KOTA BHARU, May 2 — Police have confirmed that the body of a 19-year-old woman found with 61 stab wounds near a padi field in Kampung Simah, Ketereh, early yesterday morning, is that of a college student.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the victim was a semester three student at a local college.

Speaking to Bernama last night, he said police are actively tracking down suspects involved in the case.

NILAI: Police raided an illegal entertainment outlet at Taman Semarak 2 near here on Friday (March 13), believed to be employing Myanmar nationals as guest relations officers (GROs).

Nilai OCPD Supt Johari Yahya said 11 Myanmar nationals - two men and nine women aged between 19 and 53, were detained during the operation.

He said the raid at about 3.30pm was conducted by the D7 Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Negeri Sembilan police headquarters, with assistance from the Nilai district police headquarters.

"Initial investigations found that the premise was operating as an entertainment outlet employing foreign nationals as GROs, who were paid RM10 per hour to accompany customers in karaoke rooms,” he said in a statement on Saturday (March 14).

Johari said further checks revealed that the foreigners had misused their social visit passes to work, while several individuals did not possess valid travel documents to remain in the country.

He said police also seized various equipment used for entertainment activities, including karaoke song selection tablets, microphones, audio systems, television sets, business record books and 49 cans of alcoholic beverages believed to be untaxed.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1998, Sections 56(1)(d) and 6(1)© of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, and Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. — Bernama

A married primary school teacher has been jailed for nine years for 'violent acts of a sexual nature' against a male pupil aged 11.

Anna Plaksyuk, then 25, forced the boy to kiss her on the lips and touch her breasts, the court in Leningrad, Russia, was told.

She kept him in after class, locked the door, and 'stroked his private parts through his clothes'.

The paedophile teacher sent nude pictures to the boy, and demanded them from him.

She was caught when the boy's mother found the explicit WhatsApp messages and photos, and immediately reported the woman to the school director in Toksovo, Leningrad, and the police.

The boy's mother accused the teacher of 'systematic flirting, stroking and kissing'.

The teacher - now 27 - confessed to the secret meetings with the underage boy in her locked classroom.

She told police the boy had 'shown signs of attention' for several months and 'made compliments' to her.

The child sexual abuse was going on for four months.

The 'popular' teacher has been in pre-trial detention for more than a year.

She was convicted of 'violent acts of a sexual nature committed against a person under 14 years of age', and was banned from teaching for one year after her release.

Her husband has not commented on his wife's dismissal from her school and conviction.

Initially, parents refused to believe the allegations against the teacher, and defended her, it was revealed.

One parent described her as a 'dream teacher' and colleagues praised her, saying they had not noticed the woman's 'dark side'.

Her social media status said: 'You can't hold a man back with anything - not with children, not with youth, not with your stomach, not with blackmail, not with hysterics.'

The boy did not go to school for a prolonged period after the teacher was detained, his mother said.

As the US President's tariffs on China stand at 54 per cent — and are expected to increase to 104 per cent — experts are warning Hollywood's golden ticket into the Asian market could soon become obsolete.

Variety is reporting that among a series of retaliatory tariff measures from China, there could be a ruling on American film distribution.

The publication said according to influential Chinese social media figures, China may be set to reduce or slap a complete ban on US film imports.

Experts say Chinese authorities are weighing the drastic step in direct response to Trump's tariff plans. They maintain tight control over foreign film imports, which can only be distributed through state-run enterprises, Variety highlighted.

Films are brought in either through a limited quota of 34 "revenue-share" films or as "flat fee" deals.

Hollywood's major titles, such as Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and the upcoming Superman film, are expected to play a crucial role in reaching that target.

The absence of these marquee films, however, could severely impact those projections, Variety said.

Despite the escalating trade tensions, some believe the threat may be more rhetoric than reality. Sources close to the situation also told Variety Marvel's Thunderbolts* has already secured a China release date for April 30, suggesting the potential ban may not be imminent.

Insiders also claim the China Film Bureau has yet to issue new directives regarding the importation of Hollywood films.

Some of the biggest US movie hits shown in China include Avengers: Endgame, which grossed over US$600 million and Avatar: The Way of Water, which earned US$250 million.

Other notable successes include The Fate of the Furious, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Jurassic World.

In 2024, China's box office collected US$5.8 billion (S$7.8 billion), but projections suggest this figure will rise 30 per cent to US$7.6 billion this year.

KOTA BHARU - Polis Kelantan mendedahkan seorang kanak-kanak lelaki berusia 11 tahun telah menghamilkan sepupunya yang berusia 15 tahun dipercayai atas dasar cinta bawah umur.

Ketua Polis Kelantan, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat berkata, kejadian yang dilaporkan berlaku minggu lalu itu menyebabkan kanak-kanak lelaki terbabit ditahan bagi membantu siasatan, manakala sepupunya diserahkan kepada Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM).

"Kes sumbang mahram di Kelantan sangat membimbangkan, apabila saban tahun kejadian rogol melibatkan bawah umur yang dilaporkan adalah kerana suka sama suka, bukannya paksaan.

"Tahun lepas sebanyak 252 kes direkodkan manakala tahun sebelumnya (2023) 206 kes. Tahun ini, dari Januari hingga Mac sudah meningkat 15.6 peratus jika dibandingkan tempoh yang sama pada 2024," katanya dalam sidang akhbar di Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen (IPK) Kelantan di sini, pada Rabu.

Menurut beliau, hasil siasatan pihak polis mendapati 98 peratus kes rogol di Kelantan berlaku kerana suka sama suka.

Ujarnya, lebih membimbangkan apabila kes tersebut melibatkan mangsa di bawah umur serta terdapat trend kanak-kanak perempuan mencari lelaki.

Mohd Yusoff memberitahu, hasil pemeriksaan terhadap telefon milik kanak-kanak perempuan terbabit banyak menemukan video serta gambar-gambar porno.

"Hasil penemuan kami juga mendapati kanak-kanak perempuan ini sanggup merekod gambar atau video bogel mereka dan dikongsi kepada lelaki yang baru dikenali melalui media sosial.

"Masyarakat terutama ibu bapa, pihak sekolah diharap tidak cuba menyembunyikan kes rogol melibatkan sumbang mahram terutama kanak-kanak. Kena lapor pada kami," katanya.

Menurut beliau, pihak polis bukan hendak mendedahkan peningkatan kes rogol di Kelantan, tetapi ingin menekankan masalah sosial yang sedang berlaku di negeri ini.

Ujarnya, hasil kajian pihak polis mendapati bahawa faktor seperti konflik keluarga, hubungan cinta, pendedahan kepada video atau gambar lucah, kurangnya didikan agama, pengaruh rakan sebaya, serta penggunaan dadah antara punca utama berlakunya perbuatan terkutuk tersebut.

Beliau menambah, 30 peratus daripada kes rogol dan sumbang mahram disumbangkan oleh penggunaan dadah, berdasarkan ujian air kencing yang dijalankan.

Rape and incest reports surge 22% in Kelantan, says cops

KOTA BHARU: The number of rape and incest cases in Kelantan has increased but investigations showed that many were consensual sex, says Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.

He said 252 cases were reported in 2024 compared to 206 cases in 2023, an increase of 22.3%. What was more worrying was that some of those involved were as young as 10 years old.

Among the factors contributing to this situation are family conflicts, parental neglect, underage love affairs and easy accessibility of pornographic materials on mobile phones, he told a press conference here on Wednesday (April 9).

"I want to stress that police alone cannot tackle this issue effectively. It should involve all quarters, including educational institutions, the community, imams, village heads and parents," he added.

Mohd Yusoff said there were also cases of teenage girls bringing boys home without objection from their parents.

"Many students also keep pornographic photos or videos on their handphones. Some even recorded themselves naked and sent the images to their newfound friends on social media," he added. – Bernama

In a recent interview with Inverse, the John Wick and The Matrix star revealed that after years of trying to bring a follow-up to life, the creative team is making progress.

According to Reeves, a story has finally been put together and pitched to DC Studios, which gave the green light. “We’ve [along with director Francis Lawrence] been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘OK.’ So, we’re going to try and write a script,” he explained.

'Depraved behaviour': Jail for man who raped stepdaughter, asked her to record him and her mother having sex

The 29-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane by the High Court.

SINGAPORE: In addition to sexually abusing his 11-year-old stepdaughter, a man asked her to record a video of him and her mother engaging in sex.

The 29-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane on Monday (Feb 24) after pleading guilty at the High Court to charges of aggravated rape, sexual exploitation of a child, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Another nine charges of a similar nature, including performing sexual acts of self-gratification in the presence of the girl, were taken into consideration for his sentencing.

All parties in this case cannot be named due to a gag order protecting the victim, now 13, and her mother's identity. The mother and the accused's parents were present in court for the case.

SHARED SLEEPING QUARTERS

The accused, a Singaporean, married the victim's mother and they moved into a one-bedroom flat in 2019. The victim's mother brought along her three children from her previous marriage - the victim and her two older brothers.

The two brothers took the sole bedroom, while the mother would share a mattress with the accused in the living room. The victim slept on a sofa beside them.

The offences occurred over November and December 2022.

On the first occasion, the accused woke up in the wee hours of the morning while his wife slept on next to him.

He felt frustrated as he had been interrupted by the victim, who walked into the living room when he was having sex with her mother earlier. This had resulted in a quarrel between himself and his wife.

The accused decided to watch porn on his mobile phone and to pleasure himself. He noticed the victim watching him, but did not care.

The man then made the girl perform a sex act on him and touched her despite her resistance.

"The accused told the victim to trust him, that he will not hurt her, and that he would 'make it fast'," Deputy Public Prosecutor Ng Jun Kai told the court. He stopped only after the girl complained of pain.

After the incident, the man told the victim to keep the matter to herself, adding that he only did what he did to her because she had interrupted him earlier during sex.

While she felt uncomfortable, the victim did not tell her mother about the acts as she was afraid her mother would get angry.

A few days later, the accused again woke up in the early hours and wanted to have sex with the victim's mother, but she did not respond to him. He decided to pleasure himself again knowing that the victim was awake. He asked her if she would like to "do it again" but she refused.

The accused then told her to watch and then performed sex acts on her, resulting in her feeling pain again. He also cajoled her into performing a sex act on him.

The victim felt helpless to refuse as she feared his displeasure. After the act, the man told the victim to wash her hands and apologised.

ACCUSED ASKED VICTIM TO RECORD HIM AND HER MOTHER

On another occasion, the man sent a text message to the victim, asking her to record a video of himself and her mother engaging in sex.

"The victim agreed as she felt relieved that the accused was not going to engage in any sexual acts with her," Mr Ng said.

The accused sent her a 10-second long video of himself having sex with her mother and gave the victim instructions on how he wanted the act to be recorded.

That night, the girl did as she was told while hiding under her blanket.

In December 2022, the victim confided in her brother, who told her she had been right to refuse the accused's advances. Her brother wanted to tell their mother about the acts but the victim refused, fearing that her mother's feelings would be hurt.

Meanwhile, the man sent the victim more messages asking her for sex acts. She declined to, and the man apologised.

In January 2023, the brother and the victim revealed what she had been through to their mother.

After discussing the matter, the victim agreed to forgive the accused to avoid breaking the family apart. The man continued residing with them.

DISCOVERY OF OFFENCES

The victim's plight was discovered by a tuition teacher who noticed cuts on the victim's left forearm. The victim tried to pass off the cuts as cat scratches but the teacher took her to a social worker for help.

This was when the victim revealed her feelings of worthlessness and her thoughts about overdosing on medication.

This social worker then spoke to the victim's mother, who revealed what her husband had done to the victim. She said the victim had agreed to give the accused a second chance.

The victim was subsequently brought to be examined in a hospital and a police report was lodged.

Even after the accused was arrested on May 12, 2023, the victim expressed concern that the family would be torn apart by the matter.

According to the prosecution, the victim still lives with her mother and two brothers. Her mother is not currently facing any criminal prosecution.

SENTENCING ARGUMENTS

The prosecution sought 14 to 15 years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane for the accused, while the defence sought 12 to 13 years' jail.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kathy Chu said the accused had used the victim for his personal sexual gratification.

Ms Chu described his charge for engaging in sex in the victim's presence as "disturbing" as the man had "prematurely exposed the victim to information and knowledge she (was) not of age for".

What was "particularly perverse" was the sex act between himself and her mother, which showed that he did not care about the repercussions on her and her mother, said Ms Chu.

The accused's lawyer Teo Choo Kee said his client was "very repentant" and sorry for what he had done.

"To this date, he cannot understand what came over him to commit these acts which were clearly reprehensible," said Mr Teo, adding that his client sought forgiveness from those he had hurt.

In his brief oral remarks, Justice Aidan Xu @ Aedit Abdullah had harsh words for the accused, whom he addressed directly.

"You committed crimes against your stepdaughter which were heinous and depraved. You robbed her of her innocence when she was only 11 years old.

"She calls you papa and regarded you as her father (but you) violated her and made use of her to satisfy your lust."

The judge added that the harm and damage caused to the victim was clear in her reaction when the accused had asked her to record him and her mother.

"Rather than being repulsed (and disgusted), her reaction was that she was relieved that she was not going to be assaulted yet again. This is heartbreaking," Justice Xu said.

He called this offence "especially depraved behaviour", as the accused had not only exposed the victim to a sexual act, but one between her parents.

The judge expressed hope that the victim will recover and commended the tuition teacher and social worker for their vigilance, hoping that they and their colleagues will "continue to do their best".

"Sepang International Circuit’s (SIC) role (in these races) is to provide the facilities at the circuit.

"However, the ministry, through SIC, holds engagements with the organiser from time to time to improve the quality and content of the Grand Prix when held in Malaysia, taking into account religious and cultural sensitivities at the same time,” she said in a written reply to the Dewan Rakyat.

Yeoh emphasised that protecting the religious and cultural sensitivities of Malaysia’s multiracial community remains a priority for her ministry.

Fawwaz, who is also Penang PAS information chief, had asked whether the ministry planned to end the "tradition” of grid girls in motorsports events organised by the ministry or government-linked companies.

Yeoh noted that last year’s MotoGP Grand Prix in Sepang attracted 184,923 spectators, including more than 18,000 foreign tourists.

A study by SIC also found that the 2022 MotoGP contributed over RM150 million to the local economy, she said.

Around 3 million elderly people will be eligible to receive 10,000 baht from the second phase of the government's 10,000-baht cash handout scheme, according to Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul.

Mr Paopoom said the latest review revealed 3.04 million elderly people aged 60 and above qualified for the programme. However, of this number, it is estimated that around 20,000 individuals have since passed away.

Eligible individuals must verify their eligibility via the government's Tang Rat app, which will be available for checks commencing Wednesday. Those eligible for the scheme will receive the cash transfer starting from Jan 27.

The government's Digital Wallet project aims to stimulate the economy by distributing funds to all Thai citizens aged 16 and above, with conditions such as an annual income not exceeding 840,000 baht and combined bank deposit balances not exceeding 500,000 baht.

However, following objections from academics and the Bank of Thailand, the government decided to distribute the funds in phases.

The first phase targeted 14.5 million people holding state welfare and disability cards. The current phase, targeting the elderly, is the second phase.

The government hopes this distribution will inject money into the economy and improve the well-being of elderly people.

Meanwhile, deputy government spokeswoman Sasikarn Watthanachan said eligible receipients should verify their eligibility within the next two days.

Additionally, she emphasised that for individuals aged 60 and above who may face difficulties or lack expertise during the registration process, the government requests the assistance of family members to expedite the verification process and ensure the PromptPay account is linked to the eligible person's ID number by Jan 22.

This would enable the disbursement of funds on Jan 27.

"This project expands the target group from the 2024 stimulus initiative, which supported state welfare cardholders and people with a disability. The goal is to stimulate spending while alleviating the financial burden and creating more opportunities for vulnerable groups," said Ms Sasikarn.

"Senior citizens will be able to use the funds to purchase essential goods and services, thereby injecting money into the economy and stimulating it effectively and swiftly. Moreover, this project will enhance the overall well-being of senior citizens, improving their quality of life in multiple aspects," she added.

KUALA LUMPUR: The retail prices for RON97 petrol and diesel will go up by 5sen per litre from Jan 16-22.

The Finance Ministry, in an X post on Wednesday (Jan 15), said the retail price of RON97 petrol would increase 5sen from RM3.33 to RM3.38 per litre.

The price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will go up by 5sen from RM3.03 to RM3.08 per litre but remains at RM2.15 per litre in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

The price of RON95 petrol remains unchanged at RM2.05 per litre.

It said the prices were fixed based on the weekly retail prices of petroleum products, using the Automatic Pricing Mechanism formula.

"The government will continue to monitor the trends of global crude oil prices and take appropriate measures to ensure the continued welfare and well-being of the people," it added.
