdas Imagine by ERDAS
4. ERMapper by Earth Mapping

Open Source:
1. MapWINGIS(Strongly recommended for Window-Based User)
2. GRASS-GIS (by U.S Military, open sourced for public use)

Personally I have experienced in MapWinGIS and all of the commercial products, customization for MAPWINGIS is so easy with both VB6 and .NET language, you can easily get over with it, due to its flexibility of creating Shapefile and viewing raster image file.

By the way, there is referrence manual for MAPWINGIS minimal functionality available on the net by just google it. Thanks to the open source team that contributes their effort.
