Education Loans for Overseas Study

Hey all,

Anyone know of any banks that offer education loans?

Before you start with the whole 'its not worth it' trope - let me explain. I started working after pre-U, and I've saved up a sizeable sum of cash over the past few years to put towards my education - about 50% of my projected costs.

I don't plan on staying in my current line for the rest of my life, and I've been offered spots at several top unis - LSE, NUS, UCL. However, I don't intend to get a STEM/finance degree, and that has severely limited my scholarship/grant options - no banks/oil and gas/telecommunications companies.

I've been fortunate enough to receive some assistance from an international association that I worked with previously, but I estimate that I will need another RM75-100k, after my savings and the aforementioned aid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Advice on college :) SAM/AUSMAT.

I'm a 2012 SPM school leaver from one of the top schools in Kuala Lumpur. However, I know I didn't study hard enough for my SPM last year, and I doubt I'll reach my intended goal when I get my SPM results.

I was planning to take my SATs and head of straight to the United States to pursue my major. However despite a relatively decent score from my first SAT test (around 2000/2400), I've changed my mind, and I'm thinking about going for a pre-u course and focus more this time, get a few more recommendation letters, retake my SATs with a couple of subject tests, and get more study time before applying to the universities that I'm interested in.

I'm planning to study Economics or Philosophy/Ethics, Politics and Economics with a focus on International Affairs in the future for my degree.

I'm considering the Taylor's SAM program and the Sunway AUSMAT program. Would anyone care to weigh in on the pros and cons of each university (ie. the lecturers, resources available, environment) along with the scholarships/financial aid available as well as provide suggestions for other colleges/scholarships that may suit a student with a considerable co-curricular record?

Thanks in advance.
Why doesn't the government allow homeschooling?

I'm doing a research on a paper now about why homeschooling should not be allowed in Malaysia.

I'm not talking about centres that follow the homeschooling syllabus, but rather real homeschooling.

It is allowed/considered in certain cases:
1) The child is medically unfit and unable to cope with the standard curriculum pertaining to his/her age.
2) The child is extremely smart.
3) The family is constantly travelling abroad.
4) The curriculum used must be the National Curriculum in the main, with supplements if deemed necessary.

Thanks for your help.

Edit: Besides the parental issue, of not being qualified to teach, or busy to teach, do consider the fact that some parents also hire tutors to teach their children, or pool resources with other parents for a social environment (with/without external tutelage) for their children to homeschool.

{WTA} Concert

Hey guys

I'm organizing a benefit concert for homeless children sometime this November, probably on the 19th

It's going to be a rock concert, all styles, from classic rock (ala Cream/Kinks) all the way to modern (Muse, Coldplay) and with the gain cranked up even higher (Guns & Roses, Avenged Sevenfold, Dream Theater et. all)

Now I have a problem, which is with the budgeting.

Since this is a benefit concert and we don't really have much money, my friend suggested looking for sponsors.

We'd also like to know the average price of equipment rental, for lighting equipment specifically.

Also, does anyone know any places that would either sponsor a place for the night, or perhaps give a discount, as this is for charity. We're targeting between 200-400 people

Thanks a lot

Details on the audition can be found at the Events Section of the Musician's page.

Isaac.

EDIT:

Alright, we've found a few places, like Bandar Bukit Damansara, TTDI... places like that for below RM1000 ^^

Would a mall be a good place?

External Sound Card

'm a musician and recently I bought my own gear to start recording. However, I need to record stereo, and I'm not sure that and external sound card can let me do that.

I use several mics into a mixer, where I pan the music (stereo), then my outputs are RCA outputs (red and white), and I need to record stereo with an external sound card. Is it possible?

Please suggest some sound cards for me to buy too

Malaysian Radio

Well, these days 90% of music played on the radio has at least something SUPER synthesized into it, be it electronic loops, drum loops, synthe, and so on For example, artistes such as Gaga, Owl City, the countless rappers, all of them used mostly programmed tracks in their records, and I feel this leads to a really really fake sound environment.

What do you feel about this?

There are times when I turn on the radio and scroll through every channel looking for something.. Well... REAL.. Like actual musical instruments and (yes, I know almost everything is edited with ProTools these days etc), well, what I feel is REAL music.

What do you think?
